I was in a church that taught about Molech and identified people who continue to worship this god today. (Read: Their political enemies.) What's weird is these same churches, because of their weak accountability, were hotbeds for child abuse.

There is an interesting and plausible hypothesis in the fact that Molech is a fruit of what we call a "Tiqqun soferim." it is a scribal alteration of words associated with a theology that is disturbing. Like Merib-baal became Mephibosheth. "Bosheth" meaning "Shame." There is a lot more. And MoLEK is a deformation of MeLEK which is YWHW himself as the king. So Molek = מֹלֶך Melek = מְלַךְ It’s a work of Massoretes vocalisations.

If they were not doing child sacrifice there would not be any reason to write this up date. But look at all the other things people believe and they don’t care that there isn’t any evidence to support it. “A collection of hand copied extremely old literature” rewritten more than once. Or God wanted it written a certain way. If you go down that road you now have to do what no one has ever accomplished ? You figure it out and claims and assertions won’t be sufficient. From what I understand, this is actually evidence for the practice being present. After all, the above passage doesn’t mention what deity they are being sacrificed to, so it could be assumed that they are being sacrificed to YHWH, but that the author doesn’t approve and doesn’t believe he would command such a thing.

@SamanthaPyper-sl4ye

*Baal-Hamon, receiver of child sacrifices* Like most ancient cultures, the Canaanites (later called Phoenicians by the Greeks) offered sacrifices to their gods. The Phoenicians referred to this practice the letters MLK. Unfortunately, vowels were not a thing yet, but this word - perhaps pronounced molk - is clearly associated with the character Moloch, the Hebrews’ looking-glass version of an evil Canaanite god who, among his crimes, receives children as burnt offerings. It is not uncommon for cultures to make up atrocities about their enemies. There is no good archaeological evidence that the MLK-sacrifices in Canaan involved children, let alone child sacrifices to the storm god in particular, so we should probably leave poor Baal-Hadad alone in that regard. Go further west a few centuries later though, in the Phoenicians’ North African colony of Carthage, and it is pretty clear that another Baal (Lord) did receive children as burnt offerings. Many of the most famous biblical references to Baal, for example the tale of Jezebel, are related to the traditions of the cities of Sidon and Tyre, where the title of Baal (Lord) was applied to deities other than Hadad.

@@lysanamcmillan7972 Things either exist or they do not. Unless you want to get into a discussion about quantum particles or something. I am not claiming omniscience, but generally, we wind our way through life on the basis of what can be demonstrated. I can't prove or disprove that any god exists. Unicorns may exist, and perhaps I can't see them. But I will take a punt and presume that they don't exist until I see a demonstration to the contrary. That is called "working knowledge". Working knowledge, is by necessity, "binary" as you call it. For example. Is my dog alive? If he is dead, I will bury him, and remember him with fond memories. If he is alive, I feed him, groom him, bath him, play ball with him, walk him, take him to the vet when he needs it. Love him. If you want to go full solipsistic, neither I nor the dog exists. So yes, I can ponder about virtual photons, because that is part of the explanatory behavior concerning observed quantum phenomena. it is a model. We model our world, hopefully to track reality. You might also notice elsewhere, when scripture talks about sacrifices, it lays out very specific instructions for how the sacrifice is to be performed; it never just says anything like 'give' without detailed rules for it. The giving of first fruits to the lord can be seen in two ways. If being a farmer, you can either slaughter the animal, or you can set it free for the lord to take care of himself. In other words let nature take its course. Most descendants of kain that are in the game for profittering will slaughter the animal as a pious show of giving. "look at me i sacrifice to god" type of affait thus absolving himself of any guilt he may feel in the eyes of others. Its a con and as many fell for the trick, christ comes along and without pointing out its a con, changes the covenant to be more inline without it being able to be usurped.. Meat torn by beasts, is indicating of the first born be taken from the mother by a farmer that is not serving the lord and in doing so is acting like a beast. Decendants of kain are beasts. The name derives from combining the consonants of the Hebrew melech (“king”) with the vowels of boshet (“shame”), Leviticus 18:21 2 Kings 23: 10 2 Kings 21:6 The child sacrifice of the first born is misconstrued as it indicates that teaching to child the laws of heaven instead of the usual teachings of the patriarchs.
