The phrase "By The People" means everyone in the government is a citizen restricted by the same laws as any other citizen. If the President had any kind of criminal immunity, that would make him/her unequal to the common citizen and the principle of "by the people" would be broken. If SCOTUS and Congress are all bound by citizen laws, then so should the President. I can't help but wonder if the right-wing Justices are angling to give themselves "absolute immunity" as well, being the highest members of their branch. And obviously there are a hundred Congress members that would LOVE to have such immunity. No, the President and all members of government are bound by the same laws as you and I, no ifs ands or buts. These Justices are being pedantic and contrarian. Either they are fools that can't see the forest for the trees, or they are furthering fascist agendas. One pf the arguments I heard from, I think it was Alito, was "What if a president organized a protest against a specific piece of Legislation that Congress was considering, would that be illegal?" Considering that particular argument I have to say that it was an impossible situation which would never occur based upon the fact that if a president did not care for a specific piece of legislation, there would be no need to protest since that president could simply VETO the bill should it come to the desk in the Oval Office. To me, this was a silly hypothetical presented by a Justice to do nothing more than waste time. The entire proceeding should NEVER have occurred since the SCTUS should have NEVER taken the case. The other thing which was mentioned was the part where a good prosecutor could indict a 'ham sandwich'? THAT is a scenario that I personally would like to see played out and proven as fact. How could an inanimate object be indicted? This entire scenario of determining whether or not a president is given absolute immunity is so contrary to the very basis of our government that it's laughable for it to even be considered and the conservative leaning Supreme Court is the entity receiving the laughs.

SCOTUS Justices should be required to face _the People_ via election every 8 years to ensure they are still serving the country and not an individual or a Party. And serve no more than 3 eight year terms (24 years) if reelected twice. And initiate a significantly stringent Standards & Ethics Code, monitored by a Civilian Commission.
