Actually I have two chihuahuas well one passed, they are hard to train but what I did was repetition and she was food driven (most are). My dad also train her to drive away the pigeons (so they won’t eat the grass seeds) and he did it by getting her riled up and then giving her praise. They still dogs you just have to figure them out by their personalities.

There’s a super friendly shiba in our neighborhood who’s an escape artist. He runs around the neighborhood freely and comes home when he pleases. If you see him and yell “go home Arlo” he turns and goes home 😅 they had to put a tag on him that specifically says “I’m not lost, I’ll go home at sundown” 😂

I have a diabetic alert dog that is a chihuahua. She's the best service dog I have ever had. She doesn't bite or bark in uniform and absolutely loves everyone in my family.

Yeah, maybe my dog was an exception but our chihuahua was an absolute sweetheart and bonded with the whole family. My mom treated him as a normal dog and he was disciplined as a bigger dog would be and wasn’t babied. So that’s probably why. He only ever snapped at a male friend we asked to go by while we were out to walk him. They got along great whenever the guy came over for dinner and to hang out (they had met several times and each time our dog really liked him), so we stupidly thought it’d be okay for him to come by when we weren’t home to walk him. Nope. He was like “my family isn’t here, you shouldn’t be here either!” We had to end up calling my sister to come by and walk him 🤦♀️ whoops. That was our fault for sure. He was just trying to protect the home

Chihuahuas run my neighborhood 😂 they’re growly but as soon as you walk in their direction they walk away. My neighbors dog is the sweetest Chihuahua too!❤

My gf has one and it's probably the nicest dog and listened to me after only seeing it 2 times I had to puppy sit. And trying to introduce it to my cat. Still in progress cat is kinda a ass to dogs.

Black bears are know to only attack defensively, they kill less than one person per year on the average. Grizzly bears on the other hand will kill for sport and are responsible for 44 kills per year on average.

Actually, I've had a chihuahua once. He was incredibly easy to train and was well behaved. He learned to tolerate strangers with correct socialization training lol

Socializing your Chi is the key. Mine was very nasty when I got him, but he has really chilled out since and strangers can now pet him.

Yea my cousins had 2 chihuahuas that lived a lil over 14 years and both were really well socialized so they were nice and social to many different people and that’s also thanks to the parties my cousins threw 😂

My aunt had a chihuahua and he was the absolute sweetest dog ever, never bit anyone, never been aggressive, and was always extremely welcoming for tonnes of belly rubs. Gosh I miss him so much :(

I got lucky with my Shiba cause she ended up with all of the good traits of the breed and none of the bad ones. She is extremely loyal and always at my side. She really doesn't like other people and won't let anyone outside of me and my family even touch her but she has never shown an ounce of aggression no matter how stressed she gets when someone she doesn't know approaches her way too enthusiastically. She is an angel to my little brother and sister even when they were really young and very grabby. She is a relatively quiet dog and only ever barks when someone is at the door so I don't have to hear the Shiba scream whenever she has something to say. She has the perfect amount of sass and stubbornness to give her a unique cat like personality but never to the point she outright disrepects me as her owner

My friend and I were walking around her apartment complex and this guy was walking his Shiba Inu, absolutely gorgeous dog, so we asked if he was friendly. The shiba promptly answered with a snarl and we couldn’t hold back the laugh because it was just so perfectly timed. “Is he friendly?” “Grrrrrrrr”

My buddies chihuahua barks at me when I'm knocking on his door but the second I come in she gets all excited and friendly. Usually I'll sit on the sofa and it'll sit on my lap then proceed to protect me from him and his family. He'll bring me a coffee while I'm sat down and the dog goes for him and I have to hold it still, anytime anyone gets close to me, maybe 3 or 4 feet while that dogs on my lap it'll turn from a sweet little lap dog into a little demon. I honestly think my buddies dog is only loyal to me, I find it really funny but my buddy hates it. Little does he know I always keep jerky in my pocket as an emergency snack so all dogs love me. Honestly I consider it a life hack, I think just my general laid back demeanor and body language puts most dogs at ease though, the jerky smell just seals the deal. It works for other animals too like cats, though I'm allergic to cats so I have to take the wheat with the chaff.

I’ve come across only 2 friendly shibas in my life as a dog owner myself. The rest have been awful. We took our two larger dogs to the dog park, one is extremely friendly and playful, and she got full on bullied and harassed by a shiba. He chased her away from every other dog there (there were about 20) and proceeded to nip and growl at her. She didn’t do to him, nor did she even go up and sniff him, she just wanted to play with one of her friends. Ofc, the owner didn’t do anything even when she watched him try to attack our dog on numerous occasions. We ended up going to the other end of the park until he left but she was terrified to go near any of the other dogs for a little while after the incident. About a month later, she actually became besties with a different shiba. Personally, I think shibas are very unpredictable when it comes to personality and trainability although half of the time if a dog acts up, it’s the owners, not the dog.

I got two big Chihuahuas and they're just the sweetest, the little ones are little devils but the big ones are like buddies who'll lay next to you and love on you and want to play and spend time with you but they can be bossy if you spoil them, just don't give them everything they want, but you can give them a lot without spoiling them.

My dad had a shiba inu and my little sister trained him to do multiple complex things. He loves doing tricks, can howl on command, and is extremely gentle when playing with small animals and kids. And hes still only 3ish years old. Hes very well behaved and calm when at home and knows when its play time and when its not. The Only issue is that we got him during covid and our small town had a lot of rules about going out during quarantine, so he didnt get very socialized. This has caused him to distrust most people upon first meeting them, but quickly warms up to them with our greeting routine. Shiba Inus are great pets so long as you train them properly from day one. They can challenge your authority at first but if you stand your ground youll be rewarded with an amazing dog friend.

We have the nicest chihuahua I’ve ever seen. He isn’t aggressive. He’s very puppy-ish. He is the alpha, though. His brothers are both pittbull mixes, and they love him, but he can bully them off their beds.

I have a shiba inu, and your videos actually helped a lot. I have been telling my fellow shiba owners to watch your video bc she is now a total new dog with her obedience and recall. I made huge effort in training her and it is all worth it. I would say if you have a Shiba Inu definitely expect to train her daily.

My dad had a Shiba Inu after our Akita passed. And his dog was an asshole, but he was pretty well trained for the most part he did a lot of dog school with him, but he is definitely a one person dog. He only wants attention from you when he wants it other than that, he ignores you.

@@mobie9336 early exposure to more human interaction is essential. I forced my Shiba to be pet by strangers and visitors before 1 year old. Now she can snuggle up with my guest and also take command (shake hands, sit…) from them.

@@ayerchan844 I was visiting my dad on vacation, he was definitely exposed to everybody when we have holidays there’s 30+ people there. And the way my dad trained his dog made a neurotic. He didn’t want them on the furniture or to bother people. He was a good dog. He was just an asshole.

@@cargueone1971 it is not just an exception. Its how the owners raise/train their dogs. If a Shiba is awful it's because their owner lacks. Mine is amazing but I researched the breed relentlessly before finding my pup and took the measured steps to train and socialize her. Just like how everyone should do before getting a new pet. They're just really really smart.

I had a chihuahua when I was very young but it ran away and got stolen. Now im getting a chihuahua again pretty soon! I live in a apartment complex and also somewhere where if its cold, its REALLY cold. So I won't be able to take him outside to pee a lot of the time, so I want to pee pad train him. Could you tell me how you pee pad trained your dogs if you did that or advice please? Also, how do I train him not to bark a lot? I've researched all this but I want to hear from an experienced chihuahua owner! Please & thank you.

Everyone lets them to demon dogs to the point everyone is convinced they are just bad dogs. I’ve never met a good chihuahua in my life, I wish I have but I haven’t and I’ve known so many chihuahuas since they are a popular dog breed I always see people have but they all were terrible

I think because they are so tiny people don’t really think they can be a threat when they are puppies but then of course when issues aren’t addressed it gets out of hand when they are older. I really don’t think people understand how to be stern with something that comes off as cute and harmless. But that being said, they can be pretty smart sometimes, with dedication you can teach tricks. Ours has never snapped at us or been aggressive but we do have experience in training with German shepherds and Belgian Malinois. We went from Great Danes to chis. Our Carin terrier Chihuahua mix is smarter than our pure bred Chi but they are still very important to us. Only things that I don’t like is their high pitched bark and how u have to really really be careful when around bigger dogs but that’s it really. My mom is disabled and having the little ones around the house is perfect for her. They just fit better for some but I definitely respect when others say they don’t like them!! All love here we get it lol, won’t be getting small dogs like this again personally but I understand

@@xYuuTooz celebrate and hype them up after they use the pads. Bring them on a pad if they miss it. Don’t be too threatening at all. Going down to their level helps and I never cower over them they just get nervous and they can have accidents. Put alot of pads like A LOT out when u have a puppy then once u recognize their regular spots u can gradually remove some. Always bring them to pee before and AFTER naps same with eating and drinking and play time. Remove carpets they don’t understand right away the difference between ok to go spots and not. Be patient but be sure you are stern enough because a lot of people slack on training them since they seem too small to be a threat but besides that good luck

My family always had chihuahuas and they were such sweethearts. Ive actually never met a mean one, and when i started hearing about their bad reputation, i was stunned. I think maybe its because a lot of people treat them like dolls? Dressing them up and doing stupid shit and such, irdk. Still one of my favorite breeds.

Same. Family had a pomchi they trained really well a couple of years before I was born. However, it didn't like me coming around. Took a turd right in the middle of my nursery the day I was brought home after not having any issues for over a year. I didn't get along with it in my toddler years. Eventually though, grew to love that little dog and she brightened up to me too. She lived to the ripe ol' age of 16, still miss that litte dog. I remember her being one of the most loving dogs.

I have a chihuahua and was raised with around them. If trained right they are manageable but they are escape artist. They can slip through the tiniest gaps. They do get stressed easy so you have to calm them down. They are very loving and are one of my favorite breeds. When properly handled they are great compainions.

Chihuahuas can be perfectly well-behaved dogs if they are properly trained, the issue is that a lot of people are too lazy to bother training a dog that small because they can just pick it up if it's causing problems. Never mind the fact that picking them up doesn't fix anything.

I just rescued a homeless dog from a neglectful situation yesterday, he is a chihuahuah. They say that dogs tend to get grumpy with old age and this dude is ancient, but I don't think he could be mean towards anyone other than the fleas I have to rid him of and he's not neutered either. When I got him, I picked him right up and gave him a little hug to let him know he was being helped, he immediately bonded with me. He was in horrible shape but even so, on the way home he was pretty interested in everyone who wanted to meet him. Also, I've only met 2 chihuahhuas ever in my entire life that didn't like pretty much anyone, I've met more shakey, nervous chis than mean ones, with a few naturally curious and friendly ones here and there.

My family raised Shiba Inu’s for seven years, they were super sweet as long as we kept them away from each other and any other dogs 😅. They were Incredible escape artists, we had one in particular we had to keep on a line because he kept wrecking our pens and getting out. He was super sweet, before we lived in a more populated area we let him be off the leash most the time and when it was time for dad to come home from work, he would be sitting at the top of a hill that overlooked the bridge you had to cross to get to where we lived. as soon as he heard dad’s truck he would race him home. He did that every day till dad wrecked his truck and started using work trucks then he didn’t know which one was him. We also had one who was the sweetest mama ever if she had puppies at the same time as any of the other females she would nurse them as well as her own. And if my baby sisters or brothers were crying she had to go see what was wrong. She got sick one time and we took her into the vet, they said when they heard a Shiba Inu was coming in they were dreading it, but they instantly fell in love with her when they met her. If she wasn’t feeling good all she wanted was to be snuggled. The rest of them were your standard drama queen Shiba Inu’s though. I sure miss those dogs.

I’ve had a lot of Shibas in my life, never experienced a “mean” one. Stubborn is a great way to describe them, but our shibas always knew being stubborn was futile because they lived in a house that only had stubborn humans too lol

got my chihuahua mix as a rescue and she was in pretty bad shape. after taking care of her and nursing her back to being healthy i can confirm she has not bonded with anyone in the family the way she has with me. she will even push people who are sitting next to me away so that she can have that spot next to me. but she’s such a loving dog. lover her so much

I have a chihuahua the past 14 years old and has defied all these descriptions. She has baffled many people and won many hearts, young and old. I even have had people offer me money on the spot for her. Either I am that good of a dog trainer or we lucked up on this pick of the litter. I like to think both. First time dog owner, i have a Shiba and he is great. Very dominant personality, very loyal, walks off the leash and listens to me. And he is a boy. However, off the leash training took almost 2 years.

It took 2 years to train him to walk off leash because he slowly realized he would get what he wanted when you would let him off leash. I hope he stays nice. You usually get 1 of 2 types of Shiba, 1 type is an absolute shithead for the 1st 2 years and then they continue being shitheads. Then 2 type you have an great couple years, then they turn into shitheads. Good luck, I hope yours gets nice with plenty more training.

Shiba were originally bred to be hunting dogs. That means they have an attitude similar to Wolf and they need to be dominated pretty hard. Once you do that, they aren’t too bad. It’s just difficult to dominate them without abusing them.

I've helped my nan train her chihuahua, and she was super sweet and barely bit (not really that hard) I have a frenchie that knows an abundance of tricks, but I can confirm the skin issues, eye issues, and more like ear conditions. I used to own a shiba inu who passed, and she wasn't stubborn and was quite co-operative ngl.

I have my 3rd chihuahua . Chis only behave poorly because of stupid owners who think growling and snapping are "cute." I raised mine like large dogs and they were lovely. Little angels who love everyone in the family. They are terrified of children because they know they are higher in the pack, and they aren't safe to be around. A 3 year old can seriously hurt a chi. So they are in an impossible position with them, required to show respect to a little human who doesn't know what they are doing. To try to stay safe and avoid getting hurt, they growl "keep away."

For instance, studies show that Chihuahuas are generally the most aggressive breed and are more likely to attack or bite or lunge at someone or another dog. You have to pick the right dog for you. Regardless of the breed. My Chihuahua was what everyone called "the exception to the rule". Yes, he still barked when people entered our home (like a dog is supposed to) & naturally had to have the last word. No, of course he did not like small children.. nor do I 🤷♀️ I was his person. But he was kind to anyone who deserved kindness. My Prince was the sweetest, most gentle animal I've ever known. He would look around a room & seek out the person who needed comforting the most & make it his mission to make them smile. There was not a single person who met him & didn't instantly fall in love. The minds of many a Chihuahua hater were *permanently changed* . He was special & I miss him every second I exist without him.

I know, I have a four year old rescue chihuahua who we think is crossed with a whippet, she’s extremely nervous around new people and will not bark unless it’s at the patterdale next door 😂. She’s never once went to bite me (we’ve had her six months), she’s never shown any negative emotion towards me apart from fear which is obvious, she just sits and watched things. I was terrified of chihuahuas until we got her, there’s one two doors up and fuck me he scares me so much. I still am terrified of the breed, but Molly has helped me realise they aren’t all the same.

My neighbor had a beautiful little chihuaha that would always come say hi to my kid. Even after we just met them, she would come up to us and sniff her hands and beg to be picked up and cuddled, he'd get so flustered because if he had places to go who's gonna tell the little girl she has to set the friendly cute dog down hahaha. My lovely Lucy, an 8 pound Chihuahua, was a sweetheart of unlimited degree. Her bright brown eyes brimmed with happiness, she was very affectionate, loved me and our other three dogs. Lucy loved toys and surrounded herself with them. I would get another in a heartbeat if I weren't 72 years old and still have my Westie and my Beagle Mix. My Yorkie, who was 15 and my Lucy, died within three weeks of each other. Lucy was approximately 10, was a rescue with several health issues and had a difficult start in life. Love you, Girls! See you at the Rainbow Bridge someday. Lucy bit no one!

Chihuahuas can be trained right and socialized well. My Chihuahua is the sweetest and most social Chihuahua I've met. He's never bitten anyone, and even gets really excited to meet strangers. Most people just don't socialize them right- they love to antagonize their dogs and make them really mean.

I lived next to someone who had a german shepherd, a shiba inu, lab mix and a chihuahua. Every time I went out with my leased Cane Corso, who didn’t bark at them because I don’t allow her to engage with them, they would run back and forth along their fence. Couldn’t even go outside without them going crazy. We could hear them inside the house as well.

My shiba inu was my sisters very first beginner dog. She has depression and he is her ESA. He saved her life. Extremely nice and cuddly. Has never had any issues with aggression and had no issues with training at all. Better behaved than any other dog we've seen. Best dog I've ever seen in my lifetime. Even better than my aussie in my pic. I've never met a mean shiba inu. Only mildly stubborn and too indifferent and lazy to be aggressive or dominant. Rather than blame the breed, blame the people who didn't know anything about dogs before getting the "meme" dog. It's a shame that he has only met mean shibas.

My grandma had a rescue Shiba that was a total mental case. It’s kinda hit or miss because the breed nearly went extinct and is very inbred. He was cool with the cat and dog he lived with. However if he came into contact with any other dog he’d look cool just until it was in reach then go for the kill. No barking no growling just went for the throat out of nowhere. I forgot about this when I was house sitting once and my buddy brought his dog over to visit. As soon as they were in the door Toshi the shiba tried to murder the little guy. Edit: also the vet told my grandma she was crazy for having one since they can be so unpredictable. He loved humans tho.

Can’t be big and bad with your feet off the ground. He’d put up a fight as a puppy. Talking he’d go for the biceps. Now he just stiffens up and pushes his head into my chest to release him. I got a chihuahua after having labradors, Spaniels and Collies. I treated him the same as my other dogs. He walks off lead interacts friendly with other dogs, cries with excitement when my two children come home and showers them with kisses. He is energetic, walks for miles and is a joy to own. It's not the breed it's the owner and the time and effort you put in.

Totally agreed. The schnauzer is temperamental and can be very nippy and stubborn. Scottish terriors also usually don’t like kids, are stubborn and will dig up the yard as well as hate being groomed and nails or feet touched at all. Plus they have a powerful jaw so avoiding their bite is wise. Cavaliers can have smooshed faces and sinus problems but a well bred one should not have this problem

I have a chihuahua and she’s the sweetest, the reason they can be aggressive can be from mishandling/abuse. Lots of people pick up their chis when they don’t want to be picked up + they can be stepped on easily from being so small so they feel they have to protect themselves. However if you respect them and their space they are amazing and friendly dogs!

same, my chihuahua is a literal baby. She gets scared of new people, but has never made an attempt to bite someone who wasn't trying to hurt me. Examples are: I can bring a friend over, and she will stand in the hallway and bark for a while. Once we are relaxed on the couch, she'd come and lay with us. But there was a time my (now estranged) father tried to hit me, and since then, she'd bark and try to bite at that man until he left.

She gets so excited to see me come home. I think it's just loyalty. But I think that any dog that isn't properly handled or abused will try to latch onto a comfort, and become distrusting of anyone around them. Mostly chihuahuas.

@@papaquesitoThere are breeds that are loyal to just one person in the family! Other breeds are loyal to the whole family! While still others will walk off with a stranger for food! Chihuahua is generally an one-person dog! There are some exceptions, it seems, though! Genetics, environment and breed!

I love the way shibas look. I’ve only met one, and it was the most timid dog I’ve ever seen. It wouldn’t even let me walk near it without bolting off

That’s on the owner. They’re good if you train them early. But more importantly socialize them with other people or dogs/animals.

Had one bully and harass my rescue goldendoodle. He wouldn’t let her anywhere near the other dogs at the park and continuously chased her away while throwing in some bites and growls. She never went over to him or tried to say hi, she just wanted to play with one of her friends that happened to be there. Owner was an ass and didn’t do anything about it. My dog was terrified of trying to play with the other dogs after he left and ended up “glued” to her sisters side because she was so scared. About a month later, my dog became besties with a different shiba. They can be good, but there are definitely awful ones that fit the description the trainer said in this video

Our chihuahua was great. People forget that theyre actually working dogs meant to kill rodents, and allert to dangers in the desert. My mom gave our chihuahua the job of keeping the chickens out of the garden and he became the calmest dog ever. Even met new people well. Because he had a job.

Last but not least- *looks over at my 3 Shiba Inus with angel eyes* Every dog has its challenges and the Shiba is no different! But they’re also the most loyal dogs who will love and respect you if as long as you respected them back

I’ve only met one Shiba Inu in my life. I was so impressed with his appearance that I ignored the bite hazard, and just petted him. That is one of the friendliest, coolest looking dogs I’ve ever seen. I’m disappointed to learn that he may have been the exception to the rule.

I’ve never met a mean one. My Shiba male is the best dog I’ve ever had. Loves everyone even my cats.

My shiba is a great dog. Good with kids and strangers. Not good when he’s on a lead. Good on a leash though.

They are absolutely known for aggression if not trained/socialized, otherwise they’ll be fine. Training? You will have to be consistent and out-stubborn them.

@@RiRyn27One always knows where he stands with the Shiba! Just like with a cat! They usually ignore the strangers! I have not met any aggressive ones!

chihuahuas are literally perfectly fine little dogs when socialized correctly. the reason they’re known to be aggressive is because people constantly disrespect their boundaries and mishandle them as though they’re just a stuffed animal and not a real living creature. you’d constantly be on edge too, if you were small enough for nearly EVERYTHING to be a threat to you and on top of that, humans are constantly in your face.
