Oh shit.. I realized what this song is about. Ches in this work sings on behalf of his father. Since "and in the place where I lived, someone sings about how ..". And this "someone" is Ches. But since in answering questions he said that he did not know what happened to his father, he simply assumed that a bandit had killed him. Wow, that seems to make it clear. And yes .. How can I not note: what just has a GORGEOUS voice. I'm just in fucking shock. And it's so cute that Glam sings along (like it's Glam). Thank you!

Chesnok is my favorite character and I have an interpretation about this song that explains why. Chesnok isn't really...of this world. He is indifferent to his existence, and seemingly all people as well. His love, and where he longs to be, is what I call the "Otherworld", where music, art, and quiet internal experiences are. Passion and creativity and all that. Just like me. He has seemingly no genuine attachment to the women he chases, his guitar and his passions are the only thing that truly evoke longing in him. I have a theory that the only reason he was interested in talking to glam was either because he noticed he must be equally as passionate about music as he was (and therefore thought he would be a worthwhile friend,) or because he had a sweet looking instrument that he wanted to steal. He seems like he always puts on this carefree attitude because it's the best way to fit into any situation without having to express his true thoughts and intentions. However, even though he acts like a carefree thoughtless bum, I don't think he is actually like that in the least. I think on the inside he is clearly extremely intelligent and I assume very depressed, I just don't think he sees other people as equals enough to confide in them. Not that he dislikes people or is sociopathic, i think he is just very detached from others and is more immersed in his beautiful, lonely internal world. In the story of the song, the singer makes hardly any mention of his wife and children as if they are just background motions of the world turning, a world he isn't really immersed in. The tree symbolizes his internal world and his passions, the thing he REALLY feels a bond with. The songs story even connects back to reality directly by implying the real person singing it (Chesnok) is now bonded in the same way to a different version of the tree, the guitar. I think that's an especially telling thing about the song, that even though Chesnok wrote it and it's clearly very telling of his thoughts and emotions, he still disguises it by throwing in that ending where it's not actually about him, he's "just some guy who wrote a song about a pine tree he cut down."
