They weren't allowed to. First off, America wouldn't report it, then pressured the Allies into not reporting it. Germany were on the backfoot at that time, so they also kept it a secret. Keep in mind, this disease affected the young people the most, because their bodies didn't know how to react to such disease, and so the immune systems overreacted, which is how the patients died. Today, we are so exposed to the disease through the open air and vaccines that there is no reason to believe that the bodies of our young people wouldn't be able to handle such disease.

seeing this in January 2022. It seems that many people (at least here in Australia) have lost the plot with covid after the lockdowns. We have staff shortages in many industries as more people end up in hospital with Omicron and supermarkets low on even basic stock, we're basically in an induced lockdown with how many people are getting it. A lot of people think its a joke now as testing facilities are hugely overwhelmed (many close hours before midday with waiting times as high as 7 hours) and even some tests of different types indicating false results. it just feels like such a mess now

We also have vaccines in development, which were impossible for labs to make in 1918. The COVID-19 pandemic is similar to the Spanish flu pandemic, but thereβs a lot more we can do, than we could in 1918!!!
