We’ll be looking at various beloved and critically acclaimed TV shows that are known to have one infamous season that tarnished the overall reputation of the series. We’ll only be including shows with brief, season-long dips in quality, so shows like The Simpsons that suffered a permanent depression and loss of quality will not be included. Except it really wasn't. While the Mother was used as the hook for the series. The actual series is all about the relationship between Ted and Robin, the ending made perfect sense. People need to re-watch the show from a different perspective.

Season 9 of How I Met Your Mother was AWFUL. It spent way too much time focusing on Barney and Robin’s wedding only for them to divorce in the end. On top of that, they killed off the mother in the final episode.

Agree about the divorce. My own problem but killing off the mother is how they used the mother's death as bait to bring Robin and Ted together. The mother being dead didnt surprise me since they have thrown hint through the show.

Game of Thrones' worst season is Season 6. Not 7, not 8, it's 6. They had material for S6, but they threw away all logic and jumped the shark multiple times during that season.

I felt that seasons 5 and 7 were awful too. In fact, the writing of 7 may be WORSE than 8, but everyone focuses on 8 since its the final season and it had all the stakes.

What about Glee season 6. It made no sense for Rachel to leave New York for her TV show in the first place and then after it fails she decides to go back and run the New Directions. Plus the new kids of that season had no character arcs. Basically the only good part of the season was Brittany and Santana’s proposal and wedding.

I think season 5 was worse. But I think the problem was that Cory was the heart and soul of Glee, and after he died, it just wasn't the same after that. I mean there were many issues with season 5, mainly how they treated Rachel's storyline. I mean she quits NYADA to be on broadway, only to then quit Broadway for her own tv show.

MsFriendsfan4ever I mostly liked Season 5 until towards the end of the season when they were just in New York. They didn’t have enough good ideas for it and that’s when the story went downhill. Plus I prefer the music in season 5.

I refuse to watch season 8 of that 70s show, it should have ended with season 7. The writers for season 8 totally ruined the show and all character development. It should have ended with Eric going to Africa, Donna eventually following him. Kelso moving to Chicago, Fez being Fez, and Hyde and Jackie together. They need to do a revival where they can fix the mess that was s8, and reveal the entire final season was just one bad dream. Also I would include season 5 of glee. The loss of Corey, made it not the same as it was before, not that it was good. I would also include season 5 of Gossip Girl Season 4 of Arrow was horrible, and the death of Laurel was even worse, even the treatment of her character.

I agree about "That 70's Show". They clearly weren't expecting it to get renewed for an eighth season, and it shows. Randy not only was incredibly bland, he tried to replace the void left by both Eric and Kelso, two vastly different characters. At least the series finale went off on a high note, with Eric returning, and implying that he gets back together with Donna.

I feel like S4 or S6 of Glee were the worst. Everyone in S4 were just carbon copies of the much better og cast. e.g. Unique was Mercedes and Kurt, Jake was Puck and Finn. S6 was 100% better than S4 but they just lost all the character development of Rachel, like she wouldn't leave Funny girl after just weeks of playing her, not to mention contracts. S5 was, in my opinion, good. Even though, they lost Cory, they dedicated an entire episode to him, which has some of the best songs of the entire series, S5 felt like a better S4. We saw everyone achieving their goals and the second half of it focused on the characters everyone cared about. S5 wasn't the best, but it was, by far, not the worst.

@@andrewthezeppo I hated the potentials, they were so annoying and got more screen time then they deserved. I already hated Giles for leaving in season 6 for such a crappy reason but proceeded to make him worse, all the characters kicking Buffy out of her house (clearly written so Spike could come and give her a pep talk). It did have some amazing episodes and scenes, it felt like they just tried to shove all their ideas into one season and it came off so messy (especially the first's plans as well as Buffy's suffered it a lot).

It makes no sense that Buffy is on here anyway. Some episodes might be kind of lame, but this wasn't just a thing in season 4. I'd argue season 1 is worse than season 4. A lot of people put 7 as the worst. It's weird to single out season 4 as the one bad season, when so many people think other seasons are worse and when most people think season 4 was great anyway.

To this day I still haven't seen season 8 after I read that it is almost taboo to talk about it. Have seen this show so many times and I got not the courage to see how bad that season was. Also, HYDE AND JACKIE WERE MEANT TO BE MAN!!!!! I will never forgive the writers for breaking them up.

@@lar9299 They were supposed to be the endgame but the old writers got fired and new writers came in. So for me the new writers writing isn't canon, so Jackie and Fez never got together and the show ended with Hyde and Jackie being engaged which was the original plan. You did yourself a favor for not watching season 8. As much as I love Hyde he wasn't as funny without Kelso and Eric by his side. Randy was such a Gary Stu. They almost re-casted Eric, with the actor who played Randy, which would have made the season worse than it already was. It sad because all seven seasons were great.

S7 is set in Seattle where Regina, Hook, and Rumple are the only remaining original characters for MOST of the season. Not give away spoilers but more return towards the end of the series. I won't say who though ;)

David Skinner I thought it was odd in the first scene how Regina is the only one saying goodbye to Henry...but I thought maybe the reason why would come out later, but idk I’ve seen multiple comments on this video of people saying OUAT’s last season sucked and should’ve been on this list and now I’m second guessing even finishing it. I’ve only seen the first episode and already wasn’t feeling the fact that they were in a city instead of Storybrooke.

That’s not to mention the fact that HIMYM literally built up Barney and Robin as a couple for 6 years, had Barney go through some major maturity and character development, and had them both finally get themselves in a place to settle down with each other only for them to literally get divorced in the series finale. Despite the whole season being about their wedding 🙃👌

I think it's cause that show went downhill starting at the end of season 4, it was on a slow decline, in my opinion. I didn't even finish season 6, and gave up.

The Neverland plotline was awesome and should've been the whole season, but then they had to come back to Storybrooke, which started the whole weird half season storyline thing. Then the Frozen storyline next Season started the whole shoehorning in new characters rather than developing already established ones 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I almost don't even know if Parks and Rec should even be counted. Season 1 was only 6 episodes long and while the quality was nothing close to what it would quickly become later, most of the characters were already good and well established from the beginning and the writing was still good, with funny jokes. It just wasn't a masterpiece yet. Also I'll be that person: Game of Thrones season 7 was worse than season 8.

Tammy Martinez I haven’t read the books because they’re not finished. I don’t like starting book series that I know will take forever to be finished. I wanted a happy ending for her because I saw much of myself in her. That’s as far as I want to get into my personal reasons for feeling hurt by the final season.

Stephanie Evans than GRRMs plan for Daenerys succeed. I think he wanted to Mary Sue her and then destroy that trope. It’s sad that many people see themselves in a Mary Sue. He and the show runner s did that and then yanked the rug out from under you and many others. It’s still ok she’s just a human flawed like the rest of us capable of extreme kindness and extreme evil too!

Tammy Martinez I agree that it’s important to highlight that she was a flawed human being and not a Mary Sue, I just don’t see the need for making her turn the complete opposite direction within only a few episodes. It felt rushed to me. But more than that, it just would have given me such hope to see a female character who wants power and is capable of wielding it rise to command and succeed. It’s not a bad thing for a woman to want power - in fact it can be a good thing - and I can’t name many stories where that point comes across. I definitely see the logic in what you’re saying, but I can’t help but feel let down after years of emotional investment.

Actually the third season of Lost was the worst, even the writers hated the season that they wanted to end the show. Downton Abbey and Sherlock also went downhill after their third season, especially that Abominable Bride was so stupid!

No way season three of Lost was the worst. The first half, sure, but the second half had an unbelievably good run that rivals season one in quality, and had the absolute best season ender with "Through the Looking Glass". After a season and a half of plodding storytelling, the fanbase was super excited for the next three years after that excellent game changing episode. The producers were frustrated during season three, but mainly from having to stretch out the story in 22 episode seasons when they only really needed 16. Seasons four and five were great for this reason, though six unfortunately wasn't of the same level.

dowman5 season three was terrible and cringeworthy. Half the season’s episodes were filler and the main characters captured by the others! Even the flashbacks had nothing to do with connecting the main storylines. The final season was just a disappointing conclusion, but not filler episodes that made the show jumped the shark. Even the Lost writers said they were ashamed of third season, they wanted to end the show after few more seasons, because of that terribly written season!

HIMYM was a brilliant show, it made me feel like the characters were my friends, and I enjoyed the last season (although seasons 1-5 were the best for me). The major problem was the last episode, where they undo all the funny and emotional moments of the series.

Agreed. Buffy Season 4 had many good episodes alongside some "meh" ones. Also, it began featuring Spike as antihero, introduced Tara, and featured some brilliant foreshadowing for the seasons ahead. Angel Season 4 had "Spin the Bottle" & return of Faith and Angelus...that's it. Everything else was complete garbage at best.

@@Aromatherapist_tris season 6 is polarising but it has a lot more respect now for what it is. Quality wise, season 7 is the worst, the big bad doesn't do much, Buffy's plans are very flimsy and badly explained and it lost a lot of its amazing dialogue and replaced with constant speeches.

S4 of Angel was amazing until Cordelia gave birth. Ofc if we pretend Cordelia never slept with Angel's son. But it had so many amazing and dark, twisted episodes, they were too good.

I thought Buffy Season 7 was significantly worse than 4. 4 was alright with some good moments, but I couldn't finish season 7, the Chosen were extreamly irritating and the show lost all its charm with Joss Whedon's departure.

I thought season 7 started going downhill right after ep 7, Conversations with Dead People. Then it was crap for awhile, with The First never living up to it's potential. Still, things started picking out around 16 and 17 and the show managed to end pretty damn well. Still Season 7 of Buffy makes Season 4 of Angel look good by comparison. Main thing that sucked about that season was Evil Cordy.

@@LorcanaControl I love both shows, but I'm not blind to their flaws. While I wouldn't go as far to say season 4 and 7 of Buffy are bad, nor season 4 of Angel; IMHO they are the weaker links. And Joss's focus did wane a little bit during the 3rd and 4th season of Angel and the 6th and 7th season of Buffy. Mostly because of Firefly. Which was worth it. Even though Firefly was canceled it's a little slice of perfection. (And Joss didn't get chance to strain/destroy the found family in the second season, like he tends to do in his shows.)

@@LorcanaControl Joss Whedon only wrote on 2 episodes on the season (the premier and finale) and was just an executive producer. The showrunner was Marti Noxon, who was the main person responsible for the direction of the season. But if you liked it all power to you, I just didn't. Found it neardering and the Chosen to ruin it for me

It dropped in quality after season 3. Alison should have stayed dead. But the last season and a half wasn't needed. They should have ended after Charlotte was revealed to be big A, and have the girls go of to college.

Even with the problems of Game of Thrones' later seasons, I think it's unfair to compare the two. They're totally different shows, not just in narrative scale and genres, but sheer production. Breaking Bad also didn't have the extra disadvantage of adapting an incomplete series, because its author was also overwhelmed by the sheer weight of his own ambition. Breaking Bad also told a story that, at its core, has been told numerous times before: the rise and fall of a local drug dealer. Game of Thrones was technically much harder to pull off, with it being an adult themed fantasy series that required a movie style budget and year round production to properly pull off. It's pretty miraculous that the show reached this far. For that alone, the producers deserve major credit, even with season 8 being critically panned.

@@Brian-Castillo18 Is it because of Allison's death? Cuz I loved season 5. I just think 6A was the best ending the show could have had. They didn't need one more season. Also, 6B looked like a straight boy from college or high school wrote and directed it. Old school sexism and making it all about the male protagonist. And how can I forget the end where the girl (a fierce werewolf) kisses him to heal his eyes. Felt like I was sent to the 80s. That season was the exact opposite of what the whole series stood for- all the characters having equally important role and boys and girls being equally strong.

How I Met Your Mother was always about Ted and Robin.....who tells the story of meeting their kids' mom but most of the time is spent talking about someone else.....not to mention the fact that the first thing Ted talks about is how he fell in love with ROBIN!!! It was always about Robin. As for Game of Thrones...I LOVED the ending!!!! The only problem with season 8 is people had way too high expectations for it. Everyone wanted it to end a certain way and since they didn't get what they wanted they call it a bad season. It was rushed, that's true.....but I still believe that it got the perfect ending!!

expectations or not, got s8 wasnt bad because bran became king. It was bad because of everything else leading up to it was a mess. I havnt even watched the 2 last episodes of got because the other episodes were such a goddamn mess. And it took everything i had to make it through s7 which was just as a big a mess. Storytelling, pacing, budget limitations, continuity issues and the lack of common sense made it unbearable. ppl act like it was the ending that made s8 shit. But everyone i talked to during and since hated episode 1 and 2 as much. Coming it to work on a monday asking "so did u see got yesterday?" "yeah, what a load of shit" From ep 1 to 6 the same reponse.

S9 of One tree hill. If it wasnt for a couple of beautiful moments in the final episode, the whole season would've been a complete garbage. Ruined relationships and characters, soap opera like storylines...s8 finale was perfect. Those 13 episodes after managed to ruin almost everything.

Season 4 of BBC's Sherlock should've been here.Everything from Mary's death,to episode 2,all the way to the unnecessary introduction of Sherlock's secret sister Eurus was downright both disturbing and disappointed.I completely forgot what Jim Moriarty was meant to do in episode 3,and frankly,I don't think that having Sherlock be the only one who couldn't remember his own baby sister simply because she spent her entire life in a mental institution that Mycroft is now in charge of and her own parents were tricked into thinking she was dead was a wise explanation.Oh,and don't get me started on the disturbing plot twist that was taken straight out of the episode The Hounds Of Baskerville,proving that Sherlock himself was foolish enough to alter a childhood memory(then again,he was a child at that time) and even believe his own lie for so long!

Disagree with Lost being on here. Fans admittedly were very divided regarding the finale, but the 6th season was so fitting for the fans who paid attention to the first 5 seasons. I can’t see how it could have gone any other way and still projected itself forward.

I love How I met your mother. And honestly I enjoyed season 9 because Tracy became one of my favorite characters. I'm sad she died but I kinda saw it coming considering that they filmed the scenes with the kids the first year they started filming the show. So it was going to happen, it was just only a matter of time.

that 70s show just didnt have an 8 season all i know is that it ended on season 7 and they forgot to air an few episodes on how hyde and jackie got enganed and move to chicago also kelso has his baby and eric leaves with donna to go to africa and fez and nina start dating again thats the real last episodes x

Aparently even the cast thought it was bad, and should be considered a bad AU, and when the cast itself is disapointed, you know it's bad. Which is why they should do a revival with the original writers and then they can reveal that the entire final season was just one bad dream, and they fix the mess of season 8.

HIMYM final season 3. Buffy season 4 (middle) 2. The Office penultimate season 1. Game of Thrones finale Honorable mentions: 24 season 6, Harmon-less Community, West Wing season 5; X-Files season 9, Gilmore Girls season 7 (Apparently there was no bad TV before 1999!) My opinion: Chuck, missing here, is my #1. Others thought it was patchy, but I loved seasons 1-4 and hated 5. HIMYM had a general quality dip, so I wasn't too disappointed while #9 came around, and that season's best episode was the best episode in the second half of the show. It's also funny to see a fair bit of a pre-Hamilton-premier Lin-Manuel Miranda (especially within the cringe-worthy text).

I refuse to like the idea that Reid spent half a season in jail and also Hotch was a huge loss to the show. And Merlin season 5. The ending was not very good and very rushed.

I personally have to disagree with Season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. While Season 4 was okay at best, I think it had more seasons that were just considered okay. I am honestly surprised Season 6 wasn't the one on this list. While I don't hate Season 6, it is definitely considered one of the shows weakest seasons. It was a lot darker than previous seasons, it's ark was a little shotty, and it came after a season that was supposed to the series finale. I heard Supernatural Season 6 had similar issues. In my opinion, Season 1 was Buffy's worst season. Though first seasons usually aren't that good, so I still give it a pass.

Bewitched season 5. The actor playing Darrin left the series unexpectedly due to illness. They were forced to make several episodes without his character, which didn't work too well. The role was re-cast for season 6.

Buffy is interesting... most people say s1 is the worst, others say s7. Season 6 is controversial though I've warmed up to it over the years. I feel like s4 is just too mediocre to be memorably bad aside from Hush and Restless. I can watch any season of Buffy and still be entertained, even s6. Now if it were ANGEL season four, NOW we can talk about shows with one bad season. Even though it too had its supporters, what they did to a beloved character was outrageous and leaves people with a bad taste in their mouths, regardless of any hidden brilliance it may have had.

Buffy season 4 was NOT bad. Even with them having to scramble and do more with Adam than they intended (since the actress who played Maggie Walsh wanted to leave way too early), it still crafted some of the best episodes of the show bar none and still played a great continuation of Buffy's story, hell just a story in GENERAL of what teenagers do after they leave high school. Willow thrived under the new environment of knowledge and study, Buffy was trying to find herself and was the person who experimented, as teenagers in college often do (in this case, sleeping with Parker), and Xander was trying to find his place both in the world (since he didn't go to college) as well as with his friends who he had been feeling increasingly ostracized from because they were in college and he wasn't. There's SO many nuances there! So, no, it's not a bad season whatsoever. >:(

Season 4 of Angel ruined the best character on it and Season 4 of Veronica Mars caused almost every fan to give up on the show because of it's ending... Also Buffy season 4 wasn’t *that* bad in my opinion. I think it had a few behind the scenes issues with a couple actors having to leave which just left the story to be rewritten quickly. Arrow season 4 was fairly enjoyable for me. The Olicity breakup was stupid but at least it ends up okay. Death of Laurel was sad but it lead to some interesting stories and made me hate Damian even more. The flashbacks were as bad as the flashback stories are in any season so that’s nothing special. That season has Constantine in it. How bad can it be? Finally, I’m one of the 2% of people that actually likes the HIMYM ending. I always liked robin and ted from the start. I dont think the mother should’ve been killed off though. Season 9 as a whole was good though Also what’s with season 4s being bad?
