The thing is, you can “medicate” yourself with anything. Some people over eat, some people zone out with movies, video games, oversleep just to avoid the pain of life. Whatever you are struggling with whether it be an activity, drugs, or alcohol... just know, you can get through this!

I had to stop everything I was doing...I'm sitting down right now with tears in my eyes because of how inspirational all of your comments are. On June 30th I'm coming up on one year clean from just about any and everything but mainly abandoning my children. I'm proud to say that I have all of them with me in our own home and I'm getting ready for work...well was before I read these beautiful comments. My sobriety and my family is my world and I'm so happy for all of you who have also found a way out.

Freakin love this song. Can definitely relate. Today marks 117 days sober for me. Had a bad problem for a little over a year with fentanyl. I’m lucky I was able to get myself into a 30 day treatment center when I did. Lord only knows if I’d still be here if I hadn’t gotten help when I did. I’ve struggled with drugs most of my teenage life. Started smoking weed around 12 to 13 years old e everyday, and then turned into doing my parents pain killers then started doing meth also used Xanax for a long time, pretty much did every drug you can think of and then the latest was the fentanyl. I’m just thankful to be off of everything now and to be living life on life’s terms instead of worrying about where my next high was going to come from. To anybody still struggling there is hope. You can do it!!!

I really love this song, and I remember the first time I ever heard it. We (my hubby, our son, and our son's fiancee) were driving back to our hometown for some kind of family thing and the song came on the radio. I didn't start catching the lyrics until halfway through the song and it was like a ton of bricks. This song is, quite literally, my "hometown anthem" because it describes the daily life of pretty much everyone I know from back home. That's also why we left ( we moved to the beach, got a good jobs, and we've been down here for over a decade and love life immensely)...because we were sick of heading down that path and watching our friends go that direction, too.

I know the song's about drug culture and drug abuse, but as someone who suffers from anxiety and has a family history of depression, I can't help but relate to the lines about "Why oh why can't you just fix me" and "Why oh why does God hate me". Seems like when you get fucked in the head, those are the first two questions we all ask.

I can't listen to this song without tears in my eyes, singing it aloud (off key as F), cranking it as loud as it can go without busting my speakers, or all of the above. This song is the anthem of anyone who has battled with addiction, win or lose. I've won a couple of battles with addiction and I'm fighting a hard one right now after breaking my neck in a car accident last year. I will win this battle thanks to songs like this and encouragement from stories like the comments before and after mine. A Nashville artist named Jelly Roll has an album called 'Addiction Kills' and it's a MUST LISTEN for anyone struggling with addiction. Music can help heal, it's the best way to medicate... PERIOD.

This came by on my Deezer flow not long after it was released (probably due to that) and the music instantly grew on me, sounded a lot like Avicii but without the pedant electro crap. 5 years since then and I'm still blasting it occasionally and can relate more to the lyrics as the days go by. Thank God I never got involved with drugs or alcohol, but save for that it describes my life in a nutshell. Over sleeping, eating junk, drinking 2 liters of coke everyday, zoning out, always trying to numb myself away from this cold and lonely world. There was a time that all I did was play video games all day, that was in my early teens but I already had the mentality to feel it wasn't right. With time I started to leave this habit and listen to music instead, and nowadays it's the only thing I truly feel it's good for me, that can only bring me benefits unlike video games, series/movies and all that stuff we use to zone out, music makes me transcend into an ethereal world instead, one much better than this one. I can say music saved my life, or at least it still can save it, I just need to fully dive into it, something I couldn't do yet, but spending all my time on music, listening to it and discovering other bands and genres, being able to afford studying music in-depth and learn to play multiple instruments, maybe start a band or a solo project and record/play either covers or original stuff, work with anything music-related, from music stores (sadly going bankrupt and closing doors) to giving music lessons, a life dedicated to music would see no regrets at the end. But all I know now is, until I'm able to live, get a job, get a girlfriend, pay my bills, move out from mom's house, pursue my dream of becoming a musician/multi-instrumentist, professional or not, until there I'll stay on my numbness and blasting songs like this, blasting music which is the only worthy thing I can do, and only hoping for this day that never comes...
