i think the main reason for the irvine shambles was he was on slicks - it started to rain so they quickly brought him in - but for more slicks - a waste of time which even confused the pit crew (i'm sure the guy was querying a slick tyre since it didn't make sense).

@The Piran One conspiracy theory - eddie led hakkinen by the last race - meaning he'd win the title if merely hakkinen failed to finish or eddie finished ahead of him in the race - ferrari wrecking his chances wouldn't have left things that easy for him by the last race.

@@mrgobrien the strategy for the Japanese Grand Prix that year was for Schumacher to challenge Hakkinen, keeping him in second, and with Irvine third it would have been enough to have the Ulsterman clinch the title. However, Hakkinen proved to be too fast at Suzuka to hold back in second and so he won a second title

@@SiVlog1989 ​yes - i was addressing the allegation that ferrari were trying to sabotage irvine - but a mere non finish in that last race by hakkinen would have given the title to irvine - so i say any ferrari sabotage would've occurred lots not just at the nurburgring (to prevent irvine being in contention by the final race) - anyway which i say was caused by rain suddenly starting but then suddenly stopping minutes later just as irvine entered the pits and that confusing the mechanics etc over which tyres to switch to.

And for this reason it should be #1 on this list.
