I don't know much on the topic, but the problem that Texas windmills are said to have is that they aren't winterized in preparation for this very rare weather here. In Michigan they may be better maintained to handle the harsher conditions.

@@sunshine3914 okay guys I'm from Canada and we are on our third week of -30 C. So here are a few tips to keep warm. Layers are the most important. If you can find a pair of long johns (look it up if you don't know what those are) that will help. Use mittons not gloves and you want to put wool socks on your feet and pull them up over the bottom of your pant legs. I am not joking, I grew up on a farm and when you have to spend hours out in the cold feeding cattle, you learn how to dress for the weather. Good luck, stay warm out there and buy a gas powered generator for the next time.

California is Choosing to shut down the electric grid to reduce the risk of forest fires, which is high lately due to the drought. The grid didn't Fail and they do turn it back on, once the high winds die down. And it's in the summertime, so people aren't freezing to death.
