My mother is a nurse, works at an opticians practice, and she knows very well what a blind person looks like and how he or she acts. Pacino never looked directly at something, and he didn't overdo it. The film is a bit cheesy, but he portrayed his character as best as he could, and he did a bloody good job.

Bill the Butcher is one of the best played characters of all time. Very complex though, and the reasons for his greatness aren't apparent with 1 or 2 viewings. Makes for a tough crowd pleaser, but absolutely top 5 performances all time.
