Calling a supervisor is like writing to your congressman.

I have a question. What is the point of the supervisor, they literally don’t do anything. They always just agree to whatever the umpire says🤦🏽‍♂️

Here’s a rule to live by if you’re a chair umpire: never overrule a call. You have dedicated line judges on every single line, and there’s Hawkeye. Nobody is ever mad at the chair when a line judge messes up. Overruling is all risk, zero reward

In general, I'd say that players approaching the umpire are correct ~50% of the time, but the umpire's call stands unchanged 99,9% of the time. *This* is the problem with tennis. #Ego

I’ve never really understood the point of a referee or “supervisor”… never seen where they overturned a decision. They always side with the umpire which is ridiculous cause “why are they there?”

I remember back in the 80s when at the Melbourne Indoors, Vitas Guerilitis was so incensed by the lines people he sat in his chair and refused to take the court against Peter McNamara until they'd been replaced. He protested that some of them were as old as his grandmother and she had terrible eyesight. He was given a warning then McNamara was awarded the match

Wozniacki incorrect as in many other situations. I missed this episode with Sharapova, but, knowing how she has behaved so many times, I was not surprised by her behaviour. The umpire was 100% correct, she's not, she lies (or at least she hasn't seen the ball and she pretends she has, in the best scenario for her), then she does not shake hands. Truly ridiculous.

i will always wonder why so many players try to cheat whereas they know millions of persons will see the slow motion on television...

I think the likes of Graf, Seles and Evert had the best approach to dealing with bad line calls. They'd make their disagreement known, and then completely re-focus on the next point. None of them ever lost a match because they had a meltdown because of a bad call

Honestly? I used to like Serena and pulled for her but she's had egg on her face twice now in what I consider major character defects. Here where she brings up her kids, demands an apology, calls a man a thief for "stealing a point", accuses the same man of questioning her integrity, says she would rather lose than to cheat, and she knew she was lying the whole time when she was being coached from the stands. That man (coach) was specifically telling her to get aggressive after the serve and press half court. The other one is where she swore she never told a line judge that she would kill her, and swore she would NEVER say anything like that. Well, she was in the least parsing her words because what she did say was I'll shove this tennis ball down your throat and kill you. Didn't realize she'd be exposed on YT and would have to this day claimed she never said that, had somebody not had the footage with the words coming out of her mouth. She lost any and all respect I might have had for her.

I'm assuming the S WIlliams v Capriani one was before call-challenging with hawkeye came into play.

Here we go with my views on every single one that no one asked for: 20. The call was bad but Wozniacki was worse 19. The ball was out. I get that the call should be the point for Li Na, but she should've just let them replay the point. It was so clearly out that she should feel lucky to get the chance to replay. 18. I think Serena is dramatic and whiny but everything she did was completely justified here. 17. How did Kirilenko think she would get away with that? The umpire was great especially since she was almost sassy. Love it. 16. Jankovic and Serena are both annoying. If Serena was taking forever, I get it. Jankovic does NOT have to wait until anyone is ready, but could've been obnoxious depending on the context. Serena is objectively wrong though. 15. Jankovic deserved another first serve. I feel bad for umpire though. 14. That call was TERRIBLE and I'm pretty sure the other team was lying about "not knowing." 13. It's hard to tell. I think Sharapova may have actually been confused. Ostapenko didn't seem to give a shit as long as she wasn't disqualified. She absolutely should've been. Broady only fought for the disqualification so she would win even though it would be fair to argue as a neutral person watching. 1. Classic Serena. Being a bitch and then lying and suddenly playing the victim is just her brand. I'm happy the linesperson just kind of sat there without acting intimidated and then went straight to the umpire.
