Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?

For some reason, the high up shots of the aircraft over the earth are just so beautiful and moving as is the music

I'm not a rocket scientist or anything, but I'm pretty sure ejecting from a jet going Mach 10 would fertilize your body across four counties.

"He's the fastest man alive" combined with the piano, the space shots, and "Talk to me Goose" is so fucking uplifting ...my favorite scene in the film.

The sound was MASSIVE in the theater. What a great scene to start the movie. Loved it.

I like how he says “talk to me goose”, implying he’s flying on the very edge of death, close enough to speak to him

"Talk to me, Goose." That soft-spoken line, coupled with the music and incredible visuals in this scene, gives me chills every time.

Can we just appreciate the Brilliance that is Ed Harris? The man still looks like he did in The Rock 30 years ago!

Once he hit 10.0 you know he’s gonna push it….you know he’s gonna blow up the jet….but the film does such a good job in managing expectations while delivering basic story elements so effortlessly.

This scene is absolutely beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes in the theater

"Talk to me Goose/Dad" will never not be emotional. for someone who wasn't alive for the first movie, it means so much to hear those 4 words and how much influence he had on Maverick and Rooster

Reminds me of reading an article about the SR-71. One of the pilots said while flying north toward Canada they watched the sun set on their left. Then they turned left and were going so fast they literally watched the sun rise in the west, over the Pacific Ocean.

2:40 "Put that in your Pentagon Budget !! Sir " was the best part of the Scene.

The cameraman up there keeping up with the plane at Mach 10, what a legend. And whatever cameras they had mounted to the exterior of the plane without them being completely vaporized, absolute mad lads.

Rear Admiral Cain showing concern and disbelief on his face when Maverick's ride ends is such a great detail in this scene. He needs to be in control of the situation and an intimidating presence in the room, but just below the surface wants the best for his pilot and for him to succeed.

I love the homage to Skunkworks. U2, the Blackbird, tons of other projects we'll probably never know about. Kelly Johnson and the folks in his lab are scary brilliant.

This is why I love this movie. This whole sequence is laughably absurd but it doesn't care. Just putting on a good show for all of us. Perfect blockbuster

Was just a flawless and epic scene. whoever missed this scene on the big screen missed one of the greatest moments ever.

Idk what I like more. The scenes of the plane speeding, engines roaring in full glory or the shot of the wreckage painting the sky like an asteroid cluster

I wish i could have seen this movie in the theater. It gives me chills when Maverick says 'Talk to me, Goose'. This movie is the definition of a masterpiece and I tip my hat to everyone that made it possible! Since purchasing this I must have watched it 20 times and it has yet to get old.

I love the fact that Hondo knows Maverick well enough to know that he'll push it when he shouldn't.

The music in this scene is second to none. It’s absolutely incredible. Tbh the entire film is the one. It’s perfect.

The higher up in the atmosphere, the less dense the air becomes. So once he gets up near space there would not be as much turbulence. Still the best movie of the year.

This sequence set the tone. Watching this in imax4d with the seats moving and vibrating really teleported you into the movie instantly. I really wish i could experience watching this movie for the first time again.

At Mach 10: "He's the fastest man alive." Every astronaut who's been to the ISS has traveled at Mach ((orbital velocity)/(speed of sound)) = 18,000 mph/740 mph = Mach 24.

If he did not blow the jet, he's no longer Maverick. That's why we love Top Gun.

The soundscore of just this scene is astounding. If you have a good surround sound setup, the low growl hits from the floor to ceiling. Phenemenal scene.

Flying at that speed, looking at the sunset, with that background music and saying 'Talk to me Goose' is a priceless scene.

imagine ejecting at mach 10 - it would be like entering the event horizon of a black hole! your head would be 30 miles behind you before the rest of your body made it out

Crazy to think that at Mach 10, you would be able to circumnavigate the earth in a little over 3 hours (if you're able to maintain Mach 10 or 12,348 km/h, that is). It took the explorer Magellan and his crew over 3 years in the 16th century to complete the first circumnavigation by sea.

The admiral might hate his guts, but he still shows concern for his safety when they think he just died. I absolutely love his delivery of the line "and despite your best efforts you REFUSE to die" in the next scene.

People: that's impossible, Mach 10 in the stratosphere and a bail out would kill you Tom Cruise : I missed the part where that's my problem

To be honest if a jet like this ever existed, I can easily imagine Tom Cruise being the one to fly it...

3:42 You see this? It's so magical, it looks like some meteor breaking up to pieces, it's like something alien, something stellar, but it's not. That thing in the sky is man made, and manhandled by a human being. But same as the astronomical sight, it was also an astonishing effort by the pilot.

Guys in room: sweet he hit mach 10 and saved our jobs. Also guys in room: you destroyed our only multi-billion dollar aircraft and now the program is canceled.

3:31 Awesome scene , a 10-score, for sure. Mav likely survived his insane need for speed by ejecting - or rather separating - the cockpit portion of the plane. Notice how he rapidly pulls all the way back on those side controls before all contact is lost. At that moment, the monitors go black at Mach 10.4. Hmm...10-4 is code for I'm ok, no assistance required, etc. Just a theory, of course. But ejecting at hypersonic speeds obviously puts horrific stress on a body (think heat/fire, air pressure, flying debris...). Best chance for pilot survival is inside an escape pod, like others have suggested.

So interestingly enough, something very similar to this actually happened in real life. SR-71 broke up over Mach 3, and one of the pilot survived. Took the guy a while to come to terms with the fact that he wasn't dead because he knew no one could have survived that. It's an incredible story if you are into that kind of thing.

I like how they gave him hell for flying the f-18 to hard on that demo run saying it wasn’t “airworthy” anymore yet he wrecks a experimental plane which would probably be 900 billion dollars and never got one word said to him about it

Man, I remember being in the theater and when the score crescendos at 1:10 and just thinking “oh shit, now we’re watching a movie.” It was such an awesome moment, totally unexpected from a summer action movie. I knew from that moment that this would be a special movie.

I love how everyone just decides to go through with Mav's troll.

People don't believe we've been to the moon but what they fail to realize is that all the astronauts of that period were pilots with the same skill as mavrick if not far more. They all had balls.

This is one of the best sequels ever made. I had high suspicion for such a delayed release. I honestly cried in the cinema when he said “talk to Goose”.

The music when he says “talk to me goose” is so sad yet so nostalgic!

Just noticed (4th or 5th watch of the movie) at the very end of the scene when the engine has an unstart, the next frame is inside cockpit and you can see maverick's head hit the side, similar to what happened to the SR-71 pilots when an unexpected unstart occurred. The detail in this movie is outrageous. What a masterpiece.

I love the sound of the engines railing at the incredible speed!

This is so damn good, the last time I remember a cinematic moment in the sky as good as this one is in Superman (2013) when he was flying the first time.

I like how they made the Darkstar sound like it is screaming as it approaches then exceeds Mach 10.

When he said "talk to me goose" and later on shouted "come on" . . . Was at the edge of the seat, it reminded me Jeremy from Top Gear when he pushed the Lamborghini to it's limit at imola race track when he went flat out shouting "come on! You can do this" and the mighty flat crack V12 raging bull Lambo was spitting flames 🔥. It's amazing and gives goosebumps to see someone performing from the bottom of their heart giving their all, fully present and oozing passion when doing something.

When I first watched this movie in theaters I assumed that this would be the final plot. Like in order to prevent anyone else from going on the mission, Mav would do a final suicide run in a remade Darkstar and be reunited with Goose during the mission, to see him in his final moments.

1:18 this is how you make men in their late 30s or older cry. I welled up watching this in the cinema as a borderline obsessed Top Gun fan and in my late 30s. The pure nostalgia, the music, the fact that this film had been made. Ugh, it's just so good.

My opinion: The next scene, when he walks into the diner, that is the best in the movie.

This movie made everything I was addicted to in terms of military aviation and technology during my childhood and teen years cool just one more time Everyone who made this movie I can't thank you enough.
