My wife and I have the larger 6 person version of the tent with the vestibule. It also came with a small 'tarp' section that mystified us. We came up with the same as Luke - that it's a doormat to put your shoes on. Maybe also extra material for repairs? Odd to include loops if that was the case. Our tent has held up very well through some decently heavy use. We went camping with our big dogs in ours and they ran into the walls a lot - no damage. In South Dakota we got hit by a couple rain storms, one with some grape sized hail included. Tent was fine, don't recall any leaks. For the money and convenience I have no complaints.

Spent two years (2018-19) for a total of 14 weeks (2- 7week camps) no problem except the nylon ropes turned to dust from UV destruction. The "rug" seemed to be unnecessary, but was helpful in keeping floor from mud.

I have the 4-person Dark Room Coleman Sundome tent. Love it! It is dark for blocking out the campfire at night and the dawn's sun. I've slept to 9:30am in this tent without interruption from the sun. It has been through 4 rainstorms. The last one I had the zippers at the bottom of the door, this is the only time the tent has leaked (and only a little bit). SO if you get this tent, remember to zip the two-door zippers to the TOP of the door to avoid leaks. Strength and Honor, enjoy the camp.

Thanks for doing a review on this tent. Me and my grandkids have used the 4 person and 6 person version of this tent for years (caught them ALL on sale at one time or another) and have never had any issues with water leakage. Granted, we are true 'glampers' that try to avoid going camping during rainy periods. However I recall i trip we made wherein it POURED the rain for a long time during an intense thunderstorm. I was really dreading to see how much water got into our tents..... but to our surprise, all three tents (one six person and two two person) were bone dry. I also recall another incident wherein it came a local flash flood in the area we were camping in with just the 6 person tent. We were at dinner during the gully washer and were truly dreading to see if everything stayed dry.....but to our amazement zero water had gotten in (and I had actually forgotten to zip up the door window (I guess we just got lucky and it wasn't a 'blowing' rain??). I'd highly recommend them for glampers. Just my agenda free and no paid story of our personal experience with them !.

Up in the deep woods of maine in late April it survived 4 days of some pretty heavy downpour and about 30-35 mph winds. No leaks or wet spots were found (very surprised).. I had 0 condensation as the whole top is mesh with the cover tarp gapped over it. The extra piece they supply I have been using as a front porch as other reviewers have. I have gone out with it a few times since and can set up within 5 minutes. Really simple and 4 man has a ton of room. And cheap!

That as others have said is a door mat. I made my own and take it with every tent I camp with. I never step on it with dirty boots/shoes, just stand on it as I take them off. Keeps the inside of the tent clean and free of sand and etc. When I was teaching my daughters how to camp, I always stressed never leave a tent unzipped or unroll your bag until you get it it. When they said why I explained that sleeping alone was better for a good nights sleep. After one found a mouse in her purse they never left anything open again 😲😱 🤣

I was not sure that my wife would like back packing so I did not want to spend a great deal of money on gear until we knew if she wanted to go more than a couple of times. When I received the tent I set it up in the back yard and it rained hard for two days on and off. It did not leak at all, however, I did not have the little holes that his tent showed in the corners. We used the tent last year in the RMNP camping at Sandbeach Lake. This lake is over 10000 feet in elevation and it got pretty could that night, but we stayed pretty warm even though it was around 28 degrees. We also used it in middle Tennessee at the end of October and it was good. However, it does not have vestibules and it could really use more mesh on the inner tent in my opinion. It is also 7.5 lbs which is heavy. You can get the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 for 134.00 and it weighs a little over 3 lbs.

It basically boils down to what you said “it’s good, not great”. It could be a little bigger as I don’t think 4 adults would sleep very comfortably in it, but it fits us fine. I don’t regret buying it at all. It’s easy to set up, feels relatively sturdy, packs down decently small and It has always been dependable for us. Growing up, going camping came with the expectation that it was going to be an adventure. If I wanted to sleep in perfect conditions, I'd stay home. Camping SHOULD include a leaky tent, hotdogs dropped in the fire, chips knocked in the dirt, flies, bees, yellow jackets, hail, wind, lightning, ants and anything else nature can provide. Going to sleep in the mountains during a storm is the best sleep aid I can think of. Waking up in the middle of the night with a wet sleeping bag is adventure sleeping! It makes my warm, dry bed at home feel that much better. :) I think it comes down to life or death. We always camped near our vehicle in national forest. If we were miles from shelter and heat, yeah, this might not be the tent. Not to mention 7lbs is a little heavy for a backpacking tent, wouldn't you say?

Good morning, Luke. I’ve owned one of these Coleman Sundown 2 person tents for approximately 12 years. When I first started backpacking, we carried one but my son and I split up the weight. It’s definitely too heavy for backpacking. That being said, on one trip we had a severe thunderstorm roll through and it absolutely poured rain. We sat in the Coleman and stay perfectly dry. My wife and I use it for camping and it’s been solid for us. You can fit a queen size mattress in there but it doesn’t leave a lot of room. Our last trip we used an electric blanket and we stayed nice and toasty. I highly recommend this tent. Not sure if the newer ones are as waterproof. I really like the Sundown. My boy scout troop used Coleman Sundomes (older version of course) while I was in back in the early 2000s. They were decent, durable, good for their price. They did leak a small amount but no one ever got really wet in them.

I’ve used several Coleman tents. With enough rain and age you get some leaks but over all not a bad product. Bought this model for a friend’s daughters to play with

I have the green one. It's been great so far, and a great option for the kids. I don't test things quite like Luke, but it has held up nicely to everything at this point. I think I paid around $40 a few years back. Hard to beat!

Coleman has always been our tent for years, main reason is of course, its affordable. Some leaked, some not. We upgraded to the instant tent for 6 people and so far it didn't disappoint us when all of a sudden it rained whole night non-stop that night when we went camping last year. We also tried Core tents and I like them too.

their warranty service is excellent.....had the oasis 4 man dome used 4 times .....my darn dog ran into the fly tie down cord wide open ....and slightly tore the tiedown eyelet on the fly where it’s sewed on ...got ahold of customer service ...they requested pics and some other info ....within 6 days they sent me a brand new darkroom 4 man dome tent and told me to keep the other one or dispose of it ......that’s why i’ve stood by there camping products for over 35 years ....they stand by there warranty

I have had several Coleman tents, stoves, lanterns etc.. Had pretty good luck with the Peak 1 line. Loved the Peak 1 2 man tent. Wore it out at my mtn. property. Really like the peak 1 propybutyl stove. Had the old Peak 1 white gas stove. LOL1 It was a bomb but worked.

I've used this tent 2 or 3 years in a row at Assateague Island and I've had no issues with it. I was short on funds and I needed a new tent so I gave it a trrry.

I bought a Mountain hardwear tent 25 years ago, still have it... but I prefer to hand in a Hammock. A friend buys cheap new gear every year. Over the last couple decades he as spent about 10 times what I have and we go on many of the same trips. This tent I will bet would only be good for kids in the back yard.

I have this tent in the 4-person version. I searched a long time for the tent that met my physical and budgetary needs. I have a compact frame hammock that has its own built-in tent setup that I use in the summer in all weather. I was heading for some fall season camping with my Scouts and wanted a larger setup that would fit my hammock and I could set up myself (I'm 5-1" with a few physical limitations.) It poured the week before my camp out so I didn't set it up outside for a test. I did do a quick run through in my living room to make sure everything was there and I knew how it worked. And that my hammock did fit. I camped in below freezing overnight weather through the end of October and November (western NY). We also had rain. I did stay dry inside. When the wind picked up and our temp was going low, I re-staked the fly closer to the base of the tent to hold more heat inside, which did help. That scrap of material that you couldn't identify is supposed to be a shoe mat or floor mat. You can stake it outside the door. But the overhang isn't big enough to protect that in the rain, so I brought it inside the door and left my shoes on it. Saved the sweep out time at the end of the camp out. I really liked the tent. It isn't too heavy, I can set it up myself, and I stayed dry and relatively warm (yes, I did the proper sleeping gear set up for overnight personal warmth.) I like that I can almost stand in it to dress and had enough room for my hammock, my gear and my camp stool inside the tent. I like the blue because I can see it when camping in the woods and approaching it after a hike.

I had this tent for years. I used it in the snow and rain. hot weather and cold weather. It is an excellent tent for the price, and is the perfect starter tent for someone who doesn't know what they want. Once you take camping more seriously you will want to upgrade to a better tent.

My friends and I have been using Coleman tents as well as the Walmart knockoffs for years in all 3 season weather scenarios...they're good like you said. Most of the leaking comes from human error.

I had the 4 man version and have slept through so many major storms and always started dry. My favorite budget tent that you can buy! Only difference is mine didn’t have the pole sleeves at the top just clips. Could set it up in 5 minutes even after some beverages

We use the four person version of this tent in our Scout Troop and Venture Crew. They hold up extremely well to the abuse of monthly campouts and do not leak if set up properly. Like any other piece of gear they require proper maintenance and storage (every once in a while we find a moldy tent that was shoved in the back of the cabinet instead of being hung up to dry).

That extra piece is a door mat to leave your shoes on. I like this color of blue and green. My tent was the green and white model. I abused that tent by leaving it set up in my back yard to store propane and fire wood, charcoal and extra gear I didn't have room for in my house. It was up for over two years and one side of it was completely exposed to the sun while most of the other sides were shaded by an overhead tree. The exposed side finally ripped. It withstood heavy rain, snow, ice and wind gusts. The only leak was on the exposed side. The fabric was worn so thin I could touch it and it would disintegrate. If I had not abused the heck out of it I would still be able to use it.

My family owns two of them (3 and 4 person) and they get used in scouting. Easy to set up, keeps us dry, and overall a really good value. Sure, you could spend a great deal on a tent, but for the price, these are very good.

If your anything like us, you started with a Colman...In fact, it seems like that was the only thing on the market 18 years ago! Don't throw away your Colman...It means something special! However, if you are looking to shed some serious weight off your tent without spending big dough; make sure to check out our version of Ultralight on Amazon! We weigh just under 2.63lbs and only cost $99! See you on the trails!

Thank you for this review Luke. I am enjoying your channel and am a new subscriber. So, I bought this tent as a beginner. I camped out in the backyard before trying it out elsewhere. I unleashed the sprinkler on it for a while and put it out in strong winds. It hasn’t leaked so far. It did have some condensation and it wasn’t too warm when it got below 50 degrees, but that could just be my personal temperature preference. It does seem to have a good bathtub floor. I like the space. It would be nice if it had two doors and more vents. I also wish the door had some Velcro or toggle to keep it open or out of the way. The thingies it does have on the inside seemed useless to me. I would use this in Spring, maybe Summer, but definitely not winter with cold temps, snow and freezing rain. But I am looking forward to the rest of this review series. 😄👍

I was in a Coleman tent once in northern Michigan and it rained something crazy like 4 inches. The campground flooded and walking around the inside of the tent was like walking on a waterbed but it never leaked. Just a fwiw.

Another great video with a bad tent. A buddy of mine bought this tent when he first became homeless, again. He saw holes everywhere even after using 3 cans of waterproof spray. He used a wool blanket between the fly and the tent body to keep in heat and block holes along the stitch lines of the vent/screens. To keep dry he put a vinyl shower curtain down for a ground sheet, and a vinyl table cloth inside to create a real bathtub floor as well as putting heavy plastic over the top to assist the "rain fly". How do I know all of this; I was in the site next to his. He tried returning it the same day as purchase and was told they couldn't take it back because it was opened. Back when he purchased his the electric cord port was a slot without a zipper. So at least they improved that feature. The door mat thing must be something new - otherwise my buddy was short-changed.
