Payton was consistently the best I’ve seen, especially given the length of his career. Barry Sanders would be next, but quit too early. I would like to have seen Wilbert Montgomery at least be in this list, and was afraid they were going to leave Marcus Allen out until near the end. They put in a few quarterback runs and “consequential” runs that could have been left out. And perhaps they should have included the game with OJ running in the snow for a record, even if he turned out to be a double-murderer who just didn’t get convicted for it. Still this was a fun one to watch and I was glad they got Dorsett’s 99.5 yard run in there. I saw that one as it happened on TV.

@@HQBergeron I definitely think Payton was the better running back between him and Sanders, no disrespect to Sanders. But Payton's longevity and hardly missing a single game throughout his career despite the beating he took day in and day out definitely makes him the better RB in my opinion. Not to mention he was a crazy good blocking back, something rarely mentioned. And had 1600 extra receiving yards than Sanders.

Payton is the only back I've watched in my years, that looked for contact. Sure he ran out when the angle went away. But a cb was aware that that 5 yard run could come with the cb on his back from a stiff arm.

He never ran for 1,000 yards in a season. He did have a career average of 5.4 ypc, which is obviously great. Why didn't he get more carries? He was quite good in baseball too, he had a 32 HR, 105 RBI, 26 stolen base season. Also Bo is the best player in any Tecmo football game by far.

Being a product of Run to Daylight , I saw the Packers great #31 , Jim Taylor , break a sweep and some 40 to 50 yards downfield have #76 Bob Skoronski ?? Get ahead of Taylor and keep the DB from trying to stop Taylor . Certainly some very , very wonderful RBs with " moves " that are almost unbelievable .And the " Power " RBs . !! AlStott , Campbell , Csonka , Jim Brown ( he was amazing ) I really don't mean to overlook any one in those clips , whatsoever The one clip that I really got a chuckle out of was Kenny Stabler s 30 plus yd run for a TD !! This clip is fabulous . For us Old Timers , seeing runs from the 50s , 60s , 70s , etc brings back a whole lot of memories !!! . For the younger viewers ,they probably wonder why the clips showing a quarterback sneak , or 3 yard run by a Colts RB (Ameche ? ) are on this clip . I'm fairly certain that RBs , Hugh McElhaney, W. Galinore ( the Wisp ) The predecessor , to great Chicago Bears RBs Gayle Sayers , and " Sweetness " . This clip is terrific . It touches just about everything From the historic TD in OT , Ice Bowl QB sneak to The TD that marked the greatest comeback in SB history !!! Some obscure " Old Timers " players . I hope younger fans , players , coaches will watch this wonderfully researched film .Not only from the terrific runs by the RBs but the complete efforts of the rest of the O getting downfield to block . Not to overlook the seemingly " ho Hum ' running plays that shaped the history of the NFL . I can't even imagine how much work , study and time this piece took to create . But , I really , really think it's terrific . Thank You !!

He caught 492 passes (140 more than Barry) for 4,538 yards and 125 touchdowns (26 more than Barry). The ONLY place that Barry Sanders stats are better than Walter Payton is the yards per carry average, where Barry had 5 and Walter averaged 4.4.

Earl Campbell had so many better runs than what they showed, he used to regularly catch defensive backs on his shoulder and throw them out of bounds while still running down the sideline. I've only seen 1 highlight of that, but he did that a lot.

Earl Campbell was the most powerful running back I ever saw play the game. And it's not even close. I'm a Seahawks fan, and I am a huge fan of Marshawn Lynch. And as great as Beastmode was, he still doesn't hold a candle to Campbell.

What people seem to never take into account is that this guy didn't have the team, and more importantly the o-line supporting his ass, and yet he produced year after year, Time After Time. Felt so bad for Barry to be stuck in Detroit all those years. That's why I was so glad when Matt Stafford got a chance to leave. But you never know. I went to Tennessee while Peyton was playing there and I followed him through his career and was certain he would get Barry Sanders'ed in Indianapolis. Sometimes the story works out.
