Over time, J K Rowling has revealed more details about the Harry Potter character wands and what they mean. The wand chooses the wizard in the wizarding world, as Harry learns firsthand in The Sorcerer's Stone when he goes to visit Ollivander's wand shop in Diagon Alley. Wands are indispensable objects, used for everything from combat to household chores. Students learn how to wield these tools with finesse during their time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, though some show more outright skill than others, leading to a few explosive moments, courtesy of one Seamus Finnegan.
Wand woods and cores in Harry Potter also carry their own distinctive meanings, as does length and flexibility. The Harry Potter character wands are chosen with the person's traits in mind, and the connection is repeatedly referenced in the series, especially when Ollivander is identifying wands. There are three main types of wand cores that Ollivander uses, and more than 30 types of wand woods are found in the Harry Potter universe, and while each aspect means something about the characters, not every detail is known about each wand.
Newt Scamander is the main character in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, although Dumbledore got a lot more screen time in the later movies. What makes Newt's wand different is that it ties into his love for the magical creatures of the Harry Potter world. According to the book, The Case of Beasts: Explore the Film Wizardry of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, head prop maker Pierre Bohana said Newt Scamander's wand traces back to an animal component and its design shows his love for both animals and the environment.
The handle of Newt's wand is made of shell, but it is similar to a sandworm shell in feel and has a pearling effect. The tip of his wand is a piece of ash that is worn down. With Newt taking upon himself the responsibility of protecting the great beasts, having a wand based out of that world, while also remaining easy to use, made perfect sense for his character.
Queenie Goldstein had her own wand, but it was an unknown length, with no word on the fictional wood or core material of the Harry Potter character wands. Queenie's wand first appeared in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and it was made to reflect Queenie's personality. Wand designer Molly Sole said the design was Art Deco-inspired and was supposed to be a "sexy" wand (via Wizarding World). The wand had a shell design similar to a piece of mother pearl while the wand itself was made out of dark rosewood.
There is also the chance that Queenie's wand was a Jonker wand, which means it would have Wampus cat hair at the core
