I remember watching sims 3 trailers and my mom said that the sims look like real people, I doubt most of us would agree now

Ngl I can already feel my PC sobbing just from the idea of playing a game with such graphics. It looks amazing, but it also looks like unless you have a really good graphic card, you may run into some problems

I think something to be aware of is that the company creating this game is Korean. With South Korea in general being more traditional/conservative in their values and views on beauty etc, I think the diversity may not be as strong in this game, but I'm optimistic as representation is pretty important. Especially in a life sim. edit: I really wish that some of these replies would just read my comment again. Wanting representation doesn't only include it for the lgbt community, it's important for other nationalities and races. In no way am I bashing Korean culture or the people, I'm just explaining that it's important to have neutral expectations. Edit 2: I'm not from the US, not even close, I actually grew up in a conservative environment. It's harmful to paint intersectional representation as an American view, when clearly, people from all over the world are concerned about this.

The game seems very Korean even the movements and behaviors. That's not bad but it explains why some actions like giving a gift feel off. Presenting any gift is much more formal in Korean culture. Being Korean in these early stages also explains the limits on available looks as they are much more of a mono-culture. And life is VERY work centered. I would try playing it... I too don't really care much for the hyper-realism.

tbh sims is like the main life simulation game and has got a long lasting history so i personally think it’ll be quite hard to get as popular but could deffo be better

Korean society is still very binary oriented and a great number of people aren’t hesitant to express uncomfortableness when something doesn’t fit to that. As a Korean game company, to be safe, they wouldn’t walk out of that safe zone easily. Also, Koreans beauty standard is pretty rigid and less open to variety as you would be able to easily tell if you have some chances to watch videos from Korean Sims youtubers. This direction towards hyper realism is kinda understandable and it will do good for them in the Korean market.

I completely agree with Kayla's take on competition. I absolutely dislike that people think one game coming out means it's going to "kill" the other game. Competition for games just means they can improve what they already have.

With inZOI you can actually.... change the style of the game. If you like a cartoonish style, there is a cartoon option that will filter the game to look cartoonish. You missed it at @6:15. It comes with filters.

I feel like the big struggle for this is going to be kinda similar to early Sims 4. In the beginning the big Sims 4 criticism was that it was the Young Adult simulator since it was so narrow in scope and for this game I think it's going to be South Korean simulator. The features, the skin tones, the limited gender options-- I think once the game comes out we're going to find the scope pretty narrow. And maybe it will outgrow that criticism with time or maybe it will stay more niche and focus on just the South Korean experience. Neither would be a negative thing. I just think that it won't be a real competitor to the Sims which is really about the breadth of many different types of lives whereas this seems to be a bit lore depth into one specific kind of life.

I do think that healthy competition to the Sims is WAAAAAAAAY long overdue, and I personally hope games like inZOI and Paralives not only actually come out, but that they're GOOD. I want to see people enter the life sim genre of games and enjoy them, so that the genre gets more attention and more companies bring us these types of games. Like you said simsie, there definitely is some major concerns I have with what was shown in this trailer- the binary man/woman system just makes me, a non-binary person, sad to see. And on top of that, as an artist, seeing that there is an AI generator thing in the game for the artwork worries me so much. It's already tough getting into gaming design and all of that, but to see games accept and use AI to replace artists creating things for their games just rubs me in the entirely wrong way.

I really like this game's look, I just worry that my computer won't be able to handle it. I love realistic games but I hated Sims 3's execution of it, so I'm pretty excited.

The sims needs competition to get better, sims 4 has been lacking content so much for the past years!

I'm really curious about inZOI, but it worries me that they had to send high-end gaming laptops to the influencers who playtested it. I get that it's still in development and likely doesn't have a way to change the settings yet, but that also makes me think... is it even going to look as good on low settings? I also haven't seen much about the gameplay that doesn't feel a bit shallow in its current state, and I worry about how they plan to approach things like monetization and whether or not it will be particularly supportive of mods and CC. Ease of implementing mods and CC are things we kind of assume will be standard and have been openly supported by a lot of the titles we've seen so far, but the inZOI director did mention not really worrying too much about industry standards since... well... that's basically just the sims right now. I'm just very all around interested to learn more, we don't really have a lot of English language publicity from Krafton right now. I think they're more focused on their Korean audience right now with G-Star going on (which is totally fair), but I'm very curious what they have to say when they start opening up more to their international audience. I'll absolutely try it when it comes out, but I think I'll still prefer where Life By You and Paralives are headed.

the super high graphics paired with ai use for basic images makes me think this project is gonna get scrapped. it has the vibes of a tech demo more than a game in production

So far paralives has been the game I see myself playing. Life By You has potential but doesn’t really hit me the same way paralives did. I agree with Simsie, the cartoony style appeals to me more. I’m not a fan of realistic faces. But a lot of sims players use alpha custom content to make realistic sims and I think it’s awesome… just not for me.

The way she gives the gift to the sim is actually not awkward at all, Koreans hand over gifts with both hands and a slight bow, same with when they pay with cash and they shake hands

My fear with all these competitors is that in the end, they are no fun. What (I believe) we miss from the older sims game is CHAOS, unpredictible reactions, crazy neighbours, not perfect sims and shiny bathrooms

It was mentioned that overt realism in the game can date it. I found it interesting that the section where they are showing how you can *change* the realism in the game wasn't noticed, but other things were noticed at that point instead. It looks like the realism can be changed to the point where it looked in the video more like Paralives. What I'm seeing in the game isn't all that interesting. I'm not nearly as interested in having work be the main feature as having family life be the main feature. While there were multiple life stages seen, it's not clear in the videos how that works. (Although, the UKpostsrs who have played the game do talk about how fast they can go from meeting someone in the game to having children, so family life is there but not featured in the video.)

The narrow gender options remind me a little of Animal Crossing. It wasn’t really discussed here, but there was also a lack of body diversity. Everything/everyone seemed to fit a narrow beauty standard. I think it will be hard pressed to compete with the Sims in that way, where you have access to more diversity, but maybe it’s going for a bit more of a “perfect life” type niche?

The main exciting thing about inzoi is that it's open-world. I also really like the perspective we can follow our character from.

I’m actually so excited for this game!! I love this genre so much and this game looks so legit. I also like the they have sleep and energy because it makes it more realistic. I wonder if it has anything to do with like being drained from social interaction or overworking etc.

This is obviously very early, but I am hyper worried about monetisation. Korean developers, like Krafton the makers of the game, often have very predatory microtransactions where the game sells you every single thing. Now, this isn’t anything that has to be the case, but it could be ridiculously expensive if we are unlucky. Then, we have all the AI stuff which could be really terrible and I worry that “sleep” and “energy” are separated in order to sell us “energy refills” like mobile games.

You should have taken that sponsorship. They give you freedom on what you can say because at the end of the day, criticism is needed so the game can be improved upon for the finale release. And yh they sponsored another creator and they just told her to do an honest review video.

My issue with new life sim games is that I feel like players have such high expectations bc they want a game to “replace” the sims, but don’t realize in doing that they’re setting these games and game devs up for failure. EA and the sims as a franchise is worth billions of dollars. I don’t thinks it’s fair that we always try and create competition between a billion dollar company and indie game devs who just want to make a cool life sim.

Between the uncanny hyper-detailed characters and settings, and the lighting, I know if i tried to run this game my computer would explode. One of the most essential requirements I, personally, have for games is that you can adjust lighting/sfx/polygon count without losing too much quality. And my other big thing is, like simsie mentioned, having a not binary character creator. I don't think this game will be my thing, but its cool to see more games in this genre

My concern with the hyper-realism is the graphics requirement and lower-end machines.... but I also know very little about it! I think I am in the minority - I am not actually that interested in alternative Life-Sim games. I am happy with the Sims, I would only bother to invest in anything else if I saw it in lets plays and saw that it was just as open-sandbox style. I also prefer rabbit-hole careers than following my sims to work all the time - I have other sims that I have goals for that I need to monitor!

I'm so excited for this game, the visuals are stunning and the vibe is spot on, hopefully it can be played on lower specs and still look decent as well as more customization for characters. I also hope they implement meaningful and intricate gameplay so the characters and world feel alive and vibrant, unlike the sims 4 which feels so empty and restricted.

I like cute and cozy games and for me when characters look this realistic it doesn’t really have the cozy and cute vibe that I like anymore. I like having realistic gameplay in my games but I don’t want to actually play in a world that looks like te real world bc then it’s not a fantasy escape for me anymore 😂

Realistic looking world and objects is amazing, but realistic looking humans is kinda scary I'm with you on that one. It changes the context of playing a game like this when the sim actually looks exactly like someone you'd meet on the street- the cartoonification that the sims takes helps to remind you that it's just a game and makes it fun. But it seems like overall this game is going for hyper realism, and from the looks of it they're knocking it out the park. I'm not sure if it's for me as I tend to stay away from the active careers in TS4

I don't want this to "kill" the Sims 4 game necessarily, but I want there to be open competition at least so we can CHOSE what game we want to play. Sims 4 has a lot of issues, and I mean A LOT of them, but none of them break the game for me.

I feel like games like this are the most fun when you can pretend to be somebody you're not (like a roleplaying or VR game), instead of being in charge of lots of different people.

id love to see a life sim that isnt just a happiness simulator. most life sims just dont really have challenges people face in the real world and tend to get quite boring after a while.

Yeah I'm concerned about the diversity (gender, body, hair, etc.) and the graphics style being super greedy (and not able to be run on even mid-range PCs). But I hope it gets to work out some of the quirks in early access!

the menus for customization don't really mention anything about gender from what i can understand ( mostly stuff about presets and expressions ) , but i can't say it would be surprising for a game based in south korea to be very binary . a lot of people in south korea are still pretty conservative and lgbt can't get married or have kids together , there's no kind of partnership thing similar to what japan has , and there have been soldiers who came out as trans and got booted out of their military . hopefully it does have that stuff , but given that there isn't very much good and healthy rep in the mainstream over there , it's probably not good to get your hopes up about it .

It looks good but there are so many companies adding to so many genres with different engines and art styles nothing really competes with anything anymore. There really is something for everyone, even in content some people look at everything just for reviewing and it goes away while lives or let’s play would be better for others. I am at least curious though.

Asian culture is still very different from others; I wouldn't necessarily expect non-binary and other options in their games but that doesn't mean the game itself can't still be amazing in terms of gameplay and such!

It reminds me of really high quality CC or an RPG, so the hyper realism doesn’t really bother me. However, something seems off…but I’m not sure what it is… I’d give it a chance if they implemented the tweaks you mentioned and addressed what that AI means 👀 If it actually comes out 🤷🏽‍♀️

Girl it being realistic as possible is amazing, I am so excited for this game to come out, that just means that the customization is going to be absolutely amazing!!!! I have been waiting for a super realistic game like this to come out, and I can't wait.

When you were reviewing at the top of the build UI there seems to be a grid icon that’s turned off.

One issue this game may run into is being playable on a range of computers. The Sims 4's low poly count and stylization is important for optimization - it'll be a challenge for older or less robust computers to run such a graphics-heavy game well.

I dont know if she knows that house flipper 2 will be coming out December 14th....they implemented grid snapping.

these graphics make me wonder if that’s gonna be a game that will only actually be playable like that on a high performance gaming pc. i can imagine it looking pretty rough on lower graphics settings, tho maybe it gets implemented in a way that the lower the graphics settings the more stylised the look, so that might help…

It's Korean's game so sadly it's only gonna be binary system and It's not going to change. Their views on gender and sextuality is very conservative. Even the company wanted to do it, there will definatly be harsh backlash which i'm sure the company's not going to risk it.

I’m already getting the vibes that this game is not going to be inclusive; of gender, sexuality, skin tones, body types, everything. Which is unfortunate because I would love to have a realistic life sim like this be actually representative of real life!

what I like about the concept of more life sims on the market is that it would provide a more steady competition for the sims and having competition would give EA a higher incentive to continue developing the game and making future sims games even better to stay competitive

By far my favorite part of playing the Sims is the building. There simply aren't any better alternatives. With what little we've seen, this already blows every other life simulator, including the Sims, out of the water. The graphics are so damn impressive I don't see how I can return to Sims after playing this for even a few hours.

We've gotten to the point where Sims players are so dependent on the Sims 4 that a life-simulator game looking "realistic" is considered a bad thing. Like in no other genre do we have people complaining because the people on screen... look like real people. xD

Of all the competitiors I’ve seen this is the one that excites a lot of us the most. It looks really polished with build mode and live mode and life states. It is not just a sims clone, it has its own thing.

Bruh, I cannot stand seeing realistic mods in The Sims itself. I just find it very freaky, on how a sim and builds looks realistic but in a cartoony world. And seeing this, doesn’t really make me any better 😭
