Thank you for posting this and reminding people that sometimes joining the military means handing over your life, your decisions, your safety and your power to people who really only care about war and winning.

Back when I was in the military, we were concerned with doing our jobs and were unlikely to be keeping up with current affairs. Long hours did not give us time to read newspapers or watch TV even if they were available. Letters from home might take a month to get to us... We were just cogs in a huge machine and did our part to the best of our ability. If our leaders had lied to us and told us that were were invading a country because that country had attacked us, we would not have questioned the orders and would have felt them to be justified... A young soldier is trained to follow orders because if he hesitates, that could mean danger for his entire team... If your enemy is telling you that your orders are not just and are wrong, you are going to have difficulty believing what they are saying... Maybe things are different these days with cellphones that have internet access, but back in my day, that's pretty much how it was... Hopefully, the Russian soldiers will realize that they are being lied to and refuse Putin's orders... Even better would be if they rose up and eliminated Putin since that is probably the only way that Russia will ever be trusted again...

Yep, thats just how the Russian army does business. It's pretty old school. They send in their conscripts 1st then the regulars after. People saying that convoy stalled out but pretty sure it's just waiting.

They most likely are fodder, conscripts and new hires sent in as canon fodder to locate Ukrainian positions, while the real armed forces go for objectives. It's a pathetic, cowardly tactic, that goes back to the soviet union sadly.

That's because a decent chunk of Russia's army is made up of people doing their mandatory military service. Those people never even wanted to be soldiers in the first place, nevermind invading anyone.

Putin could never commit the bulk of his professional forces to a campaign outside of Russia. He truly believes that NATO would walk right over the border, which may end up a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy with how things are going. Those forces are the only credible defense he has aside from his nuclear arsenal.

​@@green8989 you are right. not one of them is carrying an AK-47. they look like they are carrying 0:06 AK-74N (5.45x39) and or 1:20 AK-103 (7.62x45) since the AK-47 was replaced by the AKM in the 60's and were later upgraded to more modern polymer based platforms in the late 90's/ 2000's copying the wests push for modularity in the m4a1 platform. its possible they may be carrying the ak-12/ak-15 rifles however those were probably not handed out to a troop left like this.

Um, it is pretty clear there are a few people in that bunch wearing white arm bands on their arms and legs. To me it looks like the brass took the armbands off so if these guys are spotted on the road they're more likely to get shot by other Russians thinking these guys are UAF
