The Toronto Maple Leafs have completely imploded during these NHL Playoffs. It started with William Nylander missing the first 3 games, then Mitch Marner having a terrible performance, Auston Matthews not finishing the 3rd period of a must win game all paired with questionable coaching and poor goal tending from Samsonov. It all lead to a moment where tempers boiled over on the bench in the 2nd period of last nights game against the Boston Bruins where Matthews showed his frustration and Nylander threw some jabs right back. What I believe the internet is getting wrong about this though, is what it is that Nylander actually said. I cover that and breakdown the entire game in todays NHL hockey video!

As a former goalie, I like to stick up for the netminders, no matter what team they play for and Samsonov is the least of the problems in TO. The Leafs have scored 1, 3, 2 and 1 goals in each game. Not surprisingly the only game they won was the 3 goal game, so how is this the goalies fault? He would have to have shut out the Bruins in game 1 to win, allowed only 1 goal in games 2 and 3 and only 2 goals last night. That doesn't sound very reasonable unless this is 1999 and your name is Hasek. Give the guy a break. You did make a good call on the evident ankle issue with Marner though. Anyone who has ever skated in their lives can see that he just didn't have any drive after making that turn and to me, that spells ankle sprain. He's a much better skater than that.
@heliumtrophy
@heliumtrophy 15 днів тому
They're crucifying the team from top to bottom but I think they overegg it on Samsonov. If the core can't/don't score, it's foolish to blame the goalie when the rest of the team in front die on the guy time and again.
@plushie946
@plushie946 15 днів тому
No, don't give the guy a break. Sometimes the team in front of you sucks. Doesn't mean you can just let in softies. In that last game if Sammy had played like an elite tier goalie it would have been 1-1. Absolutely still a massive issue with offense there but that gives them a way better shot at winning then letting in 2 softies. Why do so many sports fans insist upon only focusing on one issue at a time. The Leafs have problems almost everywhere. The offense is the primary problem. The defense actually has decent foundations but isn't coached well and a few guys have too much weight on their shoulders. But the goaltending is a serious problem. Sammy is inconsistent, not just between games but within games. I don't think he'll move to another team and suddenly be good again. He needs mental coaching and conditioning in the AHL. Either way he almost certainly played his last game as a Leaf so the discussion is irrelevant now.

he was horrible in game 3, 4 - the gapping 5 hole and all jvr could do was go to his backhand he was just getting pressured and no had forward momentum, that was really bad, then he got caught to hi up on the crease and failed to see the option of marchand wide open for a shot, gets caught way out of position, way too much, cant read plays, benoit his defensemen was also providing a semi good block as well on that shot so it would have been a good chance at the save if samsonov would have been in position, last goal was a tough one, all throughout this series hes been drastically outplayed by swayman, constantly gives up goals at end of periods or after leafs score, those are very important momentum goals, hes not been good sorry, weak goals in game 2 as well. gives up the first goal too much, which allows the Bruins to neutral zone trap the leafs and play a defensive style, bruins can score a lot easier than Leafs can on Swayman, thats for sure.

The worst game I saw was on a Sunday night on 4-28-2024. It was the Vancouver Canucks @ the Nashville where Nashville lost 4-3 in OT. Nashville played an a great game in the first two periods leading. There was great goaltending on from both goalies. Nashville was leading 3-1 with about 3 minutes left in the game when Vancouver decided to pull their goal tender for the extra attacker. It was this decision that made Nashville pay big time. In about 30ish seconds or more, the Canucks scored their first attacker goal leaving the score 3-2 with about 2 minutes and 49 seconds left to go in the third period. The second attacker goal came with just 8 seconds left in the third period tying the game at 3 which drove the game into overtime. Vancouver scored the winning goal with just 1:02 left in overtime. Now instead of Nashville winning this game and tying up the series at 2 games a piece, they are now down 3 games to 1. What a mind numbing game that was to watch. To add insult to injury, Vancouver's Brock Boeser last goal in that game turned out to be a hat trick.

American sports media isn't trying to figure out constantly if what they're saying is upsetting the players, they just say it as it is. Canadian media meanwhile says anything mildly controversial and suddenly there's a week long debate about whether or not that's okay. Leafs fans are the most ride or die there is. @quincyroach9829
@quincyroach9829 13 днів тому
Everyone needs to relax. Btw that was a very good lip reading and i think it was spot on. Marner wasn't the target, though he is frustrated. He's playing with knies and Tavares. Knies is good at chasing the puck down and playing physical, but Tavares tends to lose the puck when under pressure. If marner starts a play it pretty much ends there and he doesn't get the puck back. Or he gets double teamed when he pulls up in the offensive zone and has no passing options. This is the first year where 3 of the core 4 are dealing with something that affects the way they play. There are two things that can change going forward, coaching and the defensive core (some changes with the bottom 6 are epected). I don't expect Marner, Mathews, Nylander or Tavares to change next year. Realistically none can be moved and they all want to play for Tor. That's not a bad thing imo, though Tavares really isn't a 11million dollar player at this stage of his career. We get rid of any of these guys and they will win a cup with another team. How many times do we need to see that happen? However, Riely as the leafs number 1 defensman may be over, and the D core will have a total overhaul. We blame the forwards for not doing enough, but all the teams that win, have defense that are capable of handling the puck and shooting from the point and creating rebounds or scoring the occasional goal. Leafs for too many years rely on the forwards to do all the scoring and have been at the bottom of the league when it comes to offense from the D core and shots from the point. Riely shoots the most and that is hardly much compared to other teams. mcabe is just ok, but rarely hits the net. Brodie is really weak handling the puck, and it gets worse from there. Just look how often the D throw the puck back into the corner or pass up putting it on the net compared to boston. That's the reason our PP is so weak. We use an umbrella with no threat to shoot from the point. its just not effective and has been the same the past 8 years! Anyway, food for thought....

These last few years, though, it really seems like the majority of players are playing their own game. It's not a team effort. Matthews, Marner, and Tavares are guys that dont have that grit, in my opinion. They play a solo game and never really seem to be on the same page.

Nylander is a stud and is made to play in this city. Marner has no backbone and simply isn't made for the pressures of a city that LOVES it's hockey like Toronto.

The pathetic ineptitude of this franchise continues . Its so awesome to see.

When you realize the 2013 lineup that absolutely imploded against this same team STILL put up a better fight and effort against the bruins than this lineup ever has the last 8 years ☠️😭
