Not a leafs fan,but who didn't completely expect this?

The biggest mistake the leafs made was paying Matthews, Marnier, Tavares and Nylander those big contracts before they proved themselves in the playoffs. Bad management decision all around.

Yes im a Bs fan but I love the sport and follow it passionately. I enjoy watching Matthews and was a huge Felix Potvin, Mats Sundin, Gilmore fan growing up. Leadership is what’s wrong with this team. Your core is strong in skill but weak in heart! Too much money for regular season success. Marner is the type of player that will fold and break if this team ever makes it to the Cup.

That made it literally impossible for them to have any playoff success. In the playoffs you need a deep team with talent spread throughout. You need a Norris Trophy-level defenseman leading a six-deep defense. You need four legitimate lines. You need a Vezina-level goalie.

They haven't even come close to making it to the conference finals and have only made it past the first round once (in a series where they were outplayed in almost every game). I know this may make you gag, but the Bruins are the better team, especially their defense and goaltending. Anything is possible as far as a comeback, but it's highly unlikely.

Once the GM tells the player he's no longer part of their plans, the player will come up with a list of teams he will agree to go to. If they refuse to waive their NTC, then the player gets marginalized by the team and their career nose dives.

This leafs team is no different than last year's club against Florida. Up against a playoff ready team who plays physical, fights for the puck along the boards . The leafs fluff four decide not to compete. The team issue is with those four players. That's where all the money is invested

You glossed over the reason, a perfect example for why they lose in the playoffs. 2 of the leafs best players have missed 3 games and a vital 3rd period with a headache and stomachache. Bruins player especially their leaders play through pain and injury in the playoffs if possible. Too many to name. Heart, intensity, urgency, intelligence are all missing from the leafs and has been for years.

The leafs are able to crush middling teams in the regular season on the back of individual performances, they playoffs where individuals don’t make as much of an impact as a full team effort, they evaporate

Toronto has a lot of scoring potential, but You need a goalie 🥅 in the playoff’s. The best player on a playoff team HAS to be the goalie, or you won’t make it past the second round..!

The Leafs are done because their coach won't demand his team to fix their lack of defence. They bunch up, all going for the puck in one spot and get in each other's way, while the opposing team remains spread out so they can pass it to each other, and not collide with each other. Also, when the Leafs are on the defensive and boxed in, they will just stand still and watch the other team pass it to each other, instead of skating towards the opposing player with the puck and forcing him to shoot the puck too early to be of any use. This has been going on for years. First step for improvement is to fire their entire coaching staff.

Beginning of the end for Shanahan who should have been removed for hiring Babcock. The Leafs need a system that stretches from the AHL to the NHL like so many other teams. They don't develop talent, at all. Woll and Lily are the only players who've come up through the system and contribute regularly. The management needs to go. You can only play the exact same plays over and over and over before other teams catch on.

Edmonton is the next cup dynasty if the Mathews trade is done. Mathews & Hyman as part of Oilers core would bring the cup back to Edmonton. Do whatever it takes to make the trade. Get it done & move forward in Edmonton 👍

Mathews sat out the third period. Are you kidding me. Patrice bergeron played with a punctured lung. Tkachuk played with broken bones. I think mathews quit on the team becaue they where down 3-0. A player with heart wouldnt sit out the third because of a sore tummy.

Im a Bruins fan but this leaf team is a huge mystery. We watched a very explosive leaf offence all winter. Perhaps one of the best. Loaded with talent. They turned it on for 15 minutes in the 3rd. Surely by now they should know that wont work. I have no answer. Were not even told why the top paid player in the league couldnt play the 1st 3 games. Yet we see him skating in the practices with no sense of being injured...joking and smiling. More mystery..sadly they've become more a drama series than a hockey series. Go leafs go in game 5. Show the hockey world your true potential.

Coaching staff has got to be replaced. Bottom of the league in team D special teams have been atrocious. Bring in Dale Hunter or Adam Oates. We need a true #1 Goalie, and D core. Tavares only has one more year on that albatross of a contract. Then offer him 2 million tops for a following year. These kids need to grow up!!

Replacing the coach with a ball buster would make them play harder. Yes the players would hate him, but that’s what this group apparently needs. The fact that they came out harder in the third proves they had it in them to work harder.

Auston matthews is a layer ANY team would love to have. However, Auston is a Scotty Pippen type personality. Maple Leafs need that charging Number 1 player that Auston can play behind and not have to worry about carrying the team.

I made a point of not watching a single second of Leaf hockey this season, and I swore I would not watch the playoffs unless they made it to the conference finals. Maybe I'll see some of them on the golf course later this week...

A lot to unpack here. As usual, the Leafs need to get out of town during playoffs. They are up tight and it is showing. They look as if every stride of skate is because they are trying to catch a bus that's already leaving. They do NOT look relaxed, they look like they are floundering, especially defensively and I have the feeling that it might be in the coaching. ANY team in the NHL right now can take a lesson from the Panthers and their coaching staff. I haven't seen such a consistant team of middle of the road to good players do so well time and time again. They are tough, they don't stop and they are loosey goosey on the ice. Their mindset is, "What can I do this shift to win?" and not "Gee I hope I don't screw up this shift!" They are hesitant on their forechecking and you can tell with the outstretched sticks and them not quite being there on que. I can sure think of a lot of players ahead of Marner that they could trade. Marner is the backbone of that team when it comes to setting up plays. They are overflowing with talent but it hasn't been tempered in the fire the proper way. (Again coaching.) The only thing they can do at this point is to go out in next game and make sure they win every shift... one shift at a time... as a TEAM.

The parallels between the Leafs and the Jays are uncanny. Both have amateur level coaches and terrible management and “star” players who don’t come through when it counts and currently can barely muster 2 goals/runs or less per game.

The Leafs are structured to be a good regular season team and they are. All the seats in the arena are filled. Fans are thrilled by the individual exploits of the stars in the regular season. Next year will be no different. The 25/26 season is the time both Marner and Tavares have their contracts come to an end. MLSE will then have to make the choice on whether to enjoy the regular season success or be serious about the playoffs. $20 million dollars should be at least a good start on building a playoff team. As a Montreal fan I hope MLSE choses to run it back again.

As a former leaf fan who cut all ties to this franchise back on 2004, I can emphasize with leaf fans. The 9th adage of goaltending and defence wins championships. This leaf team appears to have neither.

This is sickening...I'm fifty-six and short of the Clark era, they have given us nothing. Marchand does not make the money these four do, but he is ten times the player anyone of these Core-Four are!!! You do not pay four players the contracts these guys got when they are unproven players who have accomplished nothing!!! Regular season stats do not matter, the Stanley Cup matters!!! Get rid of these guys, build a team that has grit, heart, and can play when hurt and even injured. Entitled, kids living in an era that puts no priority on accountability, work ethic, or having to earn and work for something! Disgrace, and Shanahan and Dubas caused this!!!

They need to stop worrying about how they look in TV commercials, having their ear rings seen and also making sure to be shirtless (Nylander) in post game interviews and focus on hockey lol
