I think a good way of putting it is winning these uphill battles is just simply a better feeling on third strike then anywhere else. at the end of the day these uphill battles exist in everygame but how you overcome it simply doesnt compare or isnt impressive.

The game had revisions pushed out by capcom that had changes such as removing oro unblockables, and altering the juggle properties of necro's elbow. Later versions of the game went out of their way to keep the bug fixes the revisions brought, but undo the balance changes. The idea that the developers built their perfect vision and that community had no influence on the game as we know it now, is not reality.

The game is awesome no doubt, pretty much timeless and produces some of the best competition in the franchise, i just don't like 2D fighters. I've tried to like them and 3rd Strike was actually the first fighting game i took seriously but there's just so much more variance in ability and options in 3D, more surprises, the speed and limited movesets in 2D put more emphasis on player ability and reaction times, but it feels more shallow to me, more binary, simply being able to sidestep adds so much player expression and i feel the same about SF3's parry, that's a huge part of why 3 is so good but also why 3D is so good.

Its Hard for me to pick just one fighting game and say that it is the best when I believe that a few other games are also worthy of the same title. Just like in sports,It's hard to say who is the GOAT when other player also has an argument. For me...Super SF2 Turbo,SF3 3rd Strike,Alpha2 and Sf Alpha3,Capcom vs SNK2,Garou: Mark of the Wolves,KOF2002UM,Kof98UM FE ,KOF13,Marvel vs Capcom 2, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, Ultimate MK3....All have an argument for best fighting game ever made imo

MvC2 will always be the Greatest Fighting Game of All Time for me. Both games have unbalanced top tiers but MvC2 is by far more broken. Plus it has the highest execution of any and every fighting game. I would much rather watch Storm/Sentinel/Magneto/Cable mirrors all day, compared to Chun/Yun/Ken mirrors.

The perception of 3rd strike is completely determined by the fact it is old and few people play it. If 3rd strike came out today, people on twitter would complain constantly about character imbalance and wake up parry. But because so few people actually play it and explore its mechanics, it has the freedom to be eternally pristine.

I think there is so much ranking that the FGC get's serious groupthink. A good fighting game gives you multiple styles that can be used in multiple ways. Everybody get's caught up in Korean backdash and footsy timings. But you are obsessing. You lose sight of a wider meta. Young people do this without thinking. They only know about attacking. But if you are a master of the genre, you are thinking about a full strategy which really doesn't consider your life bar, only how to checkmate your opponent with a surprise attack or sequence of moves. When you think like that, you will outmanoeuvre your opponent.
