As a Chinese-American who has to greet all his older relatives individually at gatherings, I understand Lily's pain.

As a 16 year old teen with shyness and mild social anxiety, all I have to say is that Lily is _super_ relatable...I'm from Ethiopia, so doing the air kisses cheek to cheek 3 times for EACH person sucks whenever I'm going to parties.....I already have nervousness going to the party, and all I want to do is find a quiet, isolated corner to be alone in, but I have to do the air kisses and hugging to EVERY DANG PERSON AT THE PARTY, and every party my family has includes at MINIMUM 20 people.....Ugh, I hate parties sooooo much....

I totally understand Lily! As a half Brazilian-Paraguayan, sometimes it is so hard to deal with "besos" (which is "beijos" in Portuguese btw), and even harder when you are a introvert that is not a fan of social events and things that involves physical touch... Like me 💜. Anyway, I like so much Duolingo's short animations!!! Can't wait for the next videos. 😊

As a Spaniard myself, I can understand Lily's pain. It's true what Zara says that you should let the other one take the initiative, but if the other one is expecting the same, the greeting can take like 2 to 3 seconds of awkwardness until you eventually shake hands

As someone who imigrated to Spain, I often avoid kissing ppl on the cheeks and they totally understand it. It is more of a family thing tbh.

As someone who absolutely hates having the culture of greeting people with kisses, hugging or touching strangers I loved social distancing 👍🏻now I honestly just politely say hi and not move even when they lean in, they usually get the memo. as an introverted central-eastern european that values personal space more than air, i have been nothing but baffled when i went to portugal and saw the customs there. i've met my brazilian penfriend of 5 years for the first time and realized we were polar opposites in terms of manifesting affection. the differences from one person to the other are one thing, but DANG! the culture shock is unbelievable even for small things like that, it's like a whole different set of values in sooo many aspects
