Fuchsia OS isn't fully developed yet but there is a operating system based on Fuchsia OS called DahliaOS. if you want to try Fuchsia OS and right now then try DahliaOS. Many reports are also saying that Fuchsia OS will run Android and Linux apps.

Zircon is a custom kernel, but it's not a customized Linux kernel. It's derived from the LK kernel (or Little Kernel) for embedded devices. The LK Kernel released under the MIT license. The Linux kernel as well as any derivatives must be released under the GNU-GPL 2 license. I'm not sure what license they're using for Zircon, but I know Fuschia is under the BSD, MIT, and Apache licenses.

From the Fuchsia is not Linux page "Zircon is the microkernel underlying the rest of Fuchsia. Zircon also provides core drivers and Fuchsia's libc implementation." So Zircon is not a fork of the monolithic Linux kernel.

@kilObit DahliaOs is more an idea than anything meaningfully currently related to Fuchsia or zircon. They're designing all their UI in flutter, so presumably it could be ported to Fuchsia; however, it's essentially flutter UI running in a linux environment until such a point as some sort migration to use the actual fuchsia or zircon to power it.

That said, the Dahlia team has got a version of Google Fuchsia running on real hardware already... so the next step will be the porting. They're not just going to leave it as-is, obviously.

Zircon isn't Linux based. They wrote it from scratch, and it utilizes the microkernel architecture.

Very interesting. Whats the benefit over Chrome OS Flex though ? IMHO biggest advantage of using google play store is that what I actually did - I gave to an older person (that don't have a PC and never used one) a chromebook and said "look its simple - you can use all the apps you are familiar with, that you use on your phone and have a bigger screen and normal keyboard" and just like that someone that was a bit scared of using a PC start to use it.

'Full Desktop'? Chromebooks can do that now, but to run Linux apps you need to reboot and select the alternative OS with dual boot.

I'd think it'd be unlikely for any Windows compatibility layers to come to any OS running the Zicron kernel giving it's not POSIX compliant and the most prolific compatibility layer used in PROTON and Crossover, that being WINE, works via taking NT kernel calls and providing open-source implementations that direct said calls to their POSIX equivalents.

@yabkoguro Most likely wouldn't as again the most popular Windows compatibility layer, WINE, is only available for POSIX compliant OSes(Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Dragonfly BSD, Solaris, Illumos, Haiku, and AIX).

Fyde is a ChromeOS fork. There is no GoogleOS. Fuchsia OS is not even close to release. If any, they will support Linux apps and Android apps. Not Windows.

ChromeOS is different from these operating systems. This will replace Android maybe, but it will not replace ChromeOS because they are fundamentally different.

As a desktop OS Linux will do a lot more for it than Android. Especially if Wine works, then you can add most of Windows' applications to that list.

Why do you type bullshit when you know its bullshit. 'most of windows applications' only a small portion of Windows native applications run good enough to be considered workable via Wine. Office 365 still runs like piss and Outlook does not work regardless what version you are using, you HAVE to use VM and create a passthrough installation method so stuff like Office 365 can sort of work natively.

@@SMGJohn i would disagree with that, most apps (not games) do indeed work fine in wine. As for Microsoft apps, they intentionally don't want you to be able to use them on Linux.

I just want a mobile OS which supports LUKS encryption natively. Right now, it's kinda hard to read my LUKS encrypted external nvme ssd drive on mobile. PS: Ideally, I would like to find a mobile phone which supports pluggable 2280 nvme ssd drive and luks encryption. So far, no such product existing.

Why are you fooling people with a completely different OS? DahilaOS is super different from Fuchsia OS, and it doesn't use any kind of facilities provided by Fuchsia (no google services at all) except the Zircon kernel which it only uses for armv7 or aka weak/low-powered/embedded processors DahilaOS is based on Flutter and has their custom Desktop Environment and Window Manager + Linux apps (Files, Store, Android Subsystem For Linux aka Waydroid etc..) Although at first Pangolin Shell (the desktop shell DahillaOS uses) was a fork of FuchiaOS's Shell but it sucked so much eventually they wrote it from scratch So please don't use Fuchsia as a synonym to DahilaOS. It's a completely different OS with a different POV. Stop scamming people and sharing incorrect information

I enjoyed you video until you said Xircon was linux-based. Xircon is google's replacement for the Linux Kernel. I expect that at some point, Google will pay for Xircon to have UNIX certification. As It was designed to, Xircon is able to function well with Linux. It can control a Linux kernel if necessary. Internally, they are running versions of Android that are completely Linux-free.

This is something Google is working on for years. Also when Google sraps any project, they will use it's resources to develop some other. If Fuchsia is not going to be public, they will use all these in the Android itself.

It's open source but not under the GPL, also the kernel(Zicron which ISN'T BASED ON LINUX) and userland is developed by Google so despite it being open source it's still going to be dominated by Google.

No, Zircon is not a custom build of Linux kernel as you say, it's totally independent and has it's own line of development. As for DahliaOs, it totally defeats the purpose of Zircon and Fuchsia, because Fuchsia is made based on Zircon and Zircon is not based on Linux, so DahliaOs is trying to reproduce the look and feel of Fuchsia but has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's probably yet another Linux distro that tries to attract investors that don't know anything about tech...

Not really. DahliaOS does *not* defeat the purpose of Zircon OR Fuchsia, because the *end goal* of DahliaOS is to be a Zircon distro (nothing to do with Fuchsia, other than that Fuchsia is itself, a *different*, proprietary Zircon distro). Half of the Dahlia people are using Linux temporarily, so they can write, test, and run the UI in Flutter (cross-platform programming lang)... and the other half of the Dahlia people are using Fuchsia temporarily, so they can port it onto "bare metal" with all the drivers and support structure. Then they will combine the two. Whether this approach works or not, I have no idea, only time will tell.

@@the_real_vdegenne The current public version of DahliaOS is a graphical Linux shell written in Dart (Flutter). It's cross-platform enough that compiling the Flutter code on Fuchsia is almost *trivial*, if it's coded right. But there is a *test* version of DahliaOS that is Fuchsia modified to run on bare metal. I know *exactly* what I'm talking about, and I resent your implication that I'm an idiot.

@@the_real_vdegenne Kernel-wise, as I've said, Linux is just a temporary stopgap for DahliaOS. The beta version will use a Fuchsia backend. Give it another nine months, if the Dahlia team DOESN'T announce (full-ish) Fuchsia compatibility by then, I'll be happy to admit that I was wrong. They already have the Fuchsia kernel running on real hardware.

Google has not created 3 operating system. Fuchsia will be it's first operating system. Android is a Linux OS that Google acquired, purchased. Chrome OS is a debian based distro google did not create Ubuntu Gentoo or Debian. So Chrome OS is a distro like tens of thousands of other people in the living rooms have copied. Fuchsia seems to be their first project.

In 2022 I bought a new notebook from tuxedo with tuxedo-Os for 1500 euro. I use Ubuntu since 2016 on desktop. This notebook is very complicated and they have a very bad support. They promote, that ubuntu is running on it. This is not true. I had a lot of problems with this notebook. No VPN running. I would not buy it any more.

Bullshit. Phoenix OS is *based on* Android. The reason Fuchsia is even being developed is because Android, and Java, have a lot of cruft under the hood. Likewise, the whole Chrome OS idea of having Web-apps for everything is also not tenable. So Google needs to converge on something that doesn't have serious flaws. And, for better or worse, Fuchsia and Flutter seem to be it - but they're not ready for prime time, and developing an OS from scratch is slow.

It looks nice, but I do not care about this os, at all, and to be frank nobody should. If I were not forced to use android on my smartphone, I would install linux on my samsung phone. On the desktop I will always go full Linux, it is so good nowadays, and has huge support community, and unbelievable customizability, and freedom,(and lets not forget second to none privacy/safety) until someone will really force me to use somethng else, I cannot see any better option out there.
