Tried a few new techniques for this one so I hope you all like it! I talked about this on Twitter for a bit, but I've been dedicating a ton of time behind the scenes to learn 3D scene construction in hopes that it'll allow me to really open my topic range up for 2021 and onward. Daily, I pass up on tons of incredibly interesting cases that I'd love to cover, but have never really had a way to "show" anything. I apologize for this video being shorter than the norm - that's partly chalked up to the fact that I needed to test the waters to see if I could actually pull this stuff off. It took some work, but I'm thrilled that I was able to. With that being said, I'm already at work on the next one and while it'll be something you've probably heard of, I'm going to pull out all the stops and make the presentation wholly refreshing and unique. It's an incident that I've had on my whiteboard for like a year, and I've decided it's finally time. Run time will be more or less 35 minutes or so. ANYWAY, hope you enjoy. If you hate it then lemme know what I can do better and I'll take it into account moving forward. πŸ–€

This was the way of North American air travel until September 10, 2001. I think only Israel had super strict airport security back then. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, I don't remember ever hearing about an domestic American hijacking during that time, only international ones. In the states hijackings died out in the 70s, and even back then it was some guy that wanted a brief case full of money.

It’s genuinely disturbing to me how many cases like this there are. Someone tells their loved ones they don’t feel safe, they think they’re in danger, etc. The person then vanishes and is seen behaving strangely by strangers and witnesses. The person is seen acting frantic and like they’re in hurry. Then they vanish without a trace, never to be seen again. Creepy as hell.

I wouldn't be surprised if people are "taken care of" this way. Threaten someone then send them on a wild goose chase to make their actions appear erratic and unpredictable. Then they have an accident and are never seen again. It may have also been some kind of manic episode but the fact that he went to such great lengths to conceal his movements makes me think he was aware of his actions.

@Toothpaste Well, yeah considering the sheer size of the USA it's no wonder some people may turn up missing never to be found again (*cough* successful murder or kidnapping *cough*). In the urban areas you would definitely have a harder time commiting a crime like murder and getting away with it due the amount of population density, but say let's go to a small town in the middle of nowhere surrounded by wasteland or forest - perfect hiding place if you know what your doing.

I wonder how many cases like this can just be explained by some form of psychosis. Not that it’s necessarily the case here, but it may be and it’s so incredible to me(someone who’s experienced psychosis) how bizarrely it can make you behave. Walking down the side of the highway in military clothing is nothing compared to some of the delusions that can arise from a schizophrenic episode or mania etc etc

To me the most compelling thing to point to him having gone crazy was the whole β€œI’m going to tell the truth no matter who it hurts” thing. I have worked in Inpatient psychiatry, and we would see cases similar to this (with no deaths) on a weekly basis - a previously β€œnormal” person starts acting oddly, often makes bizarre and vague plans to flee, alludes to someone being after them but won’t contact police or provide any details, etc. Our brains have a β€œpeople are after me” center, and this can go wrong from anything to drugs (MJ), to liver failure (and gone when addressed) to most often, nothing medicine can currently pinpoint. And people with this often have a mix of typical, and very atypical, behaviors seeming β€œnormal” for a few minutes, then saying/doing something very atypical or unusual. It is one of the last taboos subjects I medicine (with the person/families often not telling others about) and more common than most hunk, often shocking the family when the previously reliable person changes. I certainly don’t know if this occurred in this case, but it is consistent with the usual pattern. People can flee actual threats or have reasons not to say why, but there is a method behind the plans, even if trying to hide their tracks, and they are still organized in seeing them through, whereas people with a paranoid episode are repeatedly disorganized (losing the money they brought, jumping out of cabs/then demanding to get back in, then jumping out again, renting a car, then losing the key, checking into a hotel then randomly wandering until some passerby helps them find their room, then suddenly running off etc.). It is a true emergency as they often have adult resources but are very impaired in their thinking, and can easily put themselves in harms way.

Prior military here, was stationed in JBLM for a good while. I've been to Yakima more times than the fingers and toes I still have. Yakima has an army training center right up next to it and it was opened in 1989. There's always plenty of homeless and surplus stores near every base, even training centers. In fact if you walk by any military base you'd see a lot of homeless hanging around in military gear; from your typical ACU to PT uniforms. Workboots might have been mistaken for military boots, though I have no idea what kind of gear was issued back then. Just a guess but maybe he got his military garb by asking the surplus stores near by or someone gave it to him thinking he was homeless.

That's one of the questions I have when I saw this video. It only took a quick Google search to find the base in Yakima, WA. That leaves me with several questions: Did David Lewis have military history prior to his disappearance? When did he get ahold of his gear, and how did he get ahold of it? Is it military-like, or were his clothes, in fact, military issued clothing? If it was military-issued he'd have to get it directly from the branch or from someone directly affiliated with a branch of the armed forces to obtain the uniform. I think, for more information this case, you'd need to look into the Yakima base, and that's no easy feat. Was someone (either under another name, a similar name, or the same name) suppose to show up around the time of Lewis's death and never did? Were they starting a new or specialized training session near the day of David Lewis's death in 1993? I bet investigators could figure out more if they got a good look at his glasses. According to my brother (US Marines), the military issue a separate pair of glasses to members that need to wear them, so it probably looks different from a pair he'd wear casually. I think Nexpo could really do a follow up video on this one. There's a lot to work with here.

Without documents, phone and any proper clothes ( End of November, smth about +4C). Police found her body in a nearby village after bout 4 month of search. Yeah, this kind of disorientation can happen to old people. My grandmother was living alone in the countryside and was very independent until the age of 85, but then one night she just walked out of her house and started walking along the road that leads to the next village (~5 km away) in the middle of winter. There was thick snow on the ground and minus C degrees outside), but she didn't put on any thick clothes and wore only slippers. Thankfully she didn't wander into the forest alone and a passing police car found her still alive and walking. But after that she couldn't be left alone anymore and had to live in a care home. Each winter there are several cases with old people wandering alone outside, getting lost and freezing to death. It's a really sad way to go.

I'd think just the opposite actually. Lewis likely left it to alter his appearance ever so slightly. If he didn't have his glasses on his face and just among his person when he was killed in the hit and run, it's entirely possible he used those minimally for the sake of changing his looks. If that's the case, it's always likely he left behind his wedding ring for the exact same purpose. This topic was covered on reddit around a year ago. I’ll copy paste my findings from there. Late to the post and this might be burried, but it's worth a mention. In 1993 there were no direct flights from L.A. to Amarillo, or vice versa. If you wanted to get there, you had to take a flight from Dallas to get there. The kicker here and the thing that sticks out to me for some odd reason is the tape recorder recording the Superbowl. The Superbowl of 1993 took place in Pasadena, California. In 1993 you got there by flying into the L.A. airport. It's important, however, to note that the flights are coming from the location of the Superbowl to the spot he was officially last seen. Isn't it odd that the weekend that the Superbowl happened, his wife and daughter just happened to leave? It might be anecdotal, but I don't think it is. He could have pushed for that to happen, or he could have seen this as an opportunity. It is mentioned he was going expose something involving a case of conflict of interest between his old law firm and a very wealthy client. Who often attends big events like Superbowls and fly out the same night or the day after? The super-wealthy. Could it be possible that a meeting was arranged between the wealthy client and him for the very next week? He was deposited $5,000 dollars the day he bought the first ticket. I think it's very likely that he was flying someone to him, not vice versa. His car was found at the county records building, which further leads to some meeting of judicial nature. He never returned to his car evidently, yet he's found dead 1600 miles away stumbling down a highway with a Camaro speeding away. Now who could easily afford a Camaro in 1993, the year Gen-4 of Camaro was released, not exactly a luxury car, but a car that a very wealthy person might mistake as "clandestine." It might be helpful to find out what kind of tickets were bought, ie: first class? Other useful information to support this theory would to check for any private departures leaving the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (built in 1942) that weekend. Plane travel is the only viable explanation for 1600 miles of travel in a short time period. Some people suspect suicide or an "accidental hit and run", but I think foul play should still be on the table for a case like this. There are too many indicators. TL;DR: I think he was killed by the very wealthy man discussed earlier. The law firm is a primary suspect as well.

This is all relevant info. And the $5k in his account is not that much for a lawyer worth his or her salt. An average retainer for a non-partner attorney in any major city in the early to mid 1990s could be $2500 or $300 per hour. Beyond that, it seems quite odd that he would be taking pictures of his own vehicle.

I'm not convinced the hit-and-run is a big deal. It was a dark night in a very rural and remote location, on an unlit road with no pavement. It is perfectly possible that the hit-and-run was a genuine accident and the driver just sped off in a panic when the other car arrived. Perhaps the Camaro driver was DUI? But that doesn't answer the question of why this Texas lawyer was walking along a Washington highway at 10:30pm wearing camouflage attire. What was he doing and where was he going? If he was in the state under an assumed name you'd think he might have just booked a sketchy motel room somewhere, why be out at that time of night?
