Рік томуWe are building a Luxury Airbnb Cabin in the Woods on our 10 acres of land. This is 1 year Timelapse of our Airbnb Cabin Build. The goal is to create a Short-Term rental business on our land.
50% of the build were done by contractors and 50% done by us, including family and friends.
In November, 2021. My wife and I bought 10 acres of raw land in Missouri. We are excited to share our journey and figure things out together. We are very new at this and we are learning everything for the first time. We are building a Luxury Airbnb Cabin in the Woods!

Using concrete is the only way to go. Everyone I know that used wood had to replace it within 20 years. I built a place using well casing and welding cross bracing.

I love Pier and Beam foundations, but they often require a very deep dig, a lot of rebar, and ideally a flared out footer. I'm not seeing any of that here, which I suspect is the reason for your comment. All of the above is to prevent: Frost heave (lifting), settling (sinking), and cracks/structural failure (breaking).

Reading the comments, I’d hate to say anything but something positive. Because it looks beautiful. But having a 25 year background in framing and roofing. As soon as I saw those shingles go on my heart skipped a beat. As long as you’re in a climate, that gets zero snow, you may be fine. But there’s not enough pitch for shingles. You should’ve went with metal for sure. One ice dam or heavy rain. God forbid there’s any nails in the slots. If you ever do another Airbnb, do metal, unless you have a good pitch on the roof. I’ll give it 3 years before you’re fixing leaks on that ceiling and re-doing it completely.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. But I assure you shingles was not part of the plan. It was a last minute decision we had to make because the metal roof shipment was canceled during the build. Before the cabin opens for business, we will install metal roofing. Thank you for watching. 😊👍

if there peofessional contractors .they need to go back to school .shingles can not be used on a slope foof less then 3/12.joist hangers are absolute code and must be used an all joist and beams and the way the loft floor was hung from the wall will never pass code any were in north america. this cabin will twist / move and be falling bown in 15 years

I can see that the 'walls' do not weight bear, it's the cross-pieces in the floors that do. Flimsy to my way of thinking. Also see why people refer to 'siding' and not to walls, because basically there aren't any, rather it's a shell to which 'siding' is attached

I would be very concerned with both snow and wind loading with the flat roof. Also, the lack of outside vapour barrier wrapping of the external walls and floors may well affect the heating bill bottom line of this place depending on how severe your Winters are ? I would also think this building's shape will cause excessive movement in any high wind situation above 65 Miles Per Hour in gusts ? Can't honestly say I'm diggin' the basic house design shape. I do really like the concrete pillar support platform approach in lieu of a full basement concrete foundation poor. I'm sure going this direction saved you folks thousands in overall construction costs and materials.

Thank you i appreciate all your great points. This cabin was designed around our likes and vision. Obviously it’s not perfect. But we are definitely looking into everyone’s expert opinions and advices to improve the cabin. But overall all we are very happy with this design and we can’t wait to finish it. 😊👍

Shingles on that low slope roof is going to be a problem. Especially without the addition of roofing felt or synthetic wrap. Zip board is a great system, but with a low slope roof you need all the protection you can get. At lease you can tin over it if leaks appear. Just use full length sheets of steel, don’t piece it together. Otherwise I like the cabin!

why would you use asphault shingles on such a small pitch, they arent dewsigned for under a 4 or 5 pitch, should have been rubber

I assure you shingles was not part of the plan. It was a last-minute decision because our metal roof got delayed by six months so I couldn’t have just sheeting sitting in the Missouri weather. Metal roof will be installed this summer. Thanks for input. 😊👍
