My son never cared or even thought about the color of someone's skin until they taught him that in school. Actual truth though. 💯

Same with my youngest, she never saw people as different because of their skin color until her school started talking about racism and BLM.....she’s in 2nd grade. Her best friend is black and likes her because they had fun on the playground, she thought nothing about them looking different.

Mine didn't either. I live one of the most culturally diverse places and they learned that hate from school. Thankfully, I raised them well enough to ignore the shit they hear and be strong enough that they can like people for who they truly are. We all bleed the same at the end of the day.

I love that Tom has the mental space to give the lead in saying its edgy and controversial; allows them to hear the song before comiting to filming the video and after letting them hear the song, he pauses and asks if everyone is okay and when someone had questions out of it, it brought on a civil discussion on the context of the song and why he wrote it the way he did and Tom didn't gloss over it with a generic response and actually engaged. That mental ability shows in the way he writes his music and its fantastic.

Yeah, what he said about that surprised me, I just never thought about it that way. I'm not pro-prejudice, I think it doesn't solve any problems, probably perpetuates more than a few problems in fact. But what he said was eye-opening. Puts things in a different light I guess.

It goes one way more than the other according to statistics, prison population and just average knowledge and not lying to themselves.... And the one way it really goes in this country is not the way the mainstream says it does!!! .... Their hate against us FAAAR exceeds ours to theirs!! And it's nobody's fault but their own because of the environment they created through rap mainly and victimhood ... That does such an Injustice to them and to the country because we've came a long way and instead of calling them victims all the time they should be hearing about how much they've overcame BECAUSE of the laws of this country and the people who ran it!! No other color fought a war to end slavery but EVERY color participated in it and some still do!!!

Unfortunately it isn't 1%. The majority of people get their information from mainstream media, out of this majority a few will be passive while others active. Although the active will speak out and be the "audible" in this scenario, the other ones still perpetuate reactively or passively by supporting these groups. So it's not as simple as 1% 99%. If it was, Trump would have won the second time or at least the voting discrepancies and concerns of half the electorate wouldn't have been dismissed.

Hate will never end while people feel inadequate and create mechanisms to put others down to feel temporary relief, color or race is irrelevant...it's all at an egoistic level...there's a theory in CBT that when people don't get what they expect it creates anger and upset...that's what privilege is...people expect an outcome and it doesn't happen and they are hurt it didn't...take a meal of plain bread and milk and offer it to a starving person in a slum, overjoyed, give to another who is affluent, disgusted...Throw a surprise party for your friend and it's all amazing, plan it with them and this or that isn't right....as long as people stack expectations on themselves and others, they will lack identity, and will feel inadequate, and expectations grow, then hate will continue...it's unfortunate.

Rapper Ice-T said in a interview that racism isn't something you're born with, it's something that is taught. If you saw three kids playing in a sandbox, one white, one black and one asian. Everything would be fine until one of the parents pulls their kid out of the sandbox and tells the kid that something is wrong with the other kids. That's where it begins and it will only end if we choose to end it by teaching others that we all different and there's nothing wrong with that. #increasethepeace Stop fearing and start learning

I would use your analogy of seeing three kids playing in a sandbox, one white, one black and one asian. If they were all boys and I was Jewish, Muslim or Christian I would say "there's Japeth, Ham and Shem respectively, Noah's three sons". They're all brothers. If I was an anthropologist or believed in evolution, I would say, "ok, he came from a cold dim world background, he came from a hot bright background, and he came from somewhere in the middle, respectively, but if you go 100,000 to 200,000 years back through the mother or the father, they all came from the same male ancestor and female ancestor, call them Adam and Eve, or Y-Chromosomal Adam and Mitochondria Eve, we're all family. So why the hell are some people behaving if they're Cain and Abel? Even the Muslims, Jews and Christians and Bahais all came from sons of Abraham, Jews and Christians from Isaac, Muslims and Bahais from Ishmael. They're freaking brothers, there's no need to fight in the sandpit over who got there first. Ok, maybe if you were having a race, just playing that's ok. But you're brothers, learn to share and get on well with each other, cover each other's back. We're all one family, and whether you're Egyptian, Greek, Indian, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Communist, Capitalist, Religious, Atheist, Black, Conservative, Progressive, Rich, Poor, Middle, White, Queer (LGBTQIAP), Straight, Christian, Muslim, Bahai, Scientologist, New Age, agnostic or believe in UFOs, we all are taught the same rule: "Do onto others what you would have them do onto you." I respect you, you respect me.
@MDBowron
@MDBowron 5 років тому
@First Last people may have been wary of other people who looked different, be they a different ethnicity, or race, or even species. At one point in time there were several different types of humans, sapiens being just one of them. These people may have lived there for a long time and were quite territorial, so as soon as someone who looks different from your people arrives, trying to take your land, then anyone who looks different is treated at least as suspect. The idea that people are different in nature due to appearance is based around a survival mechanism, if it looks new or different be afraid of it, it might just try to kill you. This may have ultimately won out, as neanderthals, homo erectus, homo denisovan and homo florensis all died out leaving only homo sapiens. These survival mechanisms between humans who looked different may have lived on leading to prejudice against even other sapiens who looked different due to the amount of melanin in their hair, and the fact that most tribal societies were territorial and quite violent. Now some have said that perhaps race is influenced not only by climate that influences the amount of melanin they create, some think some sapiens may have even interbred with neanderthals, denisovans and erectus, but whether that leads to a definite change of race is still a controversial topic.

Tom Macdonald is a walking metaphor y’all. What would you think, walking down the street, and meeting up with his tatted & pierced face? Would you be afraid? Would you assume he didn’t want to have a job like everyone else? I can’t lie. I would. But at the same time, you hear him in something like this and you’re able to see that he’s perfectly normal. He’s a hard working guy that cares for the feelings of others, but needs to get a message out there. Now, flip that whole thing to skin color. I know it’s a common misconception that white people (overall) think the same thing about other races when they meet on the street. White women clutch their purse, lock their doors or have their fingers on the speed dial for 911. I’m sure that happens, but as unbelievable as it may sound; I’ve never seen that done, or done it myself and I’m in the south. I’ve read it in comments, and I realize that rumor is always based in some type of fact. Other races might feel some type of way toward each other. Stereotypes I guess. But, isn’t his appearance enough to make us ALL question preconceived notions? I don’t mean full blown racism, but prejudices and bias. Idk if I mean Tom is a walking metaphor, or analogy. But I’m sure y’all know what I mean lol

does talent have a target demographic? I'm pretty similar stats to you on paper educationally (MS) and otherwise and work in a professional field. I grew up in appalachia in the 80s and 90s and nobody around me cared about skin color growing up, we just saw people as people and friends were friends, we weren't taught to divide ourselves or be suspicious of one another. Probably greater than half of my early idols were different ethnicities (Michael jackson, michael jordan, shaq,etc). Grew up listening to rock but also RATM, Nas, Tupac, Wu Tang, Hendrix. Culturally during that time we were growing up cultures were converging, music was converging. We had the rock rap stuff starting, aerosmith with Run DMC, Onyx with Anthrax, Linkin Park with Jay Z , sevendust, kid rock (rapping cowboys). The culture we grew up with was pretty diverse in every way unless you were very very sheltered. Its the media that wants to push demographics and stereotyping. I graduated from an HBCU and many of my friends had different skin colors or backgrounds. The media would call us racists, uneducated and deplorables to stir division based on xyz. Truth is its all bullshit and theyre just dividing and manipulating us against each other for their own gain

I like the fact that this video was posted. Everyone always wonders (especially for controversial songs) how the people involved in the videos feel about it or if they know the message behind what they are participating in. This shows that respect is shown to everyone involved from the beginning, giving them the opportunity to hear the lyrics, react/form an opinion, and discuss it. The fact that it is open to questions and discussion is great! Not saying that people are usually blindsided, but it is always nice to see the process. Not only to hear the reasoning or purpose behind the artist or the process, but also to show/answer questions that many others may have. This is how people should communicate in general.....by actually asking questions and discussing it, without arguing and fighting just because someone respectfully disagrees.

This was really cool to hear about your perspective where you're coming from. I was raised to love based on someones character and actions. Not by some preconceived stereotype. When I served in the Marines, we were Marines. We'd train, sweat, and bleed together. We were a brotherhood. In today's society, it seems there is nothing but animosity and hate and no one wants to talk. Tom, your music is deep! Keep doing what you're doing and bringing conversation back.

I have only just found your music and I am a fan already. I wish I had the courage to write about the topics you do and bring them into the light. Artists know their songs hold different meanings to different people, I hear this song for the message it is speaking about but also as a blanket take on discrimination in general. I have been a musician and singer all of my life, I have had constructive criticism but the only negative comments I get are on my size! It breaks my heart when I am told that if I lose weight and come back I will get somewhere with my career, as Adele once said, 'music is for the ears, not the eyes.' The fact that this discrimination is made in an industry of sound, not sight, coupled with the assumption that people will not buy your music just because you don't look like a model, is rage inducing. When I listen to this song I hear someone standing up for more than race, I hear someone willing to stand up!

@Eyala Roberts My dear, your voice and expression are AMAZING!!! If you can, try to think of the negative comments as coming from people who aren't yet old enough to understand what's important in life. if that is the only criticism you you get, then you are on your way.

very happy to have watched this. As an Army brat I did not grow up in a world where I witnessed racial issues, and becoming a soldier myself at 18 again I had no concept of racial tensions. My first troubles with racism was after returning from Desert Storm and hating everyone that was Arab, and it took many years to get passed it because I realized that my true enemy was the government and religious leaders and the powers that be controlling everything and not the person down the street or the one sitting next to me at the diner. That being said I have not listened to rap since time it became mumbled that I could no longer understand the message being conveyed. This song is amazing and hopefully will open the eyes of everyone and anyone thinking there is more than 2 races, the human race and the political race, we need to decide which one we appreciate and which one keeps all of us down. Those that rise and speak as loud as they can on the speakers inciting the differences and the gathering the followers to follow their ideals are the ones we need to concern ourselves with, and those bringing the message of peace through songs of togetherness being true at heart which I feel from this are the ones we should praise and hear. Thanks for following your dream and sharing your message with us, I only wish I had followed mine before being to broken.

But we don't get to have identifies other than brainwashed racists according to the Community because of Trump. I didn’t understand the context behind “Whiteboy,” so I took it as an anthem for the regular people in response to crap like Robin DiAngelo’s “White Fragility.” It’s a slog to read, but I suggest you give it a try to get a clearer view of how the intellectual ‘elites’ think and the kind of things they are pedaling that just doesn’t reflect reality culturally OR scientifically. Anyhow, I’m filipino, not that that matters at all. I am not my race, color, sex, gender, or any words that people call me. None of that defines me. I define me.

The sad part is that it may not reflect reality, but it's starting to because it's content like that causing it to spread. Our schools, our music, our major companies are all catering to this woke garbage. If only the US had the draft still but everyone had to serve in a combat role! We'd see this bullshit go away right quick!! My roommate Fonz was straight from Cape Verde Africa, black portuguese, my team leader was El Chico Maniac, El Salvadorian, we got into a fistfight over something dumb and hugged it out afterward. Very few people experience the bonds I did, and even tho I didn't view things racially to begin with, it's incredibly eye opening seeing the family you gain no matter their background or skin pigmentation.
@josephcoon5809
@josephcoon5809 3 роки тому
@@MacguffinsTV You don’t need a draft. A better option would be mandatory militia service to make social benefits available. If you want your community to pay for your college, you gotta help protect it. If you want your community to pay for your healthcare, you gotta help protect it. The problem with the draft is that it is run by the Federal government which ties the soldier to the Federal government ahead of their community. Local militias would make soldiers respect their communities above their Federal government. An American respects America by respecting those around them; not by respecting the Federal government.
