In that fight Poirier was the better striker, easily going to a one sided decision in a fight where he was dominating. Then Mike Brown told Poirier to suddenly "go for a takedown." Max Holloway has cast iron wrestling defense, and nobody can take him down. And when you try to take down a guy who doesn't go down, it zaps your cardio completely. Attemping a takedown is how people gas out. And of course Poirier gassed out and almost lost the fight after his failed takedown attempts. I am not a coach, but even I knew not to tell Poirier to "go for a takedown."
