That’s extreme. I was raised like that and became extremely sneaky and because I had nothing to do all day, I matured quickly at 12 and started being “fast” and sneaking out. Yeah, my parents were like this, except they never gave me a reason beyond ‘you’re too young and the internet is a bad place’. They were tech savvy or interested in learning either, so I happily used whatever site or app I wanted ever since I was 10. Oh the other hand I have friends whose parents also were strict about SM in varying degrees but openly spoke to their kids as to why, and while not all of them abstained from SM, they were definitely more cautious and stayed much safer than me.

Did you pay attention to what he said and didn't say? Personally I think TikTok is stupid. I've seen ads and I have no interest in downloading it. That being said, I found nothing in his hours of testimony to make me less concerned much less like the leadership. He needed to press one thing and one thing only. That he was not a pawn of the Chinese government and TikTok was not and never would be a threat to the American public. Not only did he not say that, his half answers were enough to get me concerned where I was not before.

If TikTok was to be banned in the US, stocks for Meta & Google would rise like crazy making these politicians very rich. FYI, He is not Chinese and he is from Singapore where English is official language. Every transfer Singapore students I encountered back to my years in Peking University, all speak perfectly English.
