I don't think you could capture the magic of that truck again. It was made at a time when we all wanted smaller trucks anyway, and then you told us it's fast too and people loved them. They were basically useless, but it was the time when everyone was falling in love with trucks, not just those that needed the utility. Now what people want is big, tough, and fast. The light and medium duty trucks are nothing in the market compared to their bigger brothers, and nothing compared to the days when rangers, and S10s were everywhere

@@JasonGroom I mean it could be argued that people don't care about practicality when they turn heavy duty trucks into hideous pavement princesses. Plus look how many people want Raptors and all the high level trims/models only to use them as grocery getters. People that like speed build their own, but there's a rather large market for suckers who will pay 6 figures for something they will never push to the limit, let alone maintain properly, just so they can buy another one in a couple years.

Yeah so the gmc syclone (1991) on Wikipedia 0-60 is 4.3secs but I looked on other websites and it’s 5.3 car & driver, 4.9 motortrend, and 5.4 motor week.

GM was very good at making fast turbo 6 cylinders in that era, before that was the Grand National. They could be made even faster too. GM used low boost, what people used to do is modify the waste gates and raise the boost. Factory was like 8lbs and people would raise it to like 13 if memory serves correct. My father was a GM master mechanic, they were always replacing these engines that were under warranty that people modded then changed back after they broke them. I think GM changed their warranty policies after that, forget the details.

The typhoon was dope as well. Go to the gm history garage. If u can get it. Worked there for a bunch film shoots and transformers. I had such a motorsports boner everytime I get to work there. I spent so many after hours just going up and down all over every vehicle in there. It's better than black lake and I got to see super secret stuff there.

Syclone was $26,000 new, adjusted for inflation today $49,086. Almost every truck on that list that is faster than the Syclone is at least twice as expensive.

What helped it out was it being so lightweight and it being all wheel drive. It only produced 290hp which is roughly 90hp-110hp over stock 4.3 depending on the reference your looking at.

A GMC Typhoon is still my top dream car, aside from an r34 or an s2000. The syclone is amazing too, but the Typhoon is just so freaking awesome. It looks rad, it's an amazing sleeper, has room for passengers, and you can eat corvettes for lunch lol. Last thing, even though it's obviously a ridiculous truck, the srt 10 is kinda rad too 😁

Our small town dealer got a Syclone. The owners 18 YO son borrowed it off the lot one night and nearly killed himself and his buddy when he put it into a sign pole at high speed when he failed to make a curve.

Yea and let's not forget about the expense that went into developing, marketing and producing the TRX as opposed to the Cyclone. Cyclone was tens of thousands...Trx is hundreds of millions.

I remember when the Syclone came out. What a way cool truck. What made it so stupid fast to 60mph was its all wheel drive launch. Many of the earlier trucks, including the original SRT may have lost the 0-60 race, but at the quarter mile would have pulled well ahead of the Syclone. Those were fun times. The Buick Gran National hit the streets. The Viper. Many cool changes were happening. I will never forget the first time I heard the supercharger screaming as F150 Lightening came flying by. YEs, the trucks now are much faster, BUT most are all financially out of the average persons reach. Gotta love the modern day tuners. Plug it in and add instant performance to your truck. Good times. Ohhh, what's so crazy about that when even a Natural asspirated Porsche 911 GT3 with a 4.0 litre flat six can do 0-60mph(0-100km/h) in 3.0 (3seconds flat), and has a top speed of 197mph(318km/h). And don't excuse the Syclone saying that it's a truck, it's not a truck, forget the racecar supercharged V6 that runs on jet fuel, even the suspension setups aren't suspensions from a truck, it's just not a truck. It's just a slower sports car engine matted to an old-school six speed manual transmission with a body of a truck.

@@johndavidson3424 The Syclone is a truck. It was a mini truck and essentially a 4WD S-10 with an Astro van transfer case, turbo charger, and lowered suspension. But it was no less a truck than a Ford Ranger, Mazda B Series or Toyota Pickup was at the time. The reason it had a 500lb payload was because of the lowered suspension and hauling more could cause the suspension to hit the bump stops and cause a harsh ride. But it wouldn't break the truck.

@@johndavidson3424 racecar v6? I had the same engine in my 2000 Sierra. It's a 350 small block with 2 cylinders cut off it. Sure as shit didn't feel like anything more than that in a half ton truck. But supercharged in a truck with less than half the weight, an AWD system, and a couple other goodies, it could totally do some work
