As an EFL teacher I find your videos really professional and totally agree with your approach to teaching and learning a foreign language. Although I consider myself as an "effective user" of English I watch your videos on a regular basis. They are very motivational, natural, realistic and entertaining. During my years of teaching and learning English I have always been looking for the "curiosties" of this beautiful language, such as onomatopoeic sounds of animals and the like; stuff that are hard to look up in dictionaries. One of the undiscovered territories of English for me is the so-called "motherese" words and I could really appreciate you making a video about those special "baby-words" which mothers and fathers use to talk to their babies. Hi, Vanessa.👋 I'm Japanese learning English. Your video made me so happy🤣 and I found a similarity with joke between English and Japanese!! In Japan, two types of joke are famous. One is called nazo-kake. To use it, two words(or noun clause) are connected with one phrase(predicate), usually thought of as a formal joke(many comedians do it) The other is called da-jare. You use a phrase or word twice in one sentence in different expression. Latter is simple and known as a dad joke. A person who uses it usually makes others a bitter smile😅 Well, I want to give you examples of jokes, but it's hard for me😫forgive my poor English‼️

Hi Vanessa, these jokes are simply amazing! I think the explanation for the last one is that the man went to the dentist's at 2:30 and because he had toothache, the point here is the pronunciation of two thirty/ tooth hurty. It's always a pleasure to learn something new with you. Bye!

i learned english by listening to movies( they aren't dubbed in Flanders but have subtitles) and try to figuring out what is going on without watching

I really enjoy this show! I always found jokes and puns so hard but after your explanation, I think I can totally understand at least the 15 jokes you taught and laugh out loud. The feeling is sooooo great! This lesson is so helpful and Thank you, Vanessa! Currently, I am also listening to CNN 10 Student News every day, it's a 10 minutes program, and I can understand almost 90% of the content. But when the host tells a joke or pun at the end of the program, I always get lost. I guess to fully understand them requires more than just vocab and grammar, but also a deep knowledge of American culture. I'm still working on it!

I do not know how I ended up here but this was very funny.... the only one was the one with the jalapeño (a little too far fetched) but in all it was fantastic ...thank you for the laughs!!!! and a big hug from Argentina!!!!
