such a twisted genius. Very relatable to people in recovery or struggle with drug use. These things he speak of are very real, the fear of being alone. Not trusting yourself and not feeling worthy of being labeled "good". Not feeling comfortable with your growth and missing the days when you were careless because accountability is tough and brings a lot of emotions. Some we try to run away from.

The plot of After Hours: In Alone Again, he was struggling to draw the line between being in a relationship and living the nightlife. Too Late talks about how he can't be saved from himself. Hardest To Love and Scared To Live, he reminisces on hurting this lover so many times that she's hesitant to love anyone else. She ultimately leaves him, and he's kind of reflecting on that. Escape LA and Snowchild, he's reflecting on material things and women, but they all feel the same now. In Faith he parties so hard he OD's. Heartless and Blinding Lights, he's embracing the nightlife, and at the end of the songs he harkens back to a specific lover for comfort. In Your Eyes, The Weeknd suspects his lover of seeing someone else. In Save Your Tears, he tries to go back to this lover again, but this time she won't accept him. In Repeat After Me, it's confirmed that his lover finds someone else. The Weeknd is put off by this, and suggests that she doesn't love the new guy, and doing this to spite him. In After Hours, he misses this lover and the only way he can get close to his lover again is in his dreams. And the only way he can forget, is by getting high. But now, the high isn't working (after the OD scare, he realized the high he wants is unobtainable). And he's feeling lonely in those crowded rooms with all of those women that look the same. In Until I Bleed Out, he's sick of getting high, and he's sick of thinking about this lover, and the only way to stop it is by cutting himself, and bleeding out (killing himself). Final Lullaby was coming to terms with dying, and putting himself and his fantasies about his lover to sleep.

I'm a person who is wholly traumatized by drugs, I don't like talking about them, or hearing about them, and even though Euphoria is an amazing show I can't get through 10 minutes without crying. I grew up with two heavy drug addicts, got promised a lot of things, and now I don't know where either of them are, or if they're alive. I know it may sound lame, but for some reason, this song connects me to my parents, makes me feel like I understood why they did the things they did. It's been my own little slice of peace and closure after many years.

Correct me if I'm wrong.....there isn"t a single bad song on this album , either complete bops or bangers.

This song really summarizes the whole album. "Thought I'd be a better man but I lied to me and to you" expresses so much frustration and self-loathing, he hates himself for hurting those he cares about with his bad habits. "But if I OD, I want you to OD right behind me" is admitting a darker part of him that wants to hold onto her (let's call her...Ella) even though he knows it's selfish and will only hurt them both. Even the beat of the song matches an increasing feeling of intensity, like it's losing control, until it peaks and leaves you feeling empty and disoriented. He keeps chasing that high, and he knows it's going to kill him one day, but it's so hard for him to stop.

And you feel and notice all the details and beauty of the world around you while being on the edge of your mind. And you scream, you cry, you laugh... Thank you, Abel.

I've been a Weeknd fan since 2014, I've always loved every single song of him and I remember every album release since they've all been amazing experiences for me. My personal favourite album is "Kissland" and nothing will ever top that, however "After Hours" had an impact on my life which simply cannot be described. I will always remember that night of 20th March 2020, it was my 20th birthday, I was completely new in a foreign country where I moved to in order to study, my classes indeed had been going on for one week already (everything online - not exactly what I expected), the Corona pandemic had been declared that day only and suddenly I found myself locked in my room, away from my family and with no friends, and so scared of the future. Being such a big The Weeknd fan I stayed up all night waiting for the album to be released on Spotify and UKposts and listening to it that particular night was a surreal experience for me. And especially the outro of this song completely devastated me. The amount of emotions which made me feel made me burst into tears and I wasn't able to listen to any further song till the next morning. That particular one and a half minute was my transition from my teenage years to adulthood and it brought all the hopes, fears, emotions and will to live. Right now, after 3 years I still come back here from time to time when I feel demotivated and I remember that I need to keep on going whatever it happens. Thank you for having such a big impact in my life, Abel, you are and always be my favourite artist ❤️
