I think I was born in the wrong era because, I could go back in the woods and live, and fish for my food, I use to fly fishing with my father in law, and I loved it. When you walk down that lane, I am on your shoulder, enjoying every thing you to sir. May god bless, you for everything you do. And, god bless to your family.

People that lived in these KY. and TN. mountainsides are raised to be tough. My mother told me lots of stories. She was born 1935 in KY. She said that they had beds made from the corn shucks on the floors. She told me that she could remember looking through the cracks in the floor and seeing their chickens under the house. She talk about all the cold winters growing up on that mountain in Eastern KY. I was raised on a farm we worked so hard for everything. My mother passed away in 2013. She worked so hard to give her 7 children a good life. Then today you have these people using words like white privilege. They all need a wake-up call. It is called hard work!!! I miss you mom.

I'm from the East Coast but my father's from Canada. I don't know why, but he loved Bluegrass music. I'd press my ear up against the speaker to listen like a fool. My grandfather was a machinist for Sun Oil and worked on the battleships that would need repair from the war. He grew apples when he retired, and my brother and I would help in the fall. It was hard work (to me), but worth so much. He was friends with the last chief of the Lenni-Lenape Indians in MD. He was shown where their grave site was, I think among Indians that's sacred ground. Pop-pop was known by everyone around. People would drive from up in PA to buy apples from him. He had brought timber from an old barn in Pennsylvania to build his barn, He had two J Deere tractors, a '50 and '55. He was the hardest worker I knew, and hunted, fished (he was on Field&Stream once for fly-fishing), apple farmed, and was a good example of a man. I honestly think people now-adays have lost their minds. Joe Biden lived near me about 3 miles away. He used to come in a popular restaurant I worked at. Everyone would make a big deal about him "Biden's here!". I was extremely suspicious of him because he seemed like he just loved the attention, but not the people. My girlfriend's family were friends with the Bidens. Her younger brother told me that he "knew that guy was a pedophile when I met him". Biden had lived in the artist community in Arden, Del. It was a strange place, my Dad worked at IBM, and we'd go to the dinner theater there for christmas party. We drove into that place and I got a wierd vibe, I was wondering what in the world we were doing there. A man who lived there, Jay Parker, said that it was an Illuminati center. They used to have rituals in the basement of the dinner theater there. It was a very bad place, the local police were called, and they killed the two officers and called the headquarters and told them "If you want anymore of this, send more policemen". Biden is connected with extremely evil people. This is how it is now-adays, people have lost their minds.

My mom grew up in north Georgia. When you said, see the chickens under the house, I had to laugh. My mom said snow flakes would come through the walls. It was a hard life, but a darn good life full of love and a big family.

I completely agree, the only problem is, the people running and fixin to run this country dont necessarily want people like this. They want people to be dependent on the government, not independent. Thats systematic control. Ah and if they can talk you into bein in debt with a cpl banks then that's just a plus.

First I'm 70 y old.I lived thru the 50s,I drove old cars, had a paper route,a Draft Card,Bought&sold cars,Dad bought&sold cars, not many late 40s to current havent driven. ANYTIME someone post a video of the 50s someone always tells how we hung blacks&done this or that😡,YES there were bigots and racist,BUT a lot of that talk was not true!. We WORKED and never had time for all they said we done!!. I lived in Indiana, like I said bought cars, off black people,We never had racial issues here that I saw,I went to school w blacks in the city and suburbs after we moved. Most blacks stayed in their own areas. There were stores here called Atlas that sold items they liked it was a biracial store whites went there too.@ least around here we never had many issues,NOW WE DO!,They hate us now!, We have shootings about every night,Racial progress!??... Its horrible!.

Mr. Day, I just saw this wonderful video. I lost my dad 35 years ago to cancer. He was 68. I am now 65. My dad always made sure that I knew our family history and roots from the time I was old enough to understand it all, to his passing. I have done the same with my children. My mom had a heart condition and was unable to have children. Mom and dad adopted me when I was 3 months old and they never hid that fact from me. They wanted me to know. As far as I’m concerned, they were my mom and dad and I loved them both very dearly. I know from the bottom of my heart that I am a very blessed person. You remind me so much of my dad. He had a hard life and quit school at the age of 12 years old to go to work because of the death of his dad in the coal mines. My dad hired out in the old CC camps to support his mom and his 3 younger siblings. May God go with you and continue his blessings upon you!

Charlie, I see you put this up a year ago. Hope you are still around. You, like me, have tons of memories. Mine start two years before yours---1933 in Elliot Co Ky, 15 miles from Sandy Hook. A little wood frame house on our tobacco farm a mile up Whites Creek. The creek bed was our road. I remember Harlan Co as a rough place to live, like Pike Co. We had trouble keeping a sheriff in Elliot Co, they kept getting shot! Like you, I miss those carefree days when a ride in dads model a was a great thrill. Or a night of possum hunting carrying the lantern. Like you, Charlie, I have far to many memories to let them all go.

Tomorrow would have been my daddy’s 92 birthday. Wednesday is his 22nd Heaven Day Anniversary. My daddy came from very similar circumstances from St. Joseph , Missouri. I was so blessed to have his older sis, Aunt Gloria show us were he grew up, went to school, deliver telegrams and finally convincing my gram at 15 to let daddy join the USMC. After the end of WW2 he became a Firefighter in central California. He returned to the Corps to go to Korea. When he came home he became a Kern County Fire Fighter. He rose in rank fairly quickly & when he retired after a heart attack he was a Battalion Chief. He proved you could grow up dirt poor ( not realize you were ) and become successful both in his career and his family.

Love the scenery, enjoy the friendly people. So glad Charlie got to tell his story and so glad someone took the time to film and produce it

Mr. Day, I've truly enjoyed your story. I'm from Columbia, Kentucky, in Adair county. We grew up on a big old farm, my dad also worked for the county roads driving a road grade. My mother always had a big garden & canned everything she could & only had a wringer washer, & hung the clothes on 2 big clothes line. There was 6 of us kids, so she had 8 people, ( including her & daddy) to wash for & to cook for. There was a creek across the gravel road, we loved going swimming, different places in the creek. I have so many wonderful memories of our childhood. Our daddy died in 1983 & mama in 2001. Best of wishes to you & your family.

Jon Bonez, I was going to comment to Serviccarrider that it was happening to me now. I have 2 boys, 3 grandchildren, and siblings....but I’m alone, no friends, no one calls, comes by, or invites me. I have a husband, but he’s an alcoholic, when he gets off work sits in his truck on a daily and drinks till he’s falling down drunk or abusive....so I have no husband really. I keep telling myself, I have God and my dog to talk to & protect me.

The sorry federsl government succeeded in getting mankind away from living off the land and brainwashed folks after the 60's to think that they needed to get a college degree unorder to get ahead in life. All that discuss leave folks in debt with high debt for their college loans. We have ruined our country over the past 70 years since early 1960's.
