Some facts about 8 Mile - was the number 1 movie in the box office upon release, nominated for 32 awards, won an academy award and a Grammy, soundtrack went quadruple platinum and was also number 1 upon debut, selling 700k copies first week. Lose yourself was number 1 for 12 weeks and was Eminem's first number 1 single, and was the first hip hop song to win an academy award. It was one of only three rap songs from the 21st century to be included on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, being the highest ranked at number 166 and is certified diamond. There's literally like hundreds of essays written about Lose Yourself. It was #1 23 weeks straight which was the record and might still be the record for a rap song. First rap song nominated for song of the year at the Grammys. Got nominated for a golden globe. List goes on and on but what happened with 8 Mile in general is rare as fuck. A superstar musician starring in the number 3 highest grossing movie of the year and producing a quad platinum album with one of the greatest pieces of music in your genre in the movie.

I was like ‘About me or the character?’. He’s like ‘no, no just some character stuff’. I’m like yeah no problem. So before the entire 8 Mile final battle, he googles me and learns about me and all that stuff he basically makes fun of me as Papa Doc. [Laughs] And then I’m like ‘That’s a little personal Mr. Marshall… I grew up in a nice house, my parents were nice to me, why are you making fun of me [Everyone laughs]. He literally walked over and said this gonna be dope.” When it came time to film the final rap fight, Mackie understood Eminem meant to disgrace him on stage by using true material from his life. “So he goes, and his entire battle, the final rap, he Googles me and learns about me and all this stuff,” Mackie said. “And he basically makes fun of me, as Papa Doc. I heard awhile back that Eminem researched Anthony Mackie's real upbringing and used that information for the final battle in the movie. 🥶

Those beats they battling on is hip hop classics produced by legendary DJ Premier of Gangstarr, the second is produced by Fredro Starr of Onyx, & the third is produced by Havoc of Mobb Deep...

I love watching you guys. I guarantee you Eminem has watched you all. He is the GOAT. No question. He didn't have to act because he lived it. Props to you all for keeping up with Marshall.

I remember first seeing this movie....my Friend at work seen it a little while earlier... he asked me what I thought of it... I told him that it was freakin AMAZING! I told him we should go across the boarder to Detroit and go watch some of these rap battles on the weekend... My friend said... are you crazy! We'd be the ONLY while guys there! You wanna die! ? I'm like....we're not gonna die, we just wanna watch. Common.. lets go. He didn't want to. I love all types of music and having 2 guys who are great rappers would be awesome to watch! You might see someone rap before they become famous!!

I remember the first time i heard My name is on the radio i was hooked. it was serious and funny at the same time and Em sounded like nothing else out there. Pure natural talent, Dre took that mound of clay and molded a rap god

He was sick a period, you can see in the cut battles. But the black eye was cause he got jumped by them boys. Em didn't wrote for them as stated above me.Busta and Craig G wrote(for those who weren't battle rappers).Papa Doc had no idea what Em was gonna say.The cut battles actually have Marv Won,one of the best battle rappers and when he sais this story,he said Em was really freestyling and upset that he was sick, and wanted to redo the battle w him😃

Remember Phifer was playing Em's best friend and D12 rapper Proof, who was murdered back in 2006. He was also in the movie a few times.

One of my best mates when we were much younger, agreed to consume about a half litre of bourbon if one of our other mates sunk a shot they were going for in a game of pool. The other friend miraculously sunk the shot and he consumed that half litre in about 10 seconds. We tried to object but our concerns were futile. A few minutes after he'd done what he'd done, several of us carried him to bed. I made the point of turning him well onto his side with his knee stabilising him in the position which he'd been laid. At about 8am I woke up and immediately thought of him and walked three flights of stairs up to his room to find that he HAD, in fact, throw up everything he'd had in his stomach while he was sleeping. I was able to wake him. This story still makes me think about the importance of what these guys say early on. Look out for your mates. X
