@@DeanMk1 No problem! Obviously it's almost 40 years ago now, so it's hard to remember, but the parent of a classmate worked in the music business, and that's how we got involved. Our teacher played us the song and told us they wanted to animate the video using drawings, so we all did drawings based on the song lyrics. We were all 10 to 11 years old at the time. I remember we had a lot of fun doing it, and it was quite an exciting little project. We were all in our final year at primary school, so by the time the song and video were actually released, we'd all left and gone to different secondary schools.

That's one of my favorite parts of the video!

This song was meant as a response to living in grim times. There was a lot of unashamed vigor because that’s what is at our core. The threat of nuclear annihilation makes you despair or decide to sing and dance while you can. As for the remark about being afraid of the Russians, I think Sting was worried about anyone with the bomb. Surely “I hope the Russians love their children too” is answered with “well, yes...of course they do...” That means that despite love for our children we are insanely pursuing policies that might one day blow them up. That’s the point of Russians.
