Im an american, just found out about isle of man because xbox gave the game away for free this month, and since then ive gone down a gigantic rabbit hole about it. It absolutely blows my mind that this isnt the biggest sport in the world, what these drivers do is absolutely amazing. The game itself is scary enough, and I cant finish a lap without crashing, but the straight aways where you can open it up and max out are euphoric. I can only imagine the level of skill and precision amd fearlessness these riders have. Nascar and Moto GP are nothing compared to the isle of man Mountain track

This is pretty old, as John McGuinness now has 23 TT wins & his last one was many years ago. If I heard correctly, John had 15 as of this film. John is a living legend. I wish he’d pack it in now, though. He’s nothing to prove & the risks aren’t getting smaller, are they? Guy retired (with no wins, though many podiums) I believe because he finally “got into girls” and has a kid of his own. He’d always said he couldn’t imagine doing what he did when racing if he had people waiting at home. The Dunlops are definitely worth a full length movie on their own. A special breed.

Great documentary! Guy Martin is such a cool symphatic guy with balls of steel. The IOM TT is is absolute insanity! Bike racing itself is already pretty dangerous and needs extreme concentration and refrexes, but road racing, especially the IOM TT, takes it to another level. Normal roads, pretty narrow, no buffer zones besides the track and tons of bumps and jumps everywhere!

This is fascinating, I've been a few time to watch and it is truly incredible. The most amazing thing is, it's all public roads not on a closed specialist circuit, so there are trees, buildings, walls, fences everywhere and to top it all off the road surface isn't exactly the best. As it's public roads you can go round the circuit and see what is involved..... most of it has NO speed limit at ANY time, so you can go as fast as you want, I don't have the courage to do it on 2 wheels so I did it in my old car (6.2ltr AMG Mercedes), I was passed by a biker on the way up the mountain, think I was up around 130 - 140 at the time..... they shot past me and were gone, must have been well over 170....... bravery and insanity combined
@tjanderson88004 роки тому
Like the saying goes “there are bold riders and there are old riders, but there’s no old bold riders” just seems like eventually you’ll go faster then your angels can fly. I love speed doesn’t matter if it’s 2 wheels 4 wheels or my snowmobile, I always half to feel how fast the machine can go. These guys take it to the limit on edge the entire time, so much respect to the focus needed to compete in the TT. I’ve thought about it and I don’t think id be even close to competitive with these guys. If I decided to go for it I’d be a goner, one mistake all it takes at those speeds.

@jukee67Рік тому
Live life like any super car should be driven...like you stole it. The moment your born into this thing called life and take air into your lungs the only guarantee from that point onward is that you will die. Maybe 5 min later, 5 years, 50 years, etc, etc. Some wish to live for 100 years. Not me. Personally, I drove my body like I stole it both mentally and physically. Many ups, lots of downs, then up again. Absolutely no regrets. I am proud of all of it. No excuses. Always take responsibility for my mistakes and learn from them on top of revisiting them in conversation with no regret. The best times in my life were never scheduled, out of the blue, and didn't cost very much, if anything at all. Expect the unexpected and make sure to avoid being predictable or robotic. Do not be anything your not. Be the real you. The whole world is a stage and even though we are all merely actors on that stage just stick to your character. You must love who you are in order to have a chance at experiencing true love and even then it's not guaranteed. Many people never get to experience true love in this fast and over documented data driven existence. Why? They play a role to get the girl or job or into a certain group. For me, I hate my photo being taken by pausing a moment to smile and fake it. I prefer being part of a photo taken without my knowing from afar while having a laugh or in conversation with friends. I won't deviate from my disliking of my photo being taken...not for no one either. If I was told not to do something or told to avoid it, than it went right on the top of the to do list. Cheap words won't give me the full vision or reason for the care to even mention something. Never fear death. Death is simply the unknown. All of those that depart this place before our time never actually left. Energy never dies it is merely transferred. You just have to talk out loud and focus on their energy that keeps their memories alive and well in your mind. I feel sorry when I read comments like this or a long the same line. My body has become one big pile of receipts while driving it like I stole it. When my time is up this biomechanical suit will be run down and filthy. Look into the bar conversation about getting old from the movie The Guardian. It is a priceless movie scene that does not get enough eyes and ears on it. I wish you best of luck in these unprecedented times with a reset that is fast approaching...from where is the question? Who knows at this point...who cares...too many people allow divide and rule to take over their lives...don't let that happen. Never cover your face especially your smile. It can heal a person or at least make a dying man feel good in those final moments before embarking off into the unknown. No fear.

It's because the northern accents have an up and down tone to them in comparison to southern accents that tend to have a flat tone. This as well as they fact that northerners drop allot of letter in their words is why their accents can be tricky for non Brits (especially non st language English speakers) to understand. The UK has a crazy richness when it comes to cultures and dialects. They change like every 20/30 miles. The reason for that comes from how England came about. It's essentially a mixture of Germanic/Celt/Nordic heritage and now allot more due to globalisation/immigration ofc Guys accent is actually one of the easier northern accents to understand. Scroll through that profile & you'll find a version of "The Senior" which is almost 6 minutes in length; much of the score of the documentary seems to come from this piece (it doesn't all sound like the bit at 1:20 though), and the profile has some other music from the film on it too

This is an unusual thing, folks. An event of long standing which is completely free of corruption. It’s all but impossible to cheat and even if you tried, scrutineering would probably catch you. The fastest bike doesn’t win anyway. In 2023, Peter Hickman broke the outright lap record on a machine that’s not very different from something you could buy from an ordinary motorcycle dealer (SuperSport). They are reworked but they’re not the top of line SuperBikes, out & out racing bikes. That day, no one even on the most expensive SuperBike was going to beat Hickey. There are no performance enhancing drugs that will do anything other than help you into a massive crash. That there’s no a big prize purse probably helps keep the TT honest. There’s probably petty rule tweaking from officials and sponsors (I’m guessing, because this is normal all around the world). But as spectators, many are like me, bikers too, we know it’s man & machine against each other and the road. In this corrupt, ungodly world we’re in right now, with truly evil people plotting against people like you and me, ordinary people who just want to get on with our lives without stealing or hurting others, I respect the mad, honest people competing for honour, ego and something deep inside. I can’t think of any event that comes close to the demands the TT places on people.

Everything is relative... consider the reaction times these guys have, that he *THOUGHT*... "lost the front, I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it,.. Nah, I ain't got it .." and *DECIDES* to 'jump ship' to get away from the bike as it's going down.... *All of that thinking and the decision took place in the blink of an eye while taking a corner at 160+ MPH*
@mrcaboosevg60894 роки тому
Muscle memory plays a big part too, if you spend as much time on bikes as these guys do you'll automatically know when something has gone wrong without thinking. It's like when you do an emergency stop in a car, if someone steps in front of you you press the brake without even thinking about it, just instinct
@PureSPLprix3 роки тому
Its called the ether zone and you arent really thinking just acting, but for some reason after the fact the level of detail that you remember is fucking nuts lol. He caught all of that but missed the pit speed at 60mph.....like you said relative lol
@user-gv4bf4zx2s3 роки тому
@@PureSPLprix That's gonna go down in sports history as one of the greatest injustices EVAH. To penalize a rider THIRTY SECONDS because the accelerated out of the pit lane a fraction of a MPH too fast is just fucking wrong. If I was the guy standing on the podium in first place I would have stepped down below Guy, bc I know that Guy won that race and would not be able to maintain my 'Honor' if I took that win from him..

Bikes are weird. Bikers are weirder. I'm a funeral director (and a biker), and how my job works is we take rotations around the operations of the funeral. So, during my on-call week on the private ambulance I took a call from the Police to attend a fatal RTA. Arrived at scene and seen a motorbike vs car head on. Biker had travelled some distance down the road upon impact, and was instantly dead. The biker was wearing full protective gear, yet, I've never seen nor felt a body like it (and ive dealt with pretty nasty beatings to death etc). I need to measure the body and move the limbs in preparation for embalming etc and every single bone I touched was broken in more than one place. Everything. Helmet gave way and the whole front of his face up the forehead and to the crown had been smashed inwards. Eyes were missing, nose was missing, most of the skin on his face was degloved. His friends (including girlfriend) had all seen it happen and seen his aftermath body on scene, and not one of them gave up riding. Infact, it seemed to reinforce a strong bond amongst the brother and sisterhood of the biking community. There were hundreds of bikers at the funeral and everyone mourned together. They formed a biker cortege and then a guard of honour as we approached the crematorium. How many car drivers do that? To this day bikers of all ages and backgrounds come together and do a memorial ride out on the route he died. It is a strange feeling to know the risks of something so pointless yet be unable to control yourself to partake in it time and time again. And the community that comes with it is amazing, and I believe thats why most of us probably get that lump in your throat/tight chest feeling when you see most of these nutters fall off at the TT. Anyway, Ride safe guys and have fun :-)

Great documentary I love the speed. I can only imagine what it would feel like to go that fast and risk it all. I chuckled when I realized when thy talked about a hare that was the cause of a crash. I would think you wouldn’t notice the impact at those speeds. Wonder if there was anything left of it.

The game itself is scary enough, and I cant finish a lap without crashing, but the straight aways where you can open it up and max out are euphoric. I can only imagine the level of skill and precision amd fearlessness these riders have. Nascar and Moto GP are nothing compared to the isle of man Mountain track
