The song is from the 1920s but became popular during WW2 and comforted people during this horrible time. That‘s why you hear gunfire imo

It is an old hit song from the 1920's. Lindemann's is a darker version of it. The song and lyrics deal with being remembered after death and looking forward to the last days of life.

No the song is from 1935 just when Nazis took over germany. It from Marlene Diertich. 3 years before WW2 begun.

@@onepunchvegan866 ..... aaaahhhh I can remember when I was a young boy - my mother had a record-player and many records. I could cry when I think about that she´s thrown the records and the record player into the rubbish bin. The records were shellack-records!!!! Hohe Tannen - and so on!

Every day is no Sunday" is probably an East Prussian folk song that first appeared in print in 1924. The text is often attributed to Carl Ferdinand, who took over the first stanza of the folk song and then rewrote the 2nd and 3rd stanza. The composition is often attributed to Carl Clewing, but in the song collection "Alpenrose" and also in "Deutschlands Liederschatz", both from 1924, the song is said to have been handed down orally. A four-stanza version was written in Krummau (today the Czech Republic)

There's a lot to take in in this video. As you see the start and end of the video is in colour, the rest is black and white. This could be his drug trip essentially from injecting himself at the start. Maybe having the thought of killing himself to be withfriends/family who are no longer alive. Obviously there has got to be some sort of symbolism in the puppet. The puppet gets some "freedom" if only for a little while but in the end it just loops around again and Till is drinking again with the puppet. Maybe some sort of metaphor for depression perhaps. Lot to take in

This video goes over the head of 90% of people I've seen react to it. Most give a wtf and give no opinion or even laugh, which none of it is meant for comical effect at all. So glad you atleast put some thoughts together on it. It's very artistic and "art house like" so it's lost to most people I'd say

Quite a melancholy but beautiful song, and David Garrett is a joy to listen to playing his sublime Stradivarius “A. Busch”. You should check out more of his work guys if you're not familiar. He's one of the greatest contemporary classical crossover violinists. A child prodigy, and close friend of Till. Great reaction, I made the same faces as Chel when I watched it first time lol

So the title, in English, is "Not all days are a Sunday". The lyrics are basically someone asking a loved one to remember them when they're gone, but to not cry for them. As many have already stated, the song is from the 1920's. David's makeup is very reminiscent of the German Expressionism movement, specifically "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari". (There's a fantastic documentary on yt about the movement called "The Haunted Screen" if anyone wants to learn more.) The visual distortions and unnerving atmosphere are, imo, a brilliant shoutout to that era of film, especially as it connects to the song itself (German expressionism peaked at around the same time the original version of this song was released.) Both have an underlying sadness to them that Till and David did a fantastic job or recreating, in both the music itself and the video.

Groundhog day for depressive people. Or rather, how they feel. Unable to cope with their losses and setbacks, numb themselves throughout the day with drugs to indulge in their hallucinations in order to repeat all this again and again. Great reaction and also very well grasped the meaning.

I'm so glad you liked the song and the video... I just knew you would! I love the depth in it. I find it to be such a moving piece of music and performance, and Till's character... you can really feel the pain that he's going through and how he's trying to compensate by doing the drugs and booze. Mat, you were spot on with your interpretation and is very close to how I interpreted it. Very well done! I was really lost with what the puppet meant, though. Now I think that maybe the puppet represents his freedom when he passes out, how happy he is being with all the people he loves and has lost. When he finally wakes up, he's like the puppet again, with the strings of despair holding him back, pulling him back into his pain. But, you're right, there is such depth in this performance. Till's mind is a wonderful creation, how he comes up with the ideas and the poetry that he creates. He really astounds me and I love how he expresses his versatility with his art and his voice. Anyway, thanks for the reaction and keep up the good work! Love you guys!

Btw. I think you guys should FINALLY check out Emigrate, because Richard has been posting some teasers on his social media, so it'd be great if you'd finally check out some of his work. I'd say a good start would be the song "Eat You Alive". It's from their 2014 Album Silent So Long, and is a very fun song, with a great video. Music Video for that btw. Was directed by the same guy as this video, Zoran Bihac. Who actually made a cameo apperance in this video, he was the grey haired man, sitting infront of the counter drinking wine(I guess?), with the woman on his lap. He was also the one that directed Till The End, Platz Eins, Ach So Gern, Steh Auf, Praise Abort, Fish On and some of Rammstein's Videos as well, like Links 2 3 4, Rosenrot & Mein Teil.

I had the same reencounter with loved ones interpretation. Plus the end of the video looks like it loops back to the beginning, right after some girls hang themeselves (again?). I see that as a recycling trauma, which will make him have whatever his drug was and the drink again. Whatever. Thanks for this reaction, I remember some drunk guy requesting this in one of your live streams.

For us this video and song has a very deep meaning. We have been diagnosed with DID for 4 years. Dissociative Identity Disorder. We are a system of 7 Alters. One of us faced alcohol addiction over witnessing the death of our GF. He said watching this was what it was like in a way from his perspective when we all became aware of each other and our system.

Mat, your theory is very good. This is an old German song, old people sang on gatherings when I was young (They always used to sing along, they had no spotify). I knew the lyrics, but I guess I never really listened to them. Until now! Like it a lot. If you guys are interested in some "artsy but you can listen to it" kind of music, I have some recommendations: "Sabrina" from "Einstürzende Neubauten" = collapsing new buildings, in English. "The cold song" from Klaus Nomi & David Bowie, kind of opera-ish. OK, I see you guys are raising eyebrows, hum. Remember LINDEMANN's Mathematik? The rapper next to him is "Haftbefehl" = "Arrest Warrant". His song "069" is an absolute banger. A BANGER! I like your videos a lot, especially your sense of humor. Wish I could buy me some.

It makes better sense in conjunction with Zeit. The longing for time going back, for a real-life Restore or Undo button. The dream that a beautiful German song can make it undone, that those hanged people -- Germans, Poles, Jews, Soviets -- are alive again, and WWII had never happened... But it had, and even if Till actually had hanged himself, WWII would not be undone.

The cover of this single depicts the coronavirus. It puts the historical context, which so many have explained here so well already (Spanish flu and wartime comfort song of the people from the 1920s onwards), into the context of the pandemic. It's basically a tribute to all our dead loved ones and a reminder that we need to deal with the pandemic. It also gives voice to the fact that many many people are currently severely depressed, be it from measures of pandemic control or loss, and we lose many of them to suicide, unfortunately. The video shows Till as the last one remaining in a time of loss, drugging himself and playing as he did before for his lost loved ones. He can only find short relief in his hallucinations of them during the performance. Once the trip ends he shoots up again to reach them just one more time, again and again. Basically: He gives in to his feelings of grief in the video, opposed to what the song asks of the listener 'don't cry when I'm gone, remember me fondly'.
