@@JesperMakes Love your work, just wanted to let you know that Kamikoto is NOT a Japanese Brand nor is it made of any kind of "Japanese Steel" 420J2 steel (Genten series) with a HRC of 53 +/-2 HRC (so 51-55 HRC) and their and SLD steel (Ganjo series) is basically D2 Tool Steel, with an HRC of 62+/-2 (60-64 HRC). Their Damascus is made from AUS-10, 67-layers "Damascus" with an HRC of (~)58... All around it's Crappy Steel and from the numbers it is not Heat Treated properly not to mention that they are mostly made ALL made in Yangjiang, China, and ONLY their Ganjo Series is made in Niigata Prefecture in Japan, "where blacksmithing can be traced back to before the Edo period" as they say on their Website...That's only WHERE it is Made, not how and by seeing the Quality myself, I wouldn't think that's something a Japanese Knifemaker (handmade they say...) would be happy to waste their lives making Crappy Knives for Fooling People who don't know any better...Not only that, they use JAPAN for Marketing purposes and that's pretty Disgusting. (Kind of like a "Made in U.S.A" product but made by Illegal Aliens IN the U.S.A...) Same thing with Huusk "Japan"...(the "Viking Kitchen Knife" you also see Sponsoring UKpostsrs...Again, NOT made in Japan, but China! And they are made from 18/10 Stainless Steel, the Very Best Steel to make Pots and Pans and other types of Cookware, but it's DEFINITELY NOT a Steel made for ANY Kind of Knife Use! Not in the least Suitable! I understand needing the money for the sponsorship but sometimes it Helps your own Subscribers get Scammed! I don't know why people don't just buy REAL Japanese knives made in Echizen, Sakai or Seki for the same or less. They are Available!
@JesperMakes
@JesperMakes 7 місяців тому
Appreciate the detailed info, really. The last thing I want is for my audience to get scammed. I'll definitely look more into the specs and origin of the products I showcase. I'm all about authenticity here. Got any suggestions for legit Japanese knife brands? 🪓☕

I hope you get to 1 million subscribers, I came across your videos a few days ago and I have been hooked on watching all of them. I absolutely love woodworking. I grew up watching my dad and grandfather building stuff from scrap wood and always loved the thought of creating furniture or anything from wood. I started using tools to build wooden fences at 16 but I later ended up becoming an electrician in my mid 20's and now I do electrical and telecom work but for the last 3-4 years, on my free time I try to build all of my furniture out of scrap pallets that I get from work. I love it I've been saving for my track saw and other wood tools, and one day I wish I could finally get to your and other woodworker's level of expertise that I see on UKposts. I am truly inspired by your story and it has sparked a fire in my soul that I could possibly make a wish and a dream become a reality and one day I could become such a woodworker like the rest of you in this community of woodworkers. I look forward to the ongoing inspiration that you deliver.

You've just made my life easier. I was in the process of making notes on the top videos playlist, and you went and put 'em all together for me here. Thankya, neighbor! 1. That first "not very good" video is one of the first of yours I watched, and I think it's pretty great (MUCH better than what I can do so far). 2. I think the "breaking down pallets" was actually the first (after finding @DainerMade's pallet breakdown video-thank you, sweet algorithm!). 3. That workbench will always blow my mind. Wooden art. Pure. Definitely not simple. 4. I bought a vise (still not set up) after seeing the europallet pull-apart technique you use. Smarter, not harder. 5. Have we had the appropriate moment of silence for the pallet-buster board (1 or 2) that ended up in the big workbench? 6. "Nail-free pallets"? Believe it or not: I've got a source for exactly that! Video pending ... 7. That adjustable-height, multi-faced, dogholed table was "just" a side-project, and it's genius (and beautiful). 8. I've got new mask filters, too, and forget to put it on most of the time. "I'll see myself out." (literally?) 9. Still can't believe that you included me me in that video. Thanks again for "being excellent" to me. "We're not worthy!" 10. I bought a dado stack (still not installed ... a theme is developing) because of the bench video. 11. I'm trying desperately to put off buying a jointer. 12. Math = Magic (this equation adds up to me) 13. I'm inspired by @MorleyKert, too! 14. @DainerMade made me want a de-nailing gun, too. 15. "Why not unite the whole world?" Exactly! 16. I can tell that I haven't been doing this stuff long enough because I don't yet hate sanding. 17. That slab matrix rig is amazing. 18. Juice groove cutting intimidates me. Someday ... 19. Mom is having a Maple tree taken down, so I'm planning to try some "cookie" projects. 20. The sun-and-sea table project is another early-watch video. Almost decided I should give up and sell all my tools. It's THAT good. 21. I've found some curb-alert chipboard, so herringbone projects are in the offing. 22. I've tried a burn finish. Fail! Good thing it was just an experiment. 23. The Hobbit-esque table is great! 24. Epoxy tragedy? Yes, that is my fear, especially since I'm not good yet at editing montage sequences. 25. I now know to save the spool bolts from the spool by my rv that is now too weather damaged to be turned into a vise-bench. 26. What is the technical name for the workbench leg tenons? Quarter-lap?! 27. Rest in Power: PALLET BUSTER boards! 28. You don't need me to tell you how beautiful those drawer-fronts are, right? 29. When I try my pallet block table, I _can_ miter saw them to uniform height with a stop block set-up, right? I don't have a flattening rig (or the work space for one) yet. 30. The music cue timing on the time-lapse is excellent. 31. I love seeing the "rubbish wood" come back to life. 32. I hadn't noticed the handmade bench dogs until this video. Very nice! 33. I forgot about the scraps for bonfire bit. I actually made a video I didn't post asking about "how scrappy is too scrappy to actually trash?" I've got my answer! 34. Shorts in tall grass?! Are there no ticks in Denmark? 35. I've got a chainsaw-mill rig. Haven't used it yet (yes, again). Hoping to harvest some walnut trees on a little piece of land I own. Not in the budget quite yet. 36. I showed Mom the bench video to explain what I want to try when her Maple tree is taken down. 37. This long vid is a great experiment! Do you get the same credit when I watch at 1.5 speed (and have UKposts Premium [no ads])? Cheers!
@JesperMakes
@JesperMakes 7 місяців тому
Hey Tim, Thanks for sticking around since that "not very good" video. We all start somewhere, right? Ah, the sweet algorithm! It's like a matchmaker for content creators and viewers. Wooden art is the best compliment for that workbench. Thanks! Smarter, not harder is the way to go. Glad the vise idea resonated with you. A moment of silence for the pallet-buster board. 🙏 Nail-free pallets - loved that video! Side projects sometimes turn out to be the best ones. Safety first, always! But yeah, I forget sometimes too. You're absolutely worthy! And thanks for being a part of this community. Dado stacks are game changers. You'll love it. Jointers are tempting, aren't they? Math = Magic. Couldn't agree more. @MorleyKert is a legend! De-nailing guns are a blessing. Uniting the world, one project at a time. Ah, the innocence before the sanding hatred sets in. 😂 Thanks! That slab matrix rig is awesome. Juice grooves can be intimidating, but practice makes perfect. Maple "cookie" projects sound delicious... I mean, delightful! Never give up! Every project is a learning experience. Herringbone is such a classic look. Burn finishes can be tricky, but keep experimenting. Thanks! I loved making that Hobbit table. Epoxy can be unpredictable, but that's part of the fun. Saving spool bolts is a smart move. Yep, they're called quarter-lap joints! RIP PALLET BUSTER boards. They served us well. Thanks! Those drawer-fronts were a labor of love. Yep, a miter saw with a stop block will do the trick. Music timing is crucial. Glad you noticed! Bringing "rubbish wood" back to life is so satisfying. Handmade bench dogs are a fun little detail. Scrappy wood has its charm. Luckily, ticks aren't a big issue here in Denmark. Chainsaw-mill rigs are awesome. Good luck with the walnut trees! Glad your mom liked the bench video. Watching at 1.5 speed is a time-saver. As for UKposts Premium, it's a bit complicated, but creators do get compensated. Thanks for the detailed feedback, Tim. It's always great to hear from you. And remember, Coffee Solves Everything! Cheers! 🍵

You know, I just had a thought. I’ve just discovered your channel. My father probably makes most of your other mates here look like novices. My father is a Master Craftsman Carpenter and one of few left in the world of his caliber. He rebuilt the Red Bridge and The Zig Zag Bridges in the Memphis Botanical Gardens. He worked for DisneyWorld and not only rebuilt the Old Train Station, and a lot of interior work at their world resort. He built many cabins and houses and even put up SkyScrapers in Houston. It’s an art form that is being killed off by the DIY generation, but the point is my father is in Somerville Tennessee and he has a huge workshop, and he even bends his own wood, and my idea is that maybe you could do some videos with my father and learn some techniques from him. Maybe it would be mutually beneficial, and keep the Art alive. His name is Conrad Vincent. Maybe he could learn something from you. He never filmed his work, but maybe he should have. He just built some beautiful nailless windows for a Gentleman in Tennessee. Another quick story. My father used to work with another Master Craftsman named Charlie Mix. That name may or may not sound familiar to you, but his Grandfather was a Silent Movie star named Tom Mix. Tom Mix is mentioned in the movie “Tombstone” as he was the one who they say Wept at Wyatt Earp’s funeral. My father even took care of Charlie once when he was ill. But he passed away a few years ago, and was another artist gone now. Charlie used to brag on my father, and tell him he was the best. My father thought Charlie was one of the best. You can definitely learn some cool stuff from my father. ✌🏻

Wow, your father's resume sounds absolutely legendary. I would be honored to learn from a master like him. A collaboration sounds like a fantastic idea to keep the craft alive and kicking. Conrad Vincent, eh? Good storytelling runs in the family it seems!

I talked to him a little while ago. He seems interested, and wants to do something with his spare time. He became a widower unfortunately earlier this year and then the strangest thing happened. My mother moved in with my father. They divorced in 1973. Head scratcher for sure. But my father is a good man. Anyway He has tables for bending wood and builds most of his own router tables etc, and he thought about learning to build boats. I know the Danish have a tradition of Boat and Ship building, I’m not sure you could do that from palettes but that would be awesome. Anyway he’s interested. I know you’re not in America, so I’m not sure what we can do to make this a reality?

That's an incredible family story and the setup your father has sounds like a craftsman's dream. The bending tables and DIY router tables piqued my interest, and boat building would be an amazing chapter to delve into. The whole Danish boat tradition you mentioned got me thinking, too. That said, while I'm genuinely honored by the idea, I'm currently fully booked with my own projects and commitments here in Denmark. It's a tough decision, but I'll have to pass on this incredible opportunity for now. Your father's craftsmanship truly deserves to be showcased. Ever thought about starting a channel for him? Could be a great way to carry on the tradition and wisdom he's got. Coffee solves everything, even the distance between Tennessee and Denmark. ☕ Cheers!

Your ability to make something out of nothing is astounding. I hope you never stop your imagination from leading. I can't think of a single part that I loved the most. I couldn't stop watching. and wondering what you were up to. I loved the little table you put out next to the sea. The blue epoxy one.
