In verse one Paul reveals he is still an Israelite, even after his conversion. Then Paul refers to two different groups of Israelites during the time of Elijah. There were the Baal worshippers, and there was the faithful "remnant". In verse five Paul says there is also a faithful "remnant" of Israelites during his time. This must be the Israelites who have accepted Christ, as on the Day of Pentecost. Paul uses the two olive trees as a symbol of the New Covenant Church made up of believing Israelites, and believing Gentiles grafted together into the same tree. The unbelieving Israelites have been broken off but can be grafted back in through faith in Christ in verses 23-24. Verse 26 is the problem for many modern Christians. What does the verse actually say, and how is it changed by many in the modern Church. I have heard two of our nations famous preachers say the following. "And then all Israel will be saved..." I have heard another say the following. "And all Israel will be saved..." What does God's Word, recorded by the Apostle Paul actually say? Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: The English word "so" is translated from the Greek word "houto", which is an adverb of manner, instead of an adverb of timing. Some have changed the word from "so" to "then", in order to change the meaning of the verse. How will all of the "remnant" of Israel from Romans 9:27 be saved? The answer is found in the verses that precede verse 26 and are found below. Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. Rom 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? Paul quoted from the OT in referring to the Deliverer coming out of Sion to pay for sin. Did this happen at Calvary, or will Jesus die again for His people in the future? Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Verse 28 can only be understood by looking at how Paul started the passage. He started with two different groups of Israelites and he ends the passage in the same way. There are two different groups of "they" in verse 28. One group of "they" reject Christ and are the enemies of God, and another group of "they" are the election which accept Christ through hearing the Gospel and faith. Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. Based on Luke 21:24b-28, the times of the Gentiles comes to fullness at the Second Coming of Christ. This agrees with what Paul said in Romans 1:16 about the Gospel going “first” to the Jews.

Well said. Churches could be institutions that promote love, tolerance, forgiveness, and hope. They could "proselytize" by encouraging their members to be humble examples of imperfect people with an imperfect understanding, but who try to live their best lives with a heavy emphasis on the aforementioned virtues. Instead, I have the impression that many churches claim a disdainful infallibility. Any doubts or questions are due to YOU being inadequate in some way, and are responded to with bromides like "pray about it" or "just have faith." yes me too. i never made true friends in any church i have been to. there are many tares and lukewarm people out there, meddling into the true Ecclesia affairs. Without negating the fact there are true believers in churches, the majority are just copied of this world, with music and other programs and do not start me on the prosperity gospel, music industry gospel which is another form of prosperity gospel. I left churches a long time ago. It was gradual, but I never found people that cared about me, except a few true Christians. When I told our minister I would not be attending his church in future, he berated me and accused me of being "Buddhist." I corrected him, but he just got angrier. Before this he was hostile to me, and, at that time, I didn't know people were slandering me all over the church. I caught a mother, her mother, and the mother's son--who was a son of an elder--all gossiping about me, or slandering me, quite openly--as long, for the mother and the grandmother, that I wasn't there. These people are not of Christ, and, somewhat ignorantly, I assumed if I went to another church things would be different. They're all the same!!

I few years ago I was diagnosed with autism (I was a late diagnosis because I learned to hide my traits so well). Christian friends on social media who loved me before the diagnosis began isolating themselves from me after the diagnosis because I chose to try looking at autism in a more positive light and embrace it as part of who I am. They've also alienated me for using medication for depression and anxiety. One of my friends had a similar experience to mine... was diagnosed ASD later in life, was an evangelical, and had similar problems with people at his church. He ended up leaving the church and questioning the faith altogether. I don't blame God at all for how they act, but I've truly seen a dark side of people who claim to believe in the love and grace of Jesus Christ yet are quick to disown fellow believers for stupid reasons. They don't realize they are pushing people away. "The love of many will wax cold..."

My path to reason started when I asked leaders questions about how free will can work with an all powerful deity. To say that their answers left much to be desired is an understatement. It became clear to me that growth was impossible under their tutelage as, they didn't know much themselves. I was 13 or 14 at the time. Such people should not get authority, and yet ... From what I see this is true in most evangelical churches. Christianity has lost its intellectual roots going back to at least the Jesuits, and likely much further. Intelligence and expertise is seen as dangerous. An institution that rejects knowledge deserves to be replaced.

Then there was the Great Schism, in which the church in Constantinople and the church in Rome split. Both were descendents of the same original church. Later, there were splits between the Protestant churches and the church in Rome - all were descendents of the same original church. So difficult as this might be for some people to grasp, as a Lutheran or Methodist or Baptist, the history of the Church fathers from centuries ago doesn't belong to any one denomination, it is MY history, too. So the "Catholic" Church to which you refer can be more accurately described as the "Roman Catholic" church - a specific organization headquarted in Rome and ruled by the Pope, while technically the term Catholic can still be used by anyone, as in the creed adopted by the vast majority of mainline Protestant churches - "I believe in ... the Holy Catholic Church" - that refers not to a specific denomination, but to THE Church, meaning all believers. So you see, everyone who is Christian is already "united as Christians in the Catholic Church".

Yes, I grew up in Church, and I found that most of them are just pure fake Christians. They just want to go on a weekly basis to have their sins absolved, then they can go out and party and do whatever that they used to do ... But, come in Sunday and look the part of a good Christian. Mostly, they care about people noticing their fancy clothes, nice cars, expensive houses. And, they all talk about "how to live the good life" and talk about high paying jobs and don't care about so many people at church that are barely making ends meet.

Speaking as an ex-evangelical (now Humanist), you are doing just fine. I quit church 20+ years ago and still have all my true friends. "worldly" is just another word for EVERYONE ELSE. There are good people, there are bad people, regardless their religion or lack of it. Be a good person, treat others as you would like to be treated, you'll be ok.

The American expression of Christianity has adopted many of the characteristics of the secular society around it. In this particular case, a kind of hyper-individualism. Such people go to church to feel good about themselves. To feel like they are a good person because they identify as a Christian. Not to build a community together, and ultimately a better world. IMO that's what you're experiencing. It's heretical to scripture, but its not confronted because the church institution is more concerned with making money then following gospel. Another one of these adopted characteristics. Good luck finding a church that gets this. I have not.

there was a day when the old hymns were new. don't disregard songs just because you don't like them, and they certainly don't effect what a preacher preaches, or it shouldn't. the new songs should be vetted for sure, but not dismissed because they are not old. if you do, then young people will quit coming.

I sat in a committee meeting, probably in 2010. One person said how they liked the pastors (a married couple) picked all sorts of hymns out of the United Methodist hymnal. A prior senior pastor, who served the congregation for 20 years, basically had the Protestant Top 40. I said I liked the Top 40. Someone, who had far more gray hair, asked, "How old are you?" I was 48. I explained that my mother grew up in rural Kansas during the Depression and WWII and went to Baptist tent meetings every summer. So, I grew up listening to her singing old Baptist hymns.

The government never said we could not worship, and no Biblically informed believer ever stopped or could be stopped in worshiping. The loss of four hours in a building stopped nothing for Biblically informed believers. The church began in homes, and returned there ... in my church, we hooked up the phones and Internet and had our Bibles and hymnbooks at home and did everything the believers in Acts did, four times a week, totaling about nine hours a week. The rest of the waking hours of that 168 in the week, we went on and worshiped the Lord daily EVERYWHERE ... just like before. Today, the church building is open, but the sick, infirm, and traveling have MORE OPTIONS to be part of hearing the Word and prayer and singing than they ever did, coast to coast. Nothing was hindered except for those that thought the building was NECESSARY. It is not, for as God said all the way back in the Old Testament, He does not dwell in buildings made with hands. In the New Testament, we learned of Immanuel: GOD WITH US, and so, available to be worshiped, EVERYWHERE.

This is a protestant channel. Expect no congratulations here for firmly holding to your Catholic faith. Protestants hate the blessed sacrament which is "the source and summit of the Christian life." They hate the Blessed Virgin Mary and speak blasphemies against her when Our Lady herself said "all generations will call [her] blessed." They disobey Christ's command to take the Eucharist and they work to oppose Mary's prophecy.

Protestants hate the Holy Sacrament and they insult the most Blessed Virgin Mary. Expect no solidarity here from them. I'm about as "Protestant" as they come, and although I wish you would have found fulfillment in your evangelical church, I'm glad you are where you are - a church with a spirit of reverence for God. (all this in spite of what flintwestwood said about what I supposedly hate and blasphemy) Just as many Catholics see "mainstream" Catholicism as too watered down, the Evangelical Church you describe is what I'm dealing with. "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" put me in a much more worshipful spirit than a rock concert, or simply singing the same verse over and over dozens of times until I start wondering what's for lunch. Many are. A lot of churches are steeped in traditions of men and religious performance. You pretty much have to leave the church to get free of all that garbage and get back to the simplicity of a life of faith, and worshipping in spirit and in truth.

I'm pretty sure people don't follow the actual laws in the bible. Most twist the words to their benefit. Thu shall not kill is no respected, that's a law in the bible. Most people that say they are Christians are fake, I'd recommend you instead of "reading" the bible try to understand it. The message is clear serve the lord Jesus Christ, love your neighbor, be honest and fair, don't kill God's creation, honor your mother and father. We all fall short of being true Christians but at least we don't twist the message to our benefit and pray for every brother and sister so they would understand and follow the message.

So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century, just 75 years AFTER the council of Nicaea which began the Trinitarian docrtine, and then with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved these scriptures by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?
