Not sure why there is so many negative comments! Having been a SW engineer for 35+ years, from low-level to application level projects, even something as simple as an Arduino kit can provide valuable baseline info for any new engineer. No one starts at the top and knows everything. A good foundation of experience even as simple as turning on/off an LED provides a stepping stone of knowledge that eventually leads to a well rounded and competent individual in the electronics/computer driven world. It's all good...gotta start somewhere!

Agreed, you can learn the basics of software and electronics through arduino. This is, in my opinion, the best way to get people started in software due to all the support from the arduino community and the thousands of tutorials for every level of development from blinking a light to working with raw microcontrollers. Stepping stones are plenty so that one can learn at their own pace. Find a good tutorial series, and learn some C programming .

Larry Luffel Hello! I've been thinking about changing my career development into electronics, because there are a lot of possibilities to develop plus it looks like something I'd like doing, BUT I'm at ground 0 and I'm not sure if that's something worth doing at 30. I'd appreciate your opinion.

I have to say, Arduino is overwhelmingly versatile. I've flashed my 3D printer cartridge chips with it, made an ESC (electronic speed controller) throttle tester, emulated an accelerometer with a moving 3D model on my computer- Oh god. I should buy more and dedicate these [inexpensive $10] boards to serve specific purposes.

Thank you for posting this. Its very refreshing to find people who don't assume you're already beyond the "Is the device plugged in and powered on stage". Electronics (and computers) has ALWAYS been rather cryptic and elitist and a few gentle pushes in the right direction makes a big difference.

Good video, subscribed. I was born in 1969 and always loved gadgets. In the 70's I got the Radio Shack 75 in 1 and started from there. In the 80's I got my high school built z80, mini color organs, etc. and built customer power supplies and an alarm system. I haven't don't much with them in recent times, but this seems like a fun way to start back up again. Thanks for the video!

I purchased both an unofficial arduino and a genuine arduino a few weeks back. the 'fake' came from China, cost 90p and works faultlessly. The genuine one arrived in a sealed official box, and cost £17.99. however, upon opening for the first time, I noticed the first pin to the processor chip had snapped off. I find it ironic- yes buying unofficial doesn't support arduino directly, but from my experience, the quality is no better. it's a simple bit of hardware, so this taboo over buying 'fakes' is completely unjust.
@FawfulDied

It costs less to get a complete Arduino Nano clone from China ($1.80 shipped) than to buy ATMega328 chips, bare, in the US (over $3+shipping in single quantities).

I find it rather ironic, that someone would bother to go to the trouble of trying to rip off / copy a genuine Arduino when you are allowed to make your own. Guess some people are so used to stealing they failed to see the free sign...
@sarowie
@sarowie 7 років тому
I have some clones and one original. I highly recommend an original to get started, as this best starting point to experience the platform. The clones are - deepending on the manufacturer - hit and miss. One of the clones I have has the sockets soldered in in random angle, making it hard to use shields (but it works fine for bread board use). The other clones at features like a 3V3 power supply option or more power and ground pins or additional to the sockets, a row of pins to connect to the I/Os. This alterations/features can really make a difference.

Great video which answered a few questions I had about ardunio. I want to build turn a thunder tumbler rc vehicle into an autonomous robot with a sonar sensor. Since they are a cheap chassis with 2 strong 6V motors (one for each wheel) I figure there's nothing better to start with. Now, my questions are why do most people I see turning these into autonomous robots use the original board in the car along with arduino? It seems a bit overwhelming to me since each board seems to vary in these cars. I know they speak of an H-bridge a lot which apparently is the cars controller for motors but still why keep it since it seems to complicate things? I see people starting with basic motors for each wheel without having any other boards which seems much simpler to me. Any information for this newb on the subject will be great appreciated. I'm excited to build my first autonomous robot but just need a little help getting started using one of these thunder tumbler cars.

Question, does this have the real time clock capabilities to run spark ignition and fuel injection on a custom engine? Rpm could be as high as 4500. Don't mind using more than one if I need too. Had also considered an Odroid C1 since I don't have a computer to even program a microcontroller yet. What is your opinion on what I would need? Also need the capability to nearly synchronize three different engines. Since the application I am building for, varies in its power requirements a lot.

Desperate for help. I'm building a robot using the Mini Maestro servo controller and Pololu control center software. I'm very new to all of this. My robot has two mass flow controllers that are controlled with 0-5v analogue but the Mini Maestro output is 0-5v PWM. I find a lot on the internet about low pass filters to solve the problem but I'm not an engineer and am not grasping it although it seems rather simple. Can you help?
