As an 80 yr. old woman who lives in Southern Vermont and just went through a pretty severe snowstorm 10 days ago (23” total snowfall) with 3 days of no power-no phone, I was pretty excited to see this video. The downside is my worry of those horrid dark, cloudy days without sun. I’m afraid of the big, giant gas generators. But, this is something to really investigate as an answer to the power-outage problems of bad, bad weather. (The other thing for me to investigate is becoming a “snowbird” & not participating in this winter nonsense at all!!😂) Love all your videos through the years, BTW👌)

Thanks so much for this comment! I think a solar generator or large battery bank would be a great option for you. Just keep it charged from the wall, when you do have power!

I know exactly what storm you're talking about. My friend and I drove 3 hours into the storm heading south back home into Massachusetts. I heard some places hardly got anything and then the next town over got dumped on.

@@Tylnorton True story… I live in Chester, along the Connecticut River. I swear we get the very worst of whatever snowfall happens everywhere else in Vermont. Hope you were safe & sound in your travels. Three days without power along with the AT&T tower knocked out (which, of course is my carrier😜), is not my idea of “off grid” living for this old lady…
@Tylnorton

@@suemcknight9051 We made it home and sound! Vermont is very nice! I am glad you were safe even with the power down with the AT&T tower too. May the better days ahead be with you for the better with Spring!

I totally understand and went through the same concerns. I invested in something called an inverter generator which is what you need to recharge your solar generator when it’s more than a day or two of poor solar. You will have to store gasoline and rotate it and run the small generator every month to keep it running, but it is the only way to keep yourself charged up when the solar isn’t great. I love my solar generators which I have as emergency backup power, but I still use them every month to fully understand what they can and can’t do and so I’m not flustered keeping things running in a real outage. I’ve had a couple of short term outages since getting into this type of power, and they are absolutely amazing. When you have good solar conditions, they run perfectly but the least little bit of cloud cover kills performance so the inverter gas generator is necessary for a longer outage situation. Unfortunately.

I love my little jackery that I use for camping or emergency reasons. I got the solar panel# but I’ve not used them yet to recharge cuz I always seem to camp in the shade. But I’ve camped for three days in the heat and used my little one to recharge my phon3 and iPad and to run a fan if the temps got too warm for comfort. Thanks for reviewing their new mega sized battery.

Great way to aim the panels at the sun is to use a soup can. Place it on the panels standing up and move the panels until there is no shadow on the panel from the sun. That is all that it takes. Check your manual, some batteries don't like to be stored at 100%. 40 to 60% is best and then charge it when you feel that you may need it.

PURE SINE WAVE! Thank You folks, I hate monday moron Qbacks but I have to be one here, Sorry. The greatest selling point no one mentions is the PURE SINE WAVE technology. Standard generators and back up power systems have erratic power output. This erratic electrical signal can damage today's HI tech electronics. Pure Sine Wave output sources are the cleanest electricity and even better then the "grid"! If I traveled in something bigger then my motorcycle I would buy a Jackery system just for this protection of all my electrical items. Thank You so much for the endorsement of this product. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

I just want to point out that an EV can also be used quite comfortably to maintain power in a blackout situation and might be a great alternative for places where you regularly have a power source to keep one charged. Technology Connections here on YT has a video about using an EV to power essentials for easily over 24 hours on their Connextras channel.
