Thanks so much. Just a thought - for this kind of tutorial it's super helpful to see each feature demonstrated in a strong case - as in, "Here's an example of why you'd want to use this feature." You did that with the camera mask for instance. The more "strong case" demonstrations you do, the more we realize why the author put the functionality in the product in the first cast. There are a number of times you do that. Granted - that takes a lot more research to do that with every feature. This was still a great tutorial. Your work is very helpful and thoughtful and you deserve a lot of credit for helping us all!

Excelent starter tutorial and exactly what I needed having purchased scatter on the black Friday deal! Very intrested in how to make user created biomes. Also how the height maps work. Thanks for the tutorial.

Hello, scatter creator here, Please be careful about creating your own biomes, the next version, Scatter5, will migrate toward the new blender geometry node, and I don't guarantee that custom user biomes will be convertible. "With the new Hair type and everything node, Blender particle system will drastically change at end of 2021, and so will Scatter. All officially supported biomes will be for sure converted by myself but it is unsure if all the scattering presets can be transferred from the old particle system to the new one. so i'd advise waiting before creating a gigantic custom library of biomes as we don't know yet if they will be compatible with the future Scatter5, a newer version that will support the new geometry node system."

Hello there ! I see this addon is made for both cycles and eevee. But is there an option to tick in the addon pannel to enable the eevee renderer to adjust the shaders ? Since for me, rendering a pic with eevee and this addon is kind of flat.. Thanks in advance for your answer !! (And great presentation, by the way :D)

Good summary overview. I hope you eventually go into it deeper. I'd also be curious of your opinion of other grass and scatter addons compared to Scatter such as Blender's native Scatter Objects, Graswald, True Grass, Real Grass, Real Trees, Grass Essentials, etc. Not all at once of course, but using Scatter as kind of a base line, how do other addon's rate. I'm sure there are likely some capabilities that Scatter doesn't have that might be worth the price of complementary capabilities. Tutorials on using Scatter's ability to use constraints to place objects such as limiting trees above a certain height on mountains, making custom presets, changing the time of year by increasing dead grasses, and lots more to effectively using all of the features in combination. Good job.

I am planning on covering some more topics in depth - I'm particularly enjoying all the mask functions. I wanted to try Graswald but it's a pretty big file and I have really slow internet, so I skipped it for now. Thanks!

Can you do a tutorial on creating a lawn and a garden path. I have just got botaniq and some of the grass goes over edge boundary of my grass onto my path. :(

Awesome. I saw that Scatter has an option to place something in an EXACT position. I'm not sure how to do this. This would be good for a scene with a few trees that are prominent, while other trees are background.

Well if it's just a few trees, I'd just place those manually without using Scatter at all

After painting masks, you can also exit by scrolling top the very top of the Scatter panel and click Return to Object Mode.

Currently still SketchUp - it's easier to make precise models with its tools. Blender has some interesting add-ons being developed though

I wonder that, if after combing, if you apply the translation using one of the "Ctrl + A" commands, if the other attributes would work again instead of being messed up. If so, that would be a good change for the plugin, to popup a choice to apply the changes after combing, tho I guess that would be annoying for each comb. maybe it's a usage scenario. like after combing, don't forget to apply (if that indeed fixes issue in first place).

I doubt it - I don't think applying the location is what's driving this. I'm not sure if it breaks the link to the system overall, or if you could maybe re-run the system and get back the original locations - not sure

(solved) Any idea how to pick the center of the random rotation? All my elements rotate around the center of the model instead of their individual axis. EDIT: the problem was that i scattered a cube that was pushed away from the center of the model, this also results in cubes landing outside the plane

Incredibly bad take. Developers that improve a software with add-ons deserve to be compensated for their work if they want to be. Go do it manually with particles if you don’t like it.

I think you have to update the camera mask to see the changes you were trying at the end. At least it doesn't break the ability to edit the scatter.

Directly from the documentation - "Note that those grooming tools are destructive, you will break the procedural particle seeding workflow using any of these tools, so you may want to use them only for final adjustments." Is it working for you after you use the comb tool?
