Fun fact: In 1992, David Robinson was the highest paid player at 5.7 million. Jordan brought in 4m (worth 7.5m today after inflation). Steph's salary for 2020-2021 is 43m (highest in league). Not sure if this counts for incentives though.

Deanz Beber it’s a pretty big deal if that did happen. Baseball banned Pete Rose for life over gambling because they have to be harsh to deter other players. I don’t think Rose even ever bet on the reds. Rose was a sure fire hall of famer and probably top 10 all time at the time but it didn’t matter.

@@nickslay23 It's boring and lonely at the top. The higher and higher you climb the more boring it becomes, because you're knocking people off. It is easier to see this if you work with kids. A lot of the kids that act out and are labeled as troublemakers are actually bored and belong in a gifted program.

Jordan was prone to a gambling problem. Think about it; Jordan is incredibly competitive and he probably took his competitiveness to the gambling tables.. You could be “good” at gambling but ultimately luck plays a big factor. So this is where his psychopathic tendencies kicked in and he got addicted to wanting to win at these games that ultimately required luck rather than skill.

The reason they investigated the “betting on games” thing because literally a few years earlier there was a huge baseball incident where Pete Rose was betting tons of money on baseball along with betting on himself on his own team. The reason this was so big was because Pete Rose was one of the greatest hitters of all time.

The Space Jam theory gets even weirder as you unpack the film's utility in rewriting Jordan's life in the public eye. When attempting escape from the Monstars, Jordan literally gambles his freedom-the alternative being a lifetime of slavery at Moron Mountain. The man *gambled his life away* but because it was for Bugs Bunny & Co. we looked upon Mike with a newfound sense of adoration, when in actuality, it was quite a tidy way of reframing the whole concept of Jordan as a risk taker, some amazing PR slight of hand. Regardless of how deep or shallow the conspiracy goes Jordan did have a likability issue at this point in his career, and Space Jam, released in 1996, helped obliterate it before delivering on subsequent titles ('97, '98) could.

I actually think he retired to get some rest. True he played baseball but had several months before going to camp. And then after he had several months before returning to the Bulls. If you watched him in the 92-93 season he looked tired. And of course he pushed himself to play harder again in the playoffs. Even though statistically he was great, he wasn't going to the basket as much and shooting more jumpshots. He could not jump as high as he used to. His knees were worn out.

This isn't even a discussion. Jordan got caught gambling and was going to have to be penalized for it. Then he left to play baseball. Jordan was gone from basketball for the amount of time that he would have been suspended from the NBA. The whole baseball thing was a way for him to take a suspension and still keep his Nike, Space Jam, Wheaties image. Jordan is a notorious gambler its common knowledge.

Lifelong Bulls fan, grew up in IL in the 90s, it was definitely mentioned to me that it was because of gambling and not even as a conspiracy. Have had that as an understanding this whole time. Was too young to remember it happening at the time, but yeah, didn't realize this was even a conspiracy.
