As a Spurs fan and San Antonio native, its tempting to want Trae young. He has not been surrounded by great talent and I do give him the benefit of the doubt (hey to each their own). But looking at the team currently constructed and other teams salavating at the Hawks best talent which is comprised of just Trae and Murray, I REALLY want us to hold off on going in on a trade for Trae (and they will not trade for young, it was reported). If either one of these dudes is traded in the off season it seals a top 3 pick for the Spurs. The Hawks are screwed because of the trade the Spurs offered to the Hawks that they took. It will be sooo hard for Hawks fans to watch their team give SA their top pick in next years draft for a dude (Murray, who probably wont even be on the team on draft night), and put him right beside Victor Wembenyama. And the Hawks will have NOTHING to show for their horrible season!

As a wolves fan who appreciates all the good things SloMo does for us, I would hardly say he "knocks down shots" with any consistency this year.

I might be in the minority, but Trae feels like a bad fit on the Spurs to me. Yes, he is an excellent passer and might unlock a next level Wemby lob threat, but he's also ball dominant, and heavily offensive-oriented compared to defense. I think the Spurs would be better served developing through internal growth of their young core, the draft, and smaller trades, rather than sacrificing their draft picks and other assets for a long-shot bet on a "win-now" move for a disgruntled flawed "basically untradeable" star.

I remember when people first started talking about Atlanta trading Trae Young. I just thought to myself that people aren't really understanding that Trae Young is not well liked around the league by players or coaches. I want to point something out. Atlanta lost almost 40 some odd games within 10 points or less! So they were in all of these games and weren't able to close it out in the end if they had someone like a Carl Anthony or Porzingis which I know is impossible but a player like that or as close to that as possible then they will actually get into the playoffs and be extremely competitive but they need that for sure.

Any Pelicans' deal is not including BI. CJ + sophomore Hawkins + the better of their two firsts in both 2025 and 2027 (top-4 protected) would get the job done, but that doesn't line up with the Pelicans' MO.

I can understand that the Spurs just chill and wait. There is no pressure to win now, build your roster with a solid draft over the next 2 years around wemby and then maybe 1 or 2 good trades. All this talk about wemby needs a wining team now is bs. Why should the Spurs make any risky moves now? You know the weakness of your team and can build around it. Better perimeter defense and a good floor general. Trae is none of that. One more offseason with good rookies sounds way more like the spurs way.

As a Spurs fan, I'd rather get DeJounte back than Trae. We can see how good DeJounte defensively if he wanted to. Branham, Collins, + the Hawks picks is fine for Dejounte.

You didn’t factor in Trae’s unwillingness to still play great basketball for Atlanta. The organization is willing to trade him not just because he’s playing mid, but rather he’s not willing to play it all. He’s very vocal that he wants to get out, and player who wants out of their teams don’t win series and championships. He will be traded to other teams, because if they need to “win now” then they need a player that wants to “win now” not a player that wants to “leave now”. Edit: He’ll be better with the Spurs.

MN isn’t trading away KAT anytime soon. He’s a key reason why they’re winning. Plus he’s still fairly young and he found his sweet spot as the 2nd best player on the team. The wolves wouldn’t trade away a core player in his prime for a bunch of expendable role players and picks that will turn into more role players. Picks are overrated in the NBA unless it’s in the lottery.

TBH I could see Trae getting traded to the Spurs since he and Wemby both want to win now and are both All-Star/All-NBA players. Though I'd keep Tre Jones as a solid backup since he helps with Young's turnovers and already knows how Wemby works. The trade you mentioned could work, but swap Tre Jones with Malaki Branham or Cedi Osman and the Spurs might be a threat and a half next season.

Wouldn't the Nets be an ideal landing spot for Trae, though I guess it would have to be a 3 team trade because I don't think the Nets would have players the Hawks want, but lots of picks

Trae and Capela for Ingram and McCollum could be interesting. Hawks owe their picks to SAS, so really no reason to bottom out and tank. This keeps them relative and competitive, and possibly makes them better. Pels get an upgrade at PG and C, plus open up more minutes for Murphy and Jones

A trae young for Brandon Ingram basis of swap makes all the sense for both teams for them to both keep convincing themselves they are contenders. With JV going throw in capela and CJ maybe a few other small pieces theres a move there

To me Trae Young looks enticing at first but is a bad choice for the spurs. I'd rather have a pointguard like Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry or Tyus Jones if we think medium/short term. Trae Jones currently is doing a decent job for SA but I'm not sure he can be THE guy to organize the offense long term.

Dejounte was a good defender under poppovich. Crazy that Atlanta got him for defensive purposes and never enforced that. Trae influenced him and all his defence attributes went to shooting

Mavs already have Kyrie and Luka. Trading Lively (a solid rim protector), Hardaway (better catch and shoot than Trae) and others doesn't make any sense. It might get them higher in the season but they can already win in the regular season and need someone who will give them more depth in the play-offs (and Trae is not that guy)

Not to defend Trae Young because I wanted Luka. In that clip you showed he was injured and came back early because it was a play in game with Bulls. He is not as bad at def as people are saying he had his career high in steals. He just undersized and gets posted up or shot over.

Trae is good. Basketball is a team sport. If you put him in a system with players that make sense he will look a lot better and win big games. We have seen him make the conference finals as his teams’s best player. That does not just happen to anyone.

The Hawks need to blow it all up and start the rebuild. There is no one trade that gets them even close to contending with Boston. Making it to the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed just to lose in 4 games shouldn't be anyone's final goal.

I agree for the most part but i can really see a trade involving MIN happening. I think MIN should move KAT and if they can involve a third team and bring in pieces that fit around ANT as well as picks to use as assets.... That would be ideal. I think Naz and Gobert are still an above average big duo. There is dropoff from KAT but youd be gaining much more than you losing. The LAL trade you mentioned would be fantastic fir ATL and MIN, just not sure LAL would do that for Trae.

Lakers don't have enough picks, Bulls will probably want to continue developing Coby White, Spurs sounds good and are probably favourites depending on what the Jazz want to do in the future. Spurs may not have contracts to match, so they probably will trade to Jazz if the Jazz want to compete.

Trea young doesn’t fit the pelicans who need a PG who can defend and is great ball handler with great passing skills they also only need to be role scorer plus the word is pelicans are trying to stay under cap while also having the Lakers first rd pick besides there own first rd pick or the swap with the Bucs with the Holliday deal a few years ago. The pelicans don’t need to get rid of draft picks also don’t know how that works while BI is restricted free agent.

Trae Young is a much smaller, less efficient, and far less mature version of Steph Curry. The Hawks have done squat with this guy the last 6 years. That's enough of a sample size to say that not only can he NOT be the best player on a championship team, he probably won't be the 2nd best player on a championship team.
