Friends dad was not only into metal detecting, but gold panning and scuba diving with a dredge hose in various rivers. He not only hit the ghost towns and mines in Calif. & Nevada, but also abandoned garbage dumps and places where sheep herders would graze their sheep. Couldn't believe the amount of stuff he'd found...like dog tags from the 20's which he said he could sell for $20 each, different kinds of bottles and in different colors from being out in the sun for decades. He had a lot of gold coins....showed me 6 boxes of coins he was going to put in his banks safety deposit box. Each box held at least 60 coins and of course, each coin had its own protective sleeve. He and his friend went out somewhere in the Calif. desert, with his friends wife with them. His friend had bought his wife a good metal detector and showed her how to use it. She started playing with it as soon as they arrived at the spot and ends up finding a dozen $20 gold pieces in a leather bag under a rock?! Oh yeah, she was hooked now.

I have been into watching the explore abandoned places for the last year, and now have moved on to watching people go metal detecting. I just found your channel last night and would like to thank you for having such great camera work. The camera is being held steady, and the close ups in the field are top notch. I enjoy that you spliced in the really clean close ups of the coins as well. You have a personality and voice that are perfect for this. I am so glad I found your channel. Its funny, but as kids in the 70s we went exploring old homesteads but we didn't have cameras or metal detectors. I once found an old beer stein but my ex took it when we split up.

We were dredging the ocean off of NJ and pumping the sand up on the beach, we ran into a large clump of Spanish 8 reale coins, the size of silver dollars. I have 1 that has absolutely no sand blasting on it from 1771. Hundreds of them were found.

I hiked the western part of Virginia in the early eighties and with my trusty metal detector I was adjacent to the appliation trail. The one that goes a thousand miles east coast. And found countless buttons, hand forged spikes,square nails and countless coins, a rather small metal bar that originally I thought it was lead much later I found out someone had sprayed it silver and after it had been it my tool box I discovered that it was a roughly made gold bar and it had a value of $2300.00

What a spectacularly Historic Colonial home site Brad. The Occupation of that home dates to before the French and Indian War to after the birth of the United States of America. Not many have studied history, to know that the King of England reserved the right of coin mintage in its colonies to Britain itself, in an effort to control the trade of its Colonies. Because of lack of coinage, barter and letters of mark were often used. Because of lack of banks, family wealth was accumulated and retained in Precious Metals, mostly silver. Illegally printed or minted currency in the British colonies was always backed by Spanish Milled Dollars, the Reale or the piece of 8 and its fractionals. The Spanish Silver from the oldest mint in the New World was legal tender in the United States until the 1850s. You can expect that Spanish Silver came to VT by way of the Caribbean (Sugar Islands) in trade for sugar products such as Rum and Molasses. Those were super finds Brad ! Two Half Bit coins, a British Copper and a US half cent ! Your finds span a very historic time period in Vermont. From when it was known as the "Grants", to the Republic of Vermont, and finally to the State of Vermont. Thank you for sharing my friend. :-))
@jimgriffiths9071
@jimgriffiths9071 6 років тому
Excellent comment. Allow me to add a thought. Most of these cellar holes Brad finds can date to ex French and Indian war veterans who had been paid off in scarce currency and land grants. Hence the spanish silver in their pockets as they built their humble cabins.

Actually Spain conquered and settled in what is know today as Mexico . Mexico was actually included most of california and texas including other states , thats why there are so many Spanish names all over the the U.S. A great part of the U.S. was actually part of the Spanish Empire that later turned to Mexico and likely currency was printed in Mexico city when it wasnt yet called Mexico, more like Spanish headquarters . Part of Spain's conquest agenda was the conversion of the indigineous people of the region to catholicism, hence so many spanish names all over. Capitol of California =Sacramento = meaning Sacrament. San Francisco = meaning St Francis so on and so forth. Later U.S. Mexico, Guatemala, Costarica, Honduras , El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezula Argentina the list goes on, "ALL SPAIN" found independece progresively through different times and circumstances.

Brad, you're quickly becoming my favorite UKpostsr... "I can't believe it," he casually remarked while cleaning the silver coin from the Eighteenth century. I thought the exact same thing! I seen a video once, and the guy walked over a chunk of perfectly square concrete buried in a field at an old home site,the top was flush with the ground. He walked right over it. And decided to detect and look under it on the way out on a whim... And found a old broken glass jar with gold coins in it from the 1800's!!! Also, in other videos ive seen, more then a few too.. People look for the biggest tree in the area they are in and usually find stuff buried around the base of it...Cause Back in the day, places like these are easy for people to remember and find if they ever had to leave and come back to find thier stash.. They would never find it if they chose a random place out in the field, but a white rock like that or a huge tree is always easy to find your way back to. . So ALWAYS check spots like these

@thegreatwhitenorth8754 6 років тому
But mr. Limpdickit, he said there isnt any other quartz around the area he is in. And its the only one there,its so out of place. Which tells me somebody put it there. And If there was gold nuggets in the area, he would of found some. And the eastern gold is hard to find cause there isnt much there, hence why everyone came out west to get it

I built an off grid cabin bordering a national forest and within a few miles of a civil war battleground. The old turnpike through the mountains was part of the road leading to my property . I found lots of old treasures including a civil war era pistol that I donated along with many other cool finds to the civil war museum at the local state park . I was antique crazy for years unfortunately someone broke into my cabin stealing and destroying so I lost most of my finds . Great video! Found the same silver coin (1776 Hispana "dime size coin") in the upper Hudson valley along the bank of a pond hand dug by slaves. Also we also found King George coppers at a site reported to an old fur traders shack. Really puts one's imagination into gear!
