Lack of International cuisine, crying cab drivers who really like not to use meter and charge more, inflation, things changing overnight, overpopulation and less greenery are all valid points. Wonderful hospitable people and beautiful Turkiye deserves better.

The Young People of Turkey are some of the kindest, coolest, and some of the most potential filled people I have met in my travels (at least the folks in Istanbul). Despite the difficulties the youth face they were gracious, found joy where they could, and never acted cruelly. They deserve so much better than the situation they are in 💔

Most people complain that Turkey is a racist place , with hostility to foreigners if they don’t speak Turkish or look as foreigners , They are also violent towards foreigners , it’s hard to find English speakers , the country is beautiful but the people have ruined it as highlighted by the many negative reviews about how awful most people can be , from scams to hostility , turkeys economy needs tourism but such negativity makes many people say it’s not worth it people go to holiday to relx not to get abused , if you love turkey you need to be honest a true friend is honest friend .

You missed a big one - the fact that probably 90% of Turkish people smoke!! And it seems only worse with the younger generation. After spending most of my adult life in the US, and travelling throughout Europe, this is quite shocking to me. And it's also quite mysterious how the insane inflation over the past couple years seems to have not affected the price of cigarettes that much...hmm, I wonder why?
@Turkishle
@Turkishle 3 місяці тому
True :((
@sandrainthesky1011
@sandrainthesky1011 3 місяці тому
No, that’s actually a good point. People that smoke have amazing freedoms in Turkiye and aren’t shunned by everyone and everything around them forcing a constant state of anxiety in life! I had smoked for 49 years and loved to be in Turkiye because of this. I still will even though I no longer smoke, plus it’s cool to see Turkish people have freedoms like we had in Canada many years ago.
@ulysse21
@ulysse21 3 місяці тому
@@sandrainthesky1011 Yes. And I'd like to tell sheldonnelson1887 that we are on the other hand quite shocked by the level of freedom degradation in western countries the last decades, and that's ironic how in the other side we witness the reverse tendancy. It seems like agressive marketing leading to a preformatted way of thinking has taken over the west in the name of an infinite quest of perfection in health, comfort, security... this has always lead to a decadence state. Just don't forget that the USA are the ones who created the cigarettes industry and made it a global trend. And as everything coming from the US hits the world with a 10 to 20 years delay, you don't have to be surprised by the effect of the US marketing soft power. Thank Philip Morris and their competitors

Once on a plane, the Turk next to me lit a cigarette. - I told him it was bothering me. - Smoking is not allowed here. - But it bothers me.. He then put out his cigarette. (In parentheses: In Hungary, it is forbidden to light a cigarette in a common place, even in some restaurants a room is designated for this, if it is not designated, it is prohibited everywhere, including in the washroom.)

I think this is a fair list. I spend the winter in Istanbul with my partner, and for the rest of the year, I am a farmer in the UK, with some flying visits to come and see the sunshine. The only thing I would say about traffic and general chaos is that actually Istanbul is a very quiet city in the morning. I think people start and finish their day a bit later here than in cities in the UK. For this reason, I find my morning walks in Beşiktaş to be particularly dreamy when compared to home. The streets are so empty. Probably i see as many cats as people, and that is just the way i like it 😅 Great channel.

Since 2016 I have been going to Turkey every year to work and then on holiday. The most important thing I see is the lack of education. I was shocked when my colleague told me that 65% of the country is made up of primary school graduates or people who have never been to school. People's friendliness, helpfulness and compassion are the things that attract me to Turkey. The economic conditions are now beyond my comprehension. There is an incredible inflation. I really cannot believe how they do not rebel against these conditions. For now, my dream is to settle in Turkey in my retirement but let's see what time will show.

This is so sad, because Türkiye has so much to offer and potential, with the history, the East meets West, cuisine, music. The youth are far more ahead of their time. Having green spaces and less buildings does calm the mind. I am not sure how true it is, but the immense pressure on the male household of the family to bethe main breadwinner of the family is huge. That needs to change. My cousins came back from Istanbul in November, usually they love the place. This time the taxi driver like dropped than half an hour's walk from the hotel, even when there was another side road which was nearer the hotel. People were less 'smiley'. Maybe the hard economic times is just having impact. Also, in other small cities of interests like Trabzon and surrounding area, it would help if they could improve the hospitality industry, especially in hotels for visitors. Need to promote other smaller cities in Türkiye, not just tmmhe main touristy ones. Hopefully, the powers that be can see this and try and do something. Türkiye is still a very special and beautiful country with lovely people❤. If it is any consolation, we had a doctors strike in the UK and narrowly avoided a train and tube strike, UK is so expensive as well. We have a incompetent government and a squatting PM who is useless.

Full agreed to all of that! I was born in Istanbul and have lived here all my life. And then I had a chance to make Erasmus in Spain. That's where i realized all of the things that you mentioned. The cities well designed, not packed, the traffic is considerably controlled. In addition to your words, after coming to my homeland, I realized the people here are extremly unhappy, anxios and impatient. I missed to say hello to a stranger or smile to her/him. Turkiye's president Erdoğan has words about this situation: "We betrayed to this city, we are still". I am also really really sad. I've been all of the European capitals and important cities. Istanbul is probably the most special. Now like you i am considering to leave this speacial city.

Canım Can! I loved your video! Who would be so honest in the US or China? I spent months travelling around Turkiye last year and will be coming back for the same time this year. I travelled all over İstanbul, Bursa, Konya, Kapadokia, Söğüt (Home to Ertuğrul Bey!), Ankara, Sille, and villages inbetween. I had taught myself a little Türkçe before arriving and this is what I found: Everywhere everyone was friendly and helpful. I got lost a couple of times, and people, including Syrian refugees, would walk with me as far as a kilometer to get me back on track. Twice I had taxi drivers give me a free ride or a discount -- one was just so happy I was learning Turkish and the other because I helped some Persian pilgrims find their way to Mevlana's Memorial in Konya. Turkish people are so warm! Farmers invited me into their homes, long distance bus drivers treated me to tea, the local hotel owners would help me set up my reservations in the next town, and the neighborhood restaurants and bakeries whenever I returned a second time would give me portions on the house or fix me special dishes when I had stomach problems -- and that includes İstanbul! And whenever I visited a Mosque, everyone made me feel so "at home" even though I was unfamiliar with praying Namaz. The kids again and again adopted me at their büyükanne or grandma. I have lived in Asia for 12 years and your country is like a garden of fresh air. The trains, long distance buses, and local dolmas all work. People helped me with trams, subways and ferries. The banks and ATMs work (not true for China outside the top cities). Doğrudur! Turkish food is fresh and the service splendid. Yes, I did miss Vietnamese and Mexican food, but I did find all kinds of Arabian places. I did not miss seeing the troubled drug addicts and mentally ill beggars that are sadly everywhere in the US. I felt safe and secure (and I've been to 20 countries). With now more than more than 250 universities, the young people of Turkiye do want to get educated. No place is perfect, but the country is moving in the right direction and doing it well. We Americans can learn so much from you -- hospitality, patience, taking care of family, good manners, respect for elders and kindness to strangers. Maşallah, you're country is wonderful!

When living in Dubai, we used to get a lot of imported products from turkey, and I always told my wife to buy turkish products even if they're more expensive so we could support their economy. As a native Bulgarian spending lots of time in Istanbul due to my Istanbulian man, the lack of food variety annoys me. In the first few months to a year, I was enjoying it but soon after that when I started craving international food, it wasn's easily accessible. The other thing that I am still trying to figure out is where are the female cyclists or group gatherings, rooms for bouldering (climbing), the underground events, literature dirty readings, international comic standups, and stuff like that. And I guess the extreme polarisation between people, that's actually a dangerous bit, worse than the inflation.

I am frequently in Istanbul and love the city, agree on most points especially the love of concrete which makes me sad. When I say I love Istanbul, I do except for those districts on the outer parts of Istanbul. The food being 90% Turkish is understandable, it’s good food and it reminds me of Italy, basically everything is Italian. I do not know where to find Persian, Indian, Korean food in Italy ;)

The part on concrete was surprising for me. Just an example I gave in another comment, where I compare Istanbul to one of your big cities in Italy, Aka Florence. Which one is greener then in your opinion ? Come on, did you have walks in all Istanbul or just the old part ? did you visit the asian part ? the north part of the city ? If you stay in Levant, suleymenie, moda, around galata or in balat, and some areas to the west part of european side full of immigrants, of course it will look all overcrowded and full of concrete, but that's just a quarter of the city. Istanbul is full of parks, surrouned by forests and green hills that dive into Bosphorus.
@carolinematta5764
@carolinematta5764 3 місяці тому
@@ulysse21 it’s too difficult to compare a town with around 700,000 population with a city of 19 million. In the whole of Europe (the continent I know) there is a lot of concrete in newer areas. It would be beautiful if new developers put more emphasis on creating nice to live environments. Istanbul does have some new builds which are built in an attractive Turkish architectural style in central areas and hopefully it will continue this way.
@ElizabethAnn77

It’s a fair list! I visited Istanbul in October for 7 days and transportation was a no we walked to most of our outings. We loved the food and being American people where curious about us as much as we were curious about them. We visited the European side one day and it seamed to be busier than the Asian side.
