Although, this is not a high quality produced video, just looking at the surroundings makes my heart race. I own 125 acres of mountainous land in Virginia. It is part of a larger tract that was originally owned by my pawpaw and divided upon his death. The land is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia not far from the popular “Natural Bridge” which George Washington is said to have thrown a coin over it. How he did that, is not believable to me, but as someone who believes in Bigfoot, why would I not believe George Washington. The area is known to support many caves and several renowned large cave systems. There are also many old abandoned mines scattered through the mountains. Our land has a good number of those old mines and a few caves. South River also runs through our property. Pawpaw said he believed the Bigfoot migrated and made use of the caves and old mines. We were warned to not go near the mines and caves, not just because of some dangerous being, but because of the highly poisonous snakes in the mountains. As kids we had seen people exploring caves on TV shows and since we sorta saw ourselves as modern day Lewis and Clark explorers, the temptation to go explore was palpable. I will never forget the day that my 2 oldest brothers and I (I was the oldest child) planned to sneak off to one of the caves nearest our home. After breakfast and after our chores were finished, we had the days free to do whatever we chose. During the summer, most days were spent swimming in the river or fishing and yes, we did go all over those mountains, but never to a cave or mine. However, without telling a soul where we were going, the 3 of us left home that morning and set out to one of the caves. Long story short, we did make it to one of the caves. It had taken us almost 2 hours of walking over steep terrain that hot day to reach the cave nearest our home. It was located on the face of a steep incline and the entrance to it was about 8 feet high and stretched about 15 ft wide. From somewhere above it, there must have been a spring, because several small streams trickled over the opening. It really looked like one of those beautiful scenes that you see on TV. I can still see the crystal clear water sparkling and glistening from the sun that filtered through the trees as it flowed over green moss. I drank from my cupped hands the cool , sweet water that filled them. My brothers stood under the smaller streams letting the water splash over their faces and into their mouths. It’s memories such as this that remind me of how fortunate we were to grow up in such a beautiful place. There were signs of animals having been in the cave. We did find some bones, but nothing too dramatic. We talked about what a great place it would make to hang out in, but unfortunately it was just too far from the house. After spending a good deal of time in the cave we made the 2 hour journey home . It was late in the evening when we finally made it back only to discover that no one was at home. Mom hadn’t said she was going anywhere and she would never leave any of us behind without us knowing. It was dark when she and and dad and the rest of my brothers pulled into the driveway. Daddy was carrying my youngest brother. When he came through the door we saw the cast on my brother’s leg and that’s when my 2 brothers and I caught the whipping of our lives. My brother had fallen from the loft in the barn and broken his leg. Mom had been calling for us to come home because she had to take him to the emergency room, but we were nowhere to be found. Not only was she worried over my brother, but she had to leave us not knowing where we were. We finally had to fess up. Then, daddy told us to go cut some shoestring berry bushes, then he lined the 3 of us up and gave us a good thrashing. That was 35 years ago and we have never returned to that cave, BUT, I am seriously thinking about going there one day. We didn’t discover Bigfoot that day, but there were slide marks on the ground at the entrance of the cave. Obviously, some sort of animal had been making its way in and out, but we figured it was nothing more than some small furry critters. I can’t lie about it, I was nervous about entering the cave, but excited. Except for the water that made a trickling sound, all was still and quiet inside the cave, but it certainly could provide good housing for a being like Bigfoot. My grandpa first warned me of them when I was a little girl. However, he didn’t call them Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, or any of the names of today. He grew up deep in the mountains and had never heard those names. He married a Cherokee woman and although grandma never experienced Bigfoot, her people were well aware of it. Her ancestors called it Tsul 'Kalu. Growing up, on occasions we would hear vocalizations that we weren’t familiar with, coming from the woods. When those noises would begin, we kids were told not to venture from the yard. We asked daddy what it was and he would tell us that it was just a panther passing through, but as I grew, I began researching panthers and I doubted that what we were hearing was a panther. As kids, we trekked all through those mountains. Eventually, my brothers would hunt the woods for wild game. We did hear and see odd things in the woods that we couldn’t attribute to any animals that we knew, but a BIGFOOT never crossed our minds. In fact, we didn’t know what a Bigfoot was. We grew up on that land and never encountered a BIGFOOT. However, I did have my first encounter as a young pregnant mother. I had inherited land from pawpaw and built a home. I unexpectedly had a terrifying encounter with two of the beings. I was fortunate to have escaped with my life, but I never walked alone or unarmed again in the woods. Years later, my brother had an even worse encounter with one of the beings. I know they exist. I know people have seen them. I do believe they have killed humans, but I also believe that can choose to ALLOW you to live, because they could have killed me and my brother. Furthermore, I believe that as kids in those mountains, they were around us and we didn’t even know it.

I was unaware of humans possessing eyeshine in the dark. Interesting revelation.
