Me neither, but I realize now the reason I never cared for rap was because I hated all the mumbling cursing and boring talk of cash money cars drugs and girls and I didn't want my kids listening to it. I actually do like rap, it was just bad rap. This is real rap. Rap was created to tell stories, Express something meaningful, and teach us and make us feel something look into ourselves like Tom does. He's one in a million. I hope he sparks a movement honest talented rappers who do independent just like he did.

I was thinking the same. Pink Floyd were another "speak-up-to-power" band with their "Wish You Were Here" album that mocked the Recording Industry and "The Wall" album that mocked the stuffy old British education system and establishment...and of course "The Sex Pistols", but even they weren't as meaty as Tom's word craftsmanship. Nova's film expertise and creativity is a huge asset when combined with Tom's unique talents. These guys know what they are doing. They have masses of talent and know how to use it fearlessly for the greater good. For some reason I also get a strong whiff of Bowie wafting overhead. I think that there's more than a glimmer of Bowie's theatrical influence upon a lot of Tom's videos. But this is something glimmering more intensely than Ziggy Stardust. Bowie never pushed the lyrical boundaries too far. I guess that's where the Dylan comparison comes in, although I've heard Dylan say in an interview that he didn't write songs particularly focused at being anti-establishment. He just wrote songs and people interpreted them that way. They appropriated his music to be a part of the background tapestry of the hippie and other movements of the era. Most especially "Times They Are a Changing." which was practically the unofficial anthem of the period. Not sure what Tom's approach is but it's potent and bolder and braver than Dylan ever was. He says what the non-racist under privilege white working class people want to but feel they can’t. My Dylan comparison was less in context of “anti establishment” and more his powerful and poetic use of language and his social/political commentary. You’re right with the sex pistols likeness Tom is a lot more blatant like they were and more lol. Dylan hid his meaning in metaphors and suggestion. I pretty much lost interest in Hip Hop in 2005 i felt the best of it had passed. Then I found Tom and he gave us a great genre of music from a whole new perspective. Genius in his own right I’m sure we can agree. Despite the many possible comparisons of people before him he is the first and only Tom McDonald a true and Legitimate rap legend.

Even now, I can see Eminem still show a bit of that old talent here or there. But it's been a long time since he's put out an entire album of consistently great tracks. It's like he's made enough money now and doesn't care any more, or being in the mainstream industry for so long has pretty much sapped all his spirit out of him. Like when he wrote the Killshot diss on MGK, I thought that was straight fire. And it's like when something lights a fire under his ass he can put together something great. But he just isn't inspired any more in my eyes.
