I think why people like Frank so much is not just how brilliantly clever he was, but how he didn't do any of his crimes maliciously but only to better his own life so that he could be happy and not have to worry about finances. He pulled off crazy crimes and didn't hurt anyone in the process.

Pulled this from an article in the Louisiana Voice: “I found him creepy and offensive but my parents fell in love with his B.S. stories and invited him back. Several weeks later, he reappeared and they invited him to stay as their guest. While he was there, he stole cash from my brother who was working as a bag boy at a grocery store and he stole checks from my parents and forged them and cashed them.”

This video is not accurate, it recounts Abagnale's fake story not the actual facts of his life. Buzzfeed apparently did no research--not even bothering to look at the Wikipedia page for Abagnale, which is far more accurate. Abagnale never impersonated a doctor at a hospital supervising residents, he never passed the bar exam or posed as a prosecutor. Most of the time he claims he was doing these impersonations, he was in jail. He claims he never defrauded individuals or small businesses, but he absolutely did.

This guy is a fraud, buzzfeed did no actual research on this guy. He cashed only $1400 in fake cheques, of which he stole from a small family. He stole cars and was in jail throughly his teenage years, so couldn’t have impersonated all the people he said he did. He didn’t pass the bar exam and there’s no evidence of him ever working for the FBI.

Wow! This is super interesting and I love hearing the facts behind the fiction! The only thing I wanted to "add" is that there is an AMAZING musical theatre production based off the movie, which my school performed last year and I was lucky enough to be in ensemble. the plot did actually include some facts left out in the movie (like posing as a lawyer, fiancee telling the fbi where he was, getting arrested at the Montreal airport, etc.) but was like the movie in the wayof alot of fiction. BUT the music is GREAT and i personally loved working with it because it was classic 1960 jazz and theatre mix, and while it was sorta playing on the sexist kinda "sexy stewardess" and "seductive nurses" it was an incredible musical that hardly anyone has ever heard of. even if it was just a overdramatised tale based on a true story, it had some very emotional scenes and is very well done! everyone should see!!!! thank you!!!
