You beat me to it...this trend reminds me way too much of the circular multi-use stadiums built in the 70s.
@91_C4_FL12 днів тому
They were state of the art then too. It was peak design during their time, but the needs of teams and the fans changed. Just how it goes, and it'll happen again.
@scotttild12 днів тому
I was thinking the same thing. Phil, Cin and some of the others were all generally the same. At least MLB has gotten away from that trend.
@crveech12 днів тому
I thought the exact same thing. Also, the indoor stadiums with the inflatable roofs.
@bushgreen26012 днів тому
*Why do all new stadiums have roofs? They are turning all stadiums into indoor arenas. Into halls. Football is an outdoor sport and stadiums are supposed to be outdoor arenas. When you play football you want to be playing outside in the fresh air not indoors in a hall. You need the air and oxygen to feel lively. It also keeps you cool.* *I dislike roofs on stadiums. They are doing the same thing to soccer stadiums in Europe. They are turning iconic soccer stadiums into indoor arenas.* *It doesn't feel the same anymore with roofs. When the crowd chants, it feels like they are indoors and in a hall, because they actually are. It doesn't feel like football or soccer anymore. It ruins it.* *At least the roofs are transparent in the USA, so it lets in natural light. In the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, Spain. The roof is not transparent. It blocks all the natural light. They have ruined that stadium. It was my favourite stadium.* *at least make the roofs retractable to let in fresh air so you can still play with the roof open.*
@natevart415612 днів тому
Yup it’s stupid and it’s one of the only things that baseball has over other sports, iconic ballparks and the only teams that have roofs actually needs them because it’s eaither to hot or too cold there for a majority of the season
@lucasjames518712 днів тому
Because they also want to have the stadium and the city to be able to host a NCAA college basketball final 4, big rodeos, biger concerts without worrying about whether delay and a Super Bowl. And basically the only way a city can host a Super Bowl that doesn't have nice weather to play outdoors like California and Florida is unless they do have a indoor stadium. Remember they're making these stadiums multi-use all year round besides just football.

I still can not wrap my head around the idea of the Chicago bears playing their home games at a dome stadium on artificial turf. For certain teams I feel like playing in the outdoors and in the elements is in their DNA. The Chicago bears are one of those teams that should always be playing home games outdoors...
@HoshizakiYoshimasa12 днів тому
It's American Football. They don't give a damn about history. It's always about greed and money. The NFL is the most slimeball sport organization in the world after FIFA and the Olympics. All that matters is money. Not history. Not the fans. Not even the pieces of metal they give to owners at the end of the Super Bowl. Pro sports is a BUSINESS.

All they do is renovate and keep up with maintenance!!! All a stadium needs is a good playing field lots of bathrooms good food facilities good parking lot and tailgating area and nice lockerooms and scoreboard and nice lighting and landscaping in a good area of town!!! Damn is that hard to do!!! No !!! If you build in the 21st century even Met life stadium damn just remodel every 10 years it already has all the technology built in!!! There is more important things that need to be done in our cites like transportation crime healthcare education and raising minimum wage to at least $20 an hour nationwide a football stadium not that important!!! Just keep what you have modern upkeep ! If college's wanted to build a football stadium every 10 years they would run the college presidents out in the streets looking for a new job!!! There is nothing wrong with most NFL stadiums even Washington Commanders just renovate them like you would your own kitchen or bathroom!!! @joshuaramirez612111 днів тому
can you not put backround music? It's way too distracting and loud
@maxkeebs442512 днів тому
One thing I worry about that could be an unintentional consequence... IF the vast majority of NFL teams have indoor stadiums, wouldn't that potentially lead to the vast majority of future Super Bowl winning teams being from mostly outdoors? Historically, almost all of the good NFL teams have been from inclement weather areas. Weather has been a factor, particularly if they're cold weather teams, in having a home-field advantage in the playoffs. We could have a future w/ most of these stadiums being indoors, but Green Bay, Buffalo, Kansas City (if they're still outdoors), Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, potentially Seattle, and a good number of the warm weather teams that still play outdoors or in a canopy stadium, winning all of the Super Bowls.
@HoshizakiYoshimasa12 днів тому
NFL is probably fixed anyway with it's inconsistent rules and arbitrary referring where one play can influence an entire game outcome. So who cares? The majority of the globe doesn't.

Football is supposed to be played outdoors in the elements. Cleveland, Chicago, Tennessee, all moving indoors. Tarrable
@maxkeebs442512 днів тому
Now, all of those might not happen. Chicago wanted a dome stadium for both the Bears and the White Sox in the 80s and instead ended up with Guaranteed Rate Field and Post-2002 Soldier Field. Whole idea is making money and hosting year round events. I could see the logic in it. Stadiums are already super expensive, even w/o a dome. Best to build a year-round venue so that it has the ability to host all kinds of events, regardless of the weather. That'll help make money back and generate revenue. Especially if their is some type of public assistance to building the stadium.
@Mrcharles.9 днів тому
Why should we as taxpayers pay for a multipurpose stadium when these owners make millions of dollars? Seems to me like they should put down 100% of the cost.
@maxkeebs44259 днів тому
@@Mrcharles. Because it's a public private partnership. The owners aren't your parents giving you a Christmas present. They're making something that will be used by the entire region for things that won't have anything to do with the NFL (concerts, political conventions, etc.). I understand it's super expensive, but this is something big league cities do. As long as it's not extremely onerous on the taxpayers, I'm like why not? Mentality of telling them they should pay for it themselves is going to send the Bears across stateliness into Northern Indiana, where the statehouse would be happy to have them.

Meanwhile Chicago is literally allegiant 2.0. with more suites making the second seating bowl smaller but that's the only change pretty much and on the outside they copied the Titans by adding a useless balcony. As long as the exterior stands out, then that's all you can really expect.
@maxkeebs442512 днів тому
I think you can reflect the team more in the interior. Atlanta did a great job of this in their stadium (one of the end zone seating areas looks like the wing of a falcon). The problem is manica, they designed all three of these stadiums and they are just too lazy to think outside of the box on the inside and then they just copy unique features like Nashville's bar/balcony that fits the city of Nashville with all the rooftop bars( that they specifically asked for so it can be the stadium of Nashville), like why the hell does bears stadium have the same damn thing on the sides. Nashville has it for a reason, bears just have it. It's all manica's fault. Like HKS designed sofi, us bank, Lucas oil and at@t stadium other than all 4 being domes they all look nothing alike and all are unique. I hope manica doesn't get picked anymore in the future.

I'm not sure why their interiors are similar. My guess is that Manica think this works the best for ingress/egress and viewing. While HKS is great, I personally am partial to HOK and Populous. Populous is doing the new Bills stadium (also did State Farm Stadium). HOK is doing the Jags and they did Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Populous does a great job of building a nice looking facility that feels both practical to its market, fits its market, and making a stadium that's primary function is sports. HOK is able to build stadiums that are both beautiful and unique, like HKS, but also like practical to the city's metro area, like Populous. HOK's stadium interiors also usually have some type of diversity compared to the other firms.

@@maxkeebs4425 I loved what hok did in Atlanta especially considering it was their first ultra modern stadium they did. They have some nice designs. Yea I don't know what manica are thinking but it starts to look basic. They can at least change the roof design to be different

@@Donster2 Manica also designed the Chargers desired downtown stadium when they were in San Diego. It wasn't built, obviously, but if you look at the design, it looks very similar to these other stadiums, too. The only thing that is different is it was outdoors with a retractable roof.
