Sometimes the pressure of doing it live is immense. You forget your training. You discard hours of consistently nailing it with technique and strategy that works for an impulse feeling in the moment. Happens to the best of us. You hate to see it.

I had the same issue with guessing when the toast was going to pop out of the toaster. I had an 97.8% success rate behind closed doors, but whenever i performed in front of a mate that would drop down to the low 70's. I've been working with a sports psychologist for the last 8 months to determine what's causing me to under perform in front of a crowd and it's been really helpful. Don't be afraid to ask for help, even the best need guidance some times.

the real train platform skill is knowing which door will position you closed to the platform exit at the station you're heading to, the feeling pride from being first up the steps off a peak our train is immense

What sucks is when that door, the closest door at the other end, is nearest to zero seats and has an obnoxious thing on the wall so it's very uncomfy to wait at that spot.

When I travelled to Japan google maps will tell you which part of the train to get on for the quickest exit. Also the screens above the doors will show you where the stairs are at the train station you are about to arrive to. And to top it off, there is no guessing where the train will stop, they have station doors and painted gueue lines.

Definitely a skill ive slowly picked up over the years of using public transport. Another skill id love to see that really saves time is finding the right carriage/door to get off the train directly infront of the stairs at your stop
@MitchLally
@MitchLally 7 місяців тому
In Japan there are markings on the platform for where to stand so you’re right in front of a door - also when you plug into google which station you’re going to it’ll tell you exactly which carriage to be in so that you’re closest to the exit when you arrive. Australian transport is in the dark ages compared 😂

how is it a skill? it all depends on the train driver and how he slows down and stops along the platform.. educated guess at best based off the last trains stopping position lol

It's hard to do in Melbourne because different trains have the doors in different spots. In Brisbane all the trains are consistent so you can see the darker areas on the platform to see the wear people don't walk

If you look at the white paint along the platform, in Town Hall at least, you can see the faint darker areas where people step on and off the train. Most drivers are on the money and stop at the same place each time, but there is about a 1m variability. I always wondered if I was the only one who noticed this.

This has many variables with the configuration of Metro train doors as the HMCT, Siemens, Comeng & Xtrapolis all have doors in different spots & not to mention the V/Line who have H set, N set carriages all with different positions hauled by an N class locomotive & not to mention the sprinters & velocities

I used to use trains every day and had worked this out. its not a guessing game but rather looking for clues. I would look at the white pain between the gap and the markers. you can seen the paint is darker where the heaviest foot traffic is. that's where I would then stand and I never failed. you can even see the evidence of this in this clip and where he stands originally is darker than where he moves. you can also see those dark spots evenly down the platform in this clip. thank me later commuters
