Russian troops entered the village of Mokrets, on the border of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, just days after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On March 10 the Ukrainian military defeated a large column of occupiers' equipment, near this village. This allowed to suspend the offense from the east in Kyiv region and to secure Brovary, which the Russian military did not reach. Two local hunters, Roman Vereshchak and Serhiy Bilous, helped the Ukrainian military to stop the Russian invasion. They handed over the positions of Russian equipment and the military to Ukrainian defenders so that they could aim at the occupiers more effectively. Roman Vereshchak was killed while performing combat missions.
